What A Beautiful Silver Gem!

-Rarity's point of view-

Spike had to stay at Twilight's castle today, but I really needed him to dig up some gems.  I sighed as I dragged the wagon with my levitation.  'I'll just use my shovel then.' I thought as I stopped to face the dirt that could ruin my beautiful coat.

"If you," I spoke to the dirt, "didn't hold the most magnificent gems, I would have just avoided you altogether."  I let go of the wagon and levitate my shovel in the air as I activate my gem detecting spell.

Suddenly, my horn starts to drag me on my hooves towards north away from the Everfree Forest.  I almost shouted, but I remembered that I encountered this when I was a filly.  Last time, I was dragged across the outskirts of Ponyville to find a huge rock, that I thought was horrible to think it would be my destiny until it cracked open due to Rainbow's Sonic Rainboom.

Instead of me being grumpy last time, I was happy and excited to see what kind of gem or gems that I will see.  It was then I saw a hole in the distance and I tried to stop with my hooves, but the ground happened to be wet and I slid towards it.

"I don't want to deal with the Diamond Dogs again!" I shouted as my horn moved me into the hole and I fell into it.  My scream echoed as I fell and closed my eyes.  At the last second, overgrown vines had caught me before I hit the ground.  My coat was wet, covered in vines and my hooves were muddy, but at least, my mane was alright.  I suddenly felt my horn pulling my towards the dark and I sighed, "I deserve a hot relaxing bath after this..."  The spell that I cast caused me to lunge forward and I flew in the air for a moment before breaking some sort of glass.  My spell ended and I illuminated the dark area around me.

The room itself was being taken over by nature, the walls were covered in wet moss, the floor had some growing mushrooms, and shattered glass was behind me, but that wasn't even what I have even seen in front of me.  On a pedestal was a large bright silver gem that had a swirling substance within it.

"A silver gem?" I asked myself.  I haven't seen anything like it before, I've seen different diamonds, emeralds, and rubies, but not a silver emerald.

"You are a...." I smile, "A rare find and you were worth the trouble."  I light shook my head and giggle a bit, "I'm talking to a gem...  Rarity all this work has let you talked to objects."

Wanting to get back home, I used my magic to engulf the gem so I can levitate it.  Though something happened, it didn't budge.  I tilted my head and wondered what the problem might be. It was then I clapped my muddy hooves together that cause a bit to go on my face...  I was not happy when I did that.  "Silly me, I must not be putting enough effort into it.  I mean this gem is about the size of me."

I tried again, but with more magical strength and nothing.  Wanting to see how much it weighted, I wiped my muddy hooves on the moss so I can touch it with my hoof.  It leaned back as if I pushed it really hard.  With my other hoof, I stopped the gem from falling and found out it was lighter than a feather.

"Either this gem is unaffected by magic or my levitation needs more lifting practicing." I sighed as I used my levitation on the vines.

With the vines that caught me, I made a large bag to store the gem in and whatever was left over I was able to use to get out of this dirty place.  Once I was at the surface, I rushed to get back to my boutique to have a bath.  I used my levitation to drag my wagon and shovel with me so I don't have to buy another set like last time.  Luckily it was early in the morning and there were barely any pony's to see my appearance.

Inside, Opalescence, my lovely cat, saw my appearance and hissed.  I clicked my tongue, "I know, Opal, my appearance is horrid and I'm going to have a nice bath."  I took off the vine saddle bag to reveal the silver gem to her and she wasn't impressed when looking upon its beauty.

With my mouth, I set it aside with the other gems and trot upstairs to run the hot water. While the tub was filling, I looked at myself on the mirror.  I..  I looked frazzled...  My coat had a green tint on my barrel, my hooves were covered in dry mud, my face had splotches of mud, but despite all of that mess, the bottom of my mane got slightly covered in green goop from the vines.  I smiled, "At least, I got to take home a wonderful gem."  I hopped into the bathtub once I turn off the water to clean my dirty body.

I stepped out of the bathroom with a robe on, "That was relaxing." I sighed in relief, "Now I would say that I got to get to work, but when I was thinking in the tub.  The silver gem came in mind."  I look to Opal who was looking at me with her head tilting to the left, "I need to speak to Twilight about this, she would know what this gem would be."  I galloped to the table and used my levitation on it once more.  Again, no such luck happened.  I levitated a different gem and it perfectly moved around with my command.  'Yes, I need to speak to her.' I thought as I moved the silver gem into my large saddle bag, but thought about Spike and dedicated a few gems for him.

I latched my saddle bag on my barrel and trot out of the house, locked the door behind me and headed towards Twilight's castle.  Celestia's sun was rising from behind Canterlot and I wished I would have brought my sunglasses and hat, but this was an important situation that I must attend to.  It didn't take me long to get to the front doors of the crystal castle, I knocked on them and waited patiently.

Twilight did tell me that I was welcomed to come in whenever I felt like it, but it was unladylike to do such an endeavor.  Spike answered the door and smiled when I arrived.

"Morning Rarity!" Spike greeted, "What's in the bag?"

"Good morning, Spike, I'm just carrying this for Twilight.  Is she in?" I asked.

"Yes, she is in the library.  Come in." He said as he bowed.

I smiled, "Such a gentlecolt." I levitated a gem to him and he smiled even more.

"Thanks, Rarity."

"My pleasure."

The two of us trot toward the Library section of the castle.  Spike couldn't help but look at me and I was flattered.  I knew he had a crush on me, but I was just playing along like I didn't know anything.  I know it's cruel, but I want him to get the courage to confess to me so I can rightfully decline.  So until then, I'll let it be.  When we entered to the Library, I saw my friend, Twilight reading yet another book.

"Twilight!" I cheered which got my friend to jump.  I galloped towards her and hugged her.

"Morning Rarity." Twilight giggled a bit, but saw the large bag "What's that?"

I glanced at Spike and looked at him, "Could you be a dear and get me a glass of water?  I'm famished.  There's a gem with your name on it."

He licked his lips and saluted, "Yes ma'am." He rushed to out of the Library to head towards the kitchen.

I turn my head to Twilight and spoke, "Twilight, my horn went wild this morning when I went to find gems and what I found is very unnatural to Equestria itself!"

She tilted her head like Opal, "What do you mean Rarity?"

I trot along a table and set my big saddle bag on it.  I pulled out the silver gem in front of her and she gasped.  "It's a silver gem that was underground in a cave of some kind."

Twilight stared at the gem and shook her head, "From what I've read in the past, there isn't any kind of gem that can be silver."

"That's not the worst of it, try to levitate it." I asked.

Twilight did that and her purple aura surrounded the gem.  She moved her head up so the gem could, but it didn't budge. "Huh?" She asked herself as she budged again.  Nothing, the gem did not move.  I saw her horn glow more and she tried to move it once more, again nothing.  Twilight looked at me with her confused face.

"As I thought," I said lifting the gem in my hooves like it was nothing, "This gem is unaffected by magic."

"How in the world could this exist?" She asked herself.

"I really don't know.  I just needed to run this by you before I did anything with it." I explained.

"Of course, I understand.  It's just odd, but I think I know who might answer our question."

"Who's that?" I wondered.

"Sunset Shimmer."

The both of us trot into the section where the portal to Canterlot High was.  I carried the silver gem in my bag and sat on the provided seat to then set my saddle bag on the table.  While Twilight grabbed her book from the pedestal that powers the portal, Spike returned with my water.  True to my word, I levitated another gem to him and he gladly accepts it.

Twilight returned with her book and brought a quill and inkwell.  Spike finished his gem and asked, "Why are you sending a letter to Sunset, Twilight?"

I guess the cat's out of the bag, I pulled the silver gem out of the bag and Spike gasped, "That's beautiful Rarity!  I've never seen that kind of gem before!"

"Yes, Twilight and I haven't seen this type of gem before either, it doesn't belong here and we're asking Sunset for help." I explained.

"I wonder what it tastes like." Spike licked his lips again.

"You're not having any nibble on my silver gem," He looked down a bit, but I smiled, "that's why I gave you other gems in return."  I think that cheered him up.

Twilight spoke, "It's done and now we wait."

Just when I was about to start up a conversation, the book instantly vibrated and Twilight looked at the message.  She gasped and pushed the gem towards her, "This is a type of metal that's called Gallium.  It's a metal that can melt in any kind of warm room temperature.  I'm surprised that it didn't melt in against your body Rarity." She looked at the book again as it vibrated and blushed a bit, "Oh...  It needs to melt upon, skin contact like the palm of Sunsets hand or if we shaved our fur.  Interesting."

"Is it dangerous?" I asked.

"Sunset said it's perfectly fine, just don't consume it and wash our hooves once were done with it." Twilight flipped the page, "Oh!  Gallium can be made into jewelry!"

Spike scoffed in disgust and started to leave, "Waste of perfect gems if you ask me."

"Well, a lot of mare's would love to have different jewelry." I explained as he left, "Have a nice time Spike!" I turned to Twilight, "What kind of Jewelry are we talking here?"

Twilight read Sunset's message carefully and spoke, "Just earrings to be honest.  Anything else that would go to the finger, hoof or neck would just melt."

I nodded, but frowned as well because that potential was thrown out the window, "How about dresses?" I asked.

"I really don't think so either Rarity, it's mostly just to melt other metals when in contact." Twilight explained.

"So overall, just earrings and a trophy for the house?"

She nodded once more and I hung my head, "Oh well...  So much for potential."

"If it's alright with you Rarity, I was hoping to use it to experiment." Twilight asked.

'At least, it will be used of science.' I thought as I smiled.  "I'm actually interested what the Gallium will look like in liquid form."

Twilight squeed in excitement and tried to trot away while levitating the gem, but failed.  She fell on her face where I giggled just a bit.  I grabbed the crystal and put it into my big saddle bag.

"Where to Princess?" I smirked.

Twilight got up and shyly smiled, "I forgot about the crystal wasn't affected by magic... hehe."

The both of us trot downstairs to Twilight's lab.  The purple mare, in question, grabbed a large beaker that would fit the crystal, used her wings to get a hold of it and put the silver gem in it.  She then grabbed a cup of water and used her magic to do something.

"I just heated this water to a luke warm and I'm going to pour it into the beaker.  Then you're going to watch science to its own little magic." She smiled as the cup of water was poured into the beaker.

True to her word, the crystal slowly started to melt into the beaker.  I watched in awe as the beautiful crystal turns into this silver liquid.  When the crystal was gone, the large beaker was filled with the silver liquid and the last of the water was on the top.

"I suppose the silver liquid can be molded into whatever shape?" I asked.

The scientific mare nodded to my question, "It's like clay, but without the mess."

I blinked once and saw Pinkie right in front of me to which I scream.  "PINKIE!!!" I gasped, "What on Luna's moon are you doing?!"

The pink mare giggled, "I made a break through with sugarcubes!!"

Twilight lowered her eyelids, "Sugarcubes?"

"Yes, I was wondering what I could do to make them more sugary and I thought of cupcakes!!" Pinkie pulled out a plate of them and continued, "These sugarcubes have been made from crushed cupcakes and were surrounded in regular sugar.  So their really good when used in tea or coffee, but don't use more than two otherwise you'll explode from sugar overdose."

"Pinkie, that is very unhealthy, let me just get this off of your hooves." I said levitating the plate of sugarcubes into the air.

"Wait! I just want one to try for myself!" She jumped, but one of the cubes fell off the plate and landed into the gallium.

The area around us got bright as the gallium started to move.  A very bright light glowed from at the top of the center to the whole gallium itself.  The ground started to shake when the breaker shattered.  Twilight, Pinkie and I ran towards a desk to hide.

"What is going on?!" I screamed.

"I don't-" Twilight couldn't finish because the gallium exploded and the silver liquid had splattered across the back wall.

The dust seemed to settle and when us three looked in each others eyes, there was a sound of somepony gasping for air.  We squirmed and I felt the hairs on my back standing up in fear.  I looked at the wall, where the mess had been, and it was gone.  I took a deep breath, looked around and what I saw, it made my jaw drop.  A body, so to speak, was lying on a the floor.  It had a form of some sort of monkey in a silver, liquid form.  Then the silver faded and it had pale skin, on its hands, and face.  It was wearing a white scuba suit and its chest was moving.

"Twilight...  The Gallium has transformed into some sort of..." I thought about what I was going to say then sighed, "I don't even know what this is." I gestured with my hoof.

Twilight and Pinkie, got closer to the creature.  Pinkie was sitting there, looking at her sugarcubes and hummed, "I didn't know that metal can react to sugar." She said as she took another bite of her creation.

Twilight's eyes narrowed, "It doesn't, nothing reacts to metal other than temperatures and a few acids."

I trotted carefully to my friends, "Doesn't this mean this thing here is some sort of scientific breakthrough or just an accident?"

She giggled, "Rarity, throughout the history of science, was mostly done by accident."

I rolled my eyes slightly, "Right.  What are we going to do with our guest here?"

Pinkie spoke up, "Have another sugarcube!" She dropped the whole plate of cubes onto the body and I heard a sizzling noise coming from the being.

SYSTEMS CONSUMPTION FULL....

BOOTING UP

"PINKIE PIE!!!" Twilight and I shouted at our friend.
