Before the Beginning
Tension where beginning to boil over as Sombre crossed the border and started to enclose his forces around Canterlot. All of Celestia's attempts at a peaceful agreement had been futile and the only choice she had left, was war. The war lasted 5 years, it ended when Sombre killed Celestia after ambushing her in her castle, her guards had turned on her and helped him do it. Immediately after he took the throne as king of Equestria and ruled for 2,000 years. He was cruel and ruthless to his subjects nothing they did ever pleased him and eventually they became sick of it, the ponies rose against him and although there was great loss of life, they still managed to remove him from power forever.
The ponies didn't know what to do, they had no ruler and they panicked, some tried to bring back one of the original princesses, Luna, who was trapped in the moon for 3,000 years now, others wanted a new princess, and there were others who wanted to get rid of the entire system and have a government based on what the ponies wanted. This difference split the ponies, so far as to literally put a boarder down the middle of Equestria. Eventually violence broke out starting in Hoofington and spreading over the rest of the land leading to an all out war. The war ended when the leader of the ponies who wanted an Ponocracy (Pony Democracy), Comic Kazi, fled when he narrowly escaped assassination. A new princess was put into power, the ponies who wanted Luna back accepted this but still kept trying to bring her back from the moon.
The new princess, Crossandra Tropic Flame, forced the losers of the war to become her servants in the castle, while others escaped. She didn't do anything to stop the escapees because she was focused of fixing all the damages to the land that where made. years after the war ended the escapees where found, Princess Crossandra forbade the veterans from ever leaving the island with the threat of their lives.
