The previous day had been filled with plenty of fun. I was spending the weekend with other cadets in my school's AFJROTC corps. We were on a trip to a place known as the Lost Sea Cave, a pretty interesting cave system with an underground lake. Most of the other cadets came just to hang out with friends, but some, like myself, came because we enjoy trekking through the cave. I also love history, and the cave has plenty. As a plus, there's a quite relaxing little ride around the underground lake near the end of the journey.
Today, we'll be heading out and going back home. The night had flown by, and gave way to the morning a little too fast for my liking. Right from the get go, I could tell something was off. My eyes were open, but I couldn't see a thing but pitch black. It didn't take my brain long to catch up, at which point I started to panic. I had no idea where I was, and it scared the Hell out of me. I trashed about, screaming my head off as it would help me somehow. Took me a minute or two to figure out I had been brought into the light. When I finally stopped trashing and screaming, I opened my eyes to see everybody staring at me with their jaws on the floor.
"Um, guys, what's with the faces?" I asked.
None of them spoke up, so I asked again. Only then did I notice something wrong: my voice. I sounded like a little girl. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that wasn't the reason for their staring, however. I decided to look at the rest of my body. There had to be something wrong with my body. Was I mutated or something? Well, in a way, I suppose. Not how you'd expect mutation to go, however.
I looked down to see a small, light blue fur covered body with four light blue stubs sticking up slightly. I tried to rolled over, but had no success..
"Um, a little help here?" I asked, looking back at the others.
Not a soul moved an inch.
"Alright, guys, this is getting old real fast," I said, irritation growing, "Stop standing there like statues and help me up".
"What are you?" One of the cadets asked.
"I'm not entirely sure at the moment," I said, "I can only see so much of my body from this angle. If one of you could help me, maybe find a mirror, I could better answer that question".
"Forgetting what you are, where is the guy who was sleeping here last night?" Another cadet asked.
"It's going to sound crazy, but that's me," I said.
I started to spout out facts about myself to prove my statement. Every fact caused every set of eyes to grow a little larger until I finally decided to stop.
"Good enough for you?" I asked.
"That's... ok, that's just not possible," The first cadet said.
"I assure you, it is quite possible," I said, "Now, is somebody going to help me up or not? I'm still new to this body, I don't know how to work it yet".
Finally, one of the cadets, Alisha, decided to help me out. She lifted me up by my arms, or forelegs, and started turning me every which way, inspecting my every feature.
"You're like... a tiny horse, with wings," Alisha said.
"Not to mention those huge, disproportionate eyes," Another cadet said.
Many thoughts ran through my head at those words. Tiny horse, wings, blue body, big eyes...
"You're being serious, aren't you?" I asked.
"You look like something straight out of that pony show you love so much," The first cadet said.
Alright, that confirmed it. I'm a pegasus filly. How I got turned into a filly from Equestria, I have no idea. I thought at first it was a dream, but everything seemed too real for that to be the case. After Alisha set me down, I immediately flopped on my belly. Whether from the shock, or lack experience with my new body... perhaps even both, I could stand upright. Regardless, I decided to look behind me. Where I was expecting a cutie mark, I was met only with a blank, light blue flank. Great... younger than I'd have preferred.
"So, any idea on what happened?" The first cadet asked.
"Not a clue," I said, "But that doesn't matter at the moment. How can I leave the cave like this? I doubt any of you guys left room to carry me in your backpacks".
"Well, there's nobody but us and the tour guides here at the moment, so the parking lot is clear enough," Came a somewhat deep voice from behind me.
I turned and looked up to see the very familiar face of Lt. Col. Dove, our instructor.
"But, sir, what about everywhere else?" I asked.
"We'll have plenty of time to figure that out on the ride home," Col. said, "We can't leave you here".
Knowing Col., he'd figure something out before we got to the bus. But regardless, I still worried. After everything was packed up, we all headed out of the cave. I got a free ride in the arms of the most scarily energetic cadet, Britney. Sweet girl, just has too much energy. Oh well, at least I didn't have to try to walk out.
As soon as we got to the bus, Britney held me up to look in one of the mirrors. What I saw was indeed a little pegasus filly staring back at me. I have a light blue body, a pink mane and tail, magenta eyes, and two tone wings. I looked pretty cute, gotta admit. My new appearance actually reminded me of a pony that I, myself, had made sometime ago. Her name is Sky Orchid, and she was going to grow up as a special sky gardener. It takes a special touch to make plants grow in the sky, but my little filly had that touch. I wonder if that'd be possible in this world... probably not, but it wouldn't really hurt to try... that is, if the government doesn't keep me cooped up in a lab somewhere in the middle of nowhere after they inevitably find out about me being a creature of myth and legend. And on that, at least the corps. has agreed to keep this hush hush for as long as possible.
The bus ride home didn't start off too bad, the other cadets engaging in friendly conversation with me. You'd think they'd take forever to get over this, but I guess not. Soon, however, I felt a really strong urge to use the bathroom. The problem? It was another hour till the next bathroom. I did everything I could, but I was just a young filly and eventually lost. Even though everybody was understanding, and nobody teased me, I was left quite embarrassed for some time. Britney, another cadet known as Nick, and I moved to another empty space so we'd have a dry seat to sit on the rest of the way home.
We reached the next rest area thirty minutes later. Everybody got off, and I stayed on the bus. While waiting for everybody to get back, I wondered how such a thing as this was possible. Obviously, something had to have crossed over from Equestria for me to exist like this. Could it be Discord playing tricks? And if so, why'd he choose me? I'm not that important.. am I? I wondered if maybe there was a chance that Equestria and my world were somehow merging, but threw that thought away as soon as I'd thought of just how impossible that would be. After all, if Equestria and my world were merging, surely I wouldn't be the only one affected.
I decided to stop trying to figure this out for the time being, and start figuring out how my new body worked. I didn't want to be carried everywhere, and I'd love to fly. I know the pegasi of Equestria have too small a wingspan to get enough lift in our world, but I hoped that maybe, just maybe I wouldn't be grounded the rest of my life. Anyway, it didn't take too long to figure out how to communicate with my legs. Everybody was starting to get back on the bus by this point, but I ignored them as I learned how to stand up and manage my weight to where I could stay standing. It took a couple of tries, but I finally managed it. As soon as the bus started up again, I learned why one does not stand on the seat. Though even just slightly comfortable to sit on, a bus seat isn't at all fun to fly into to face first. As a result of this, I discovered something new about myself: pain is amplified. If I was to base myself on the pony I created, it would fit as her pain tolerance was quite low.
"Fight it," I repeated to myself four times before I finally gave up and started to cry like a foal. As Britney picked me up, everybody turned towards us. I couldn't help it, it really hurt. One more thing I say good about Britney is that she'd make a good mother. As if on instinct, I buried as much of my body against hers for comfort. Last thing I remember was running out of tears and drifting into a deep sleep.
