"I must hurry up if I want to get the last muffin at Sugarcube Corner today!" Derpy said to herself as she started to fly a little faster. She ran into a few ponies along the way, tripping at times. She eagerly trotted into the doors of Sugarcube Corner, only to see that there was a line. Derpy's ear drooped like her Derpy Eye on the right side of her face, then she took a deep gulp of fear.
Thoughts started to circle her mind. "What if somepony takes my muffin? Oh Derpy that probably won't happen.. Everypony knows that you love muffins the most! They will save it for you...right?!?" She watched as Octavia walked up to the counter, hoping her muffin would stay.
" Ever since I saw Derpy yesterday, I have been craving the Triple Chocolate Pumpkin Muffins. But last night, I especially wanted them as my typical midnight snack." As Octavia said those words, she seemed suddenly displeased, as if somepony had caused it.
Mrs. Cake looked intrigued, as she always enjoys listening to ponies gossip. She wanted to say "tell me more", but that seemed to rude and obvious. So she said, "What's wrong, Octavia? What makes midnight snacking so typical?"
"Well, living with Vinyl is harder than you may think. She wakes up at 11:30 PM every night to practice her DJ skills. And apparently 100 is the lowest volume setting on that thing. I want to tell her to cut it out so I can sleep, but I don't want to hurt her feelings, or worse, our friendship. So after a half an hour of burying my head under my pillow trying to sleep, I go into the kitchen to get a snack to help me relax. Last night, I really wanted a muffin, but to my surprise, Vinyl had ate them all even when I put a "DO NOT EAT" sign on it addressed to her. She just ripped it off, crumpled it, and threw it away, while proceeding to eat my muffins! She can be really inconsiderate at times. sigh... I never get sleep... Do you happen to have any more muffins?"
"Why yes! One more, in fact! Derpy usually gets it, but I haven't seen her around lately. Maybe she got tired of muffins. Here you go!" Mrs. Cake cheerfully said as she placed the muffin in a bag.
Derpy wanted to shout "I'M RIGHT HERE! THAT'S MAH MUFFIN!" But she would NEVER do that to a friend! Especially if it could cause more problems than it solves. Derpy tried to keep in her sadness, but as it built, it was all too much. Derpy started to cry, and interrupted Mrs. Cake before she could ask Octavia if she wanted anything else. "H- How could you do this to a friend!" Derpy said before running out of Sugarcube Corner. Mrs. Cake then proceeded to ask, " Anything else, Octavia?"
"Hmm... Oh yes! Vinyl did say she wanted a Mega Melty Chocolate Chunk Cookie."
Mrs. Cake put the cookie in the bag with the muffin, and Octavia handed her bits, and put the treats in her saddlebag as she walked out.
Doctor Whooves was working hard on a new time machine, wrench in hoof, tweaking his design when needed. The door to his steampunk lab abruptly opened, and he didn't even have to turn around before he said, "How's your day been, my little muffin?" Derpy and Doctor Whooves had always been especially smitten together. She was the only pony he trusted. She was the only other pony allowed in his lab. Sometimes, if she promises not to derp up his projects and gadgets.
A tear-filled Derpy walked into the lab. "Don't even MENTION muffins anymore! And don't even THINK* about Octavia!" That's when he dropped his wrench and trotted over to his upset mare. He wrapped his hoof around her shoulder, and let her lean on him once they sat. "What's going on, Derpy?" "Well, I was going to Sugarcube Corner this afternoon to get their last muffin of the day, and Octavia was in front of me. She stole MY muffin! She even said she wanted it because of ME. And if that wasn't enough, :sniffle: Mrs. Cake said that she hadn't seen me that day when I was RIGHT THERE. And I went this morning for some muffins! "
Derpy didn't want to be rude, but she thought Mrs. Cake had the memory of a parasprite. And that's not a lot.
By this time, tears were rolling down her face, and onto Doctor's green tie.
"Oh Derpy... I'm so sorry... did she say if she was eating it right away?"
":sniffle: Actually, Yes! She was going to save it for a midnight snack! Why?"
"We can get you that muffin. Princess Twilight is great at friendship problems and organizing, I can ask her to help us!"
"Thanks, Doc!"
