One Step up
Her soft cheek felt good against me as she braced for balance. I knew she wasn’t as bad off as she acted. I think we both needed each other more than we admitted. She was blind, and the guilt that maybe? I could have stopped this left me in pain.
Even after all this time, I was still amazed watching her bravery. It was something I knew I couldn’t have in her situation. Five months and still no improvement. Somehow, I held onto the false hope that she would regain her sight. Somehow, it felt like there must be some way I can fix this; even though I knew all I could do was be there for her. This was how our relationship had and would be going forward since she went blind. It was not my fault, but I still felt guilt.
