Two Bros to Two Other Bros.

Ugh, where am I?

I opened my eyes and looked at my surroundings. I was in a dark room, one that looked like a jail cell.

Hold on.

I looked closer at the door, and found that it was indeed one from a jail.

Damn it!

Looking around some more, I saw my brother on the floor still asleep.

Hold on, how the hell did I get here?

"Come on, Aaron, we're going to be late!" I said as I ran to a large building.

"Yeah yeah, I know. It's not my fault that I was woken up 10 minutes before we had to leave."

I gave a sheepish smile over my shoulder. "Heh, sorry about that."

"Whatever Evan. At least we got our costumes on in time."

That's true. We both dressed up as the Mario Bros. Because I was the younger and taller brother, I was Luigi. Aaron was Mario. He was shorter, despite being the elder, and more built than me. Not in fat, but muscle. We both decided to ditch the moustaches, seeing as they would get too itchy.

We ran for a bit more until we got inside. I stopped and Aaron caught up to me quickly. We both looked around and saw so. Many. Costumes. It was AWESOME! I turned to face my brother and asked him where he wanted to go first, seeing as how I practically dragged him here.

"Hmm, let's go look at some of the merch." I nodded to his suggestion and walked behind him, like they do in Mario and Luigi - Dream Team Bros. I got the idea to dress up as the two from that game. I convinced Aaron to do it because I told him we would get to wear our favourite colours as well. His was red, mine was green funnily enough.

We walked around for a bit, being complimented on our costumes, until I pointed out a stall to Aaron. He looked to where I was pointing and walked over to it, with me following behind.

As Aaron talked to the owner, I looked over what was on offer. I was always the more socially awkward one, so we both had an unsaid agreement that Aaron would most of the talking. Anyway, I was looking at some of the weapons, and saw two hammers. More specifically, hammers from M&L - Dream Team.

"Aaron, I think I just hit the jackpot."

He turned to me with a puzzled look. "What do you mean?"

"Look at those hammers. They look like they're straight from the game." I said while pointing them out. The owner gave a small laugh.

"Ah, those old things. I had them made a long time ago." He looked at them them and then back to us. "How about I let you two take the test?"

"Test?" We both ask simultaneously.

"Pick them up and tell me how you feel."

We both looked at each other and shrugged. Moving at the same time, we picked up the hammers. It felt, surprisingly normal. Like it was part of me. I could tell from the look on my brothers face that he felt the same.

I spoke first, "It feels like a part of me."

"Same." Aaron said.

"Good," The man said, "How about I sell those to you, $20 each?"

"$15." Aaron haggled.

"$20."

"$17?"

"Hmm, sure. I can go with $17 each. That'll be $34 all up."

We both handed over the money for our hammers and prepared to leave.

"Oh, and one more thing." The man said before we got out of hearing distance. "Take these as well. They make up the complete set."

He brought out some overalls that looked exactly from the game along with two pairs of shoes.

"May these Star Boots serve you well in your battles. May those Star Hammers pummel your enemies with ease. Lastly, may these Star Wears protect you from harm and lend you strength."

Aaron and I looked at each other. "Uhh, thanks?" My brother said.

The man nodded, "Now, go."

We both turned to leave but found ourselves falling through the floor. We held onto each other like we would die if we let go before our vision went dark.

That's right. It happened after we bought that gear. Actually, where is our gear.

I noticed we still had our overalls on with our boots, but I couldn't find our hammers.

"Hello yellow!" A voice sounded out.

Hang on, that voice...

"Starlow?" I asked.

"Luigi? Where are you?" Starlow responded.

"I'm in a cell, are you in my brother's overalls or outside somewhere?"

"I'm outside. I've been waiting ever since you were brought here."

"Can you tell me what happened?"

"Sure. We landed in a room on a table that was covered in food. When I looked around, I saw these horse-like creatures, except they were too small to be horses. Actually, the white one could've been a horse."

"They're ponies. Did the white one have wings and a horn with a flowing pastel mane?"

"Yeah, how did you know?"

Shit! What do Is say? I can't let her know about MLP.

"Lucky guess?"

"Anyway, the guards came rushing in after she called for them. You were both unconscious at this point and they dragged you both here. I slipped away before they could see me. They took away your hammers, but you should be able to get them back easily enough."

"How will we get them back?"

"Well, first of all, I'm going to come in there, so wake up Mario."

"Got it."

I moved over to my brother and shook him. After a bit of shaking, he started to stir.

"Ugh, Evan, what happened?"

"Would you believe me if I said we're in Equestria and have seeming turned into Mario and Luigi?"

"Yeeeaaah, no."

"Thought not. Only one way to prove it. Open your eyes."

"Fine." Aaron grumbled. He opened his eyes and looked at me. His first expression was one of 'Ha! I told you so!' but it quickly turned into shock.

"Umm, Aaron? Y'alright?"

"Huh? Oh yeah, just gimme a sec."

He proceeded to stand up and face the wall...

...Before smashing his head against it multiple times.

"Woah! Dude, stop! They're going to know we're awake!"

Aaron stopped hitting his head. "Who's 'they'?"

"The guards."

His mouth made an 'o' before quickly becoming normal again.

"Listen, Starlow and I-"

"Starlow?" Aaron cut off.

"Yeah, you know that little yellow sprite that travels with Mario in the games, right?"

"Oh yeah! Carry on."

"Starlow and I have got a plan to get us out. I think it involves hammers and smashing."

"Why would you say that?"

"Just I hunch." I said while shrugging.

"Starlow! We're ready!" I called out.

"Hello yellow!" Her voice called out before she appeared in front of us in a flash of light.

"Hey Starlow! What do we do?"

"Well, now I'm going to give you access to the Star Menu so you can equip your items. After that I think I'll let you take over."

Okay, so that just happened.

"Cool, now you're all set. Just imagine yourself in a void of stars and that will pause the world around you and let you manage your items. Let's start with your boots and hammers."

We both went into the Menu after a couple of minutes trying and looked over what we had.

"Bro, we have Star gear! That's one of the best!" I said excitedly.

"Then let's equip it."

We put the overalls on over the ones we were wearing and saw our old ones return to what looked like storage. We moved on to Boots and took off our current ones before putting the Star Boots on. We lastly went to Hammers. All we had to do was pick it up.

Exiting the Star Menu, we found Starlow waiting for us.

"Good! Now, to summon your hammers, all you have to do is imagine it lying in your hand." We both nodded before she continued. "Now then, let's leave this musty cell!" With that, she vanished into thin air.

"Ok, Aaron." He turned to me. "If anyone asks, our names are Mario and Luigi. Not Aaron and Evan."

"Sure."

"Good. Let's get outta here!"

We both strode towards the door. Because of me always daydreaming, I can imagine things really well, so it came as no surprise that I was able to get my hammer out first. I let my body do what came naturally, and swung at the door. I caved in slightly, but held.

I hit it one more time and it caved in even more. I saw that Aaron had managed to get his hammer and joined me. We both drew back and hit the door at the same time. It flew off it's hinges and hit the wall opposite to us. I peered out the door and checked for any guards. Thankfully, there were none near us, so I signalled to Aaron that the area was vacant.

We both looked around for an exit, and saw another door. We walked over to it and tested to see if it was unlocked. Luckily, it was. We opened it and saw a large staircase. Because there was only room for us to walk in a line, I let Aaron go first.

"Aww, you're ready to hide behind your brother when going up stairs. How sweet. Shows how much you care."

"No, this is how we would normally travel in the games. So deal with it."

He huffed at me before continuing.

After a bit of walking, we reached the next door and found it was locked. We both pulled out our hammers and used them to get past the door. Once again, it went flying off it's hinges, but this time, guards were in the area.

"Oh shit." I said to myself.

"The prisoners are escaping! Get them!"

"RUN!" Aaron yelled at me before we ran in a random direction. I overheard the guards say something else.

"They're going after the Princess! Catch them!"

I told Aaron to run faster, which he did. I looked behind us and saw a couple of Pegasi preparing to divebomb us.

"MARIO! JUMP!" I quickly yelled. We both wasted no time in jumping a full 5 foot into the air. What scared me was I don't think that was the highest we could jump.

This continued until we saw a large door ahead of us. We both put on a burst of speed, barged through the door with a loud bang, turned around, closed the doors and I pulled a plank of wood from out of nowhere to jam the door. Just as the wood was set in place, someone tried to open the door, but to no avail. We both gave a sigh of relief before turning to investigate the room.

What we found shocked us. Well, more Aaron than me. In front of us were 8 ponies. Thanks to my Brony knowledge, I knew who they were.

Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Luna and Celestia.

I leaned over to my brother's ear and whispered something.

"These are the Mane 6 and the two Princesses. They'll tell you their names later. For now beware Rainbow Dash."

"Why?"

Suddenly, a rainbow blur slammed into Aaron, but he was able to recover and land on his feet. I sighed into my hand.

"That's why." I said, loud enough for him to hear, but the others in the room would've had to be listening very carefully to hear.

"Stay away from the Princesses you... you... freaks!" Rainbow yelled from across the room. I didn't notice her move back there.

"Oooh, I'm so insulted!" Aaron said in fake hurt. He then changed his expression to that of a serious one. "Although we don't want to hurt the Princesses, I guess we're going to have to take you out for your previous stunt."

"Pfft! Yeah right, you wouldn't be able to land a single hit on me!" Rainbow said boastfully. I like Rainbow Dash and all, but she could really work on her attitude.

"Looks like we'll have to find out." Aaron said before getting into a battle stance. I did the same.

Out of nowhere, a shield went up around the three of us, cutting off any help to Rainbow Dash.

"Wow, never knew that would happen." I said out loud.

"Enough talking, start fighting!" Rainbow exclaimed.

I saw command blocks appear over Aaron's head, he looked up at them and then to me. I guess he knew that he should ask me for help.

"Go for a jump attack." I said in a low voice that only he could hear. He nodded before choosing it. He ran up to Rainbow who smirked at him. She tried to move her wings, but found she couldn't move a single part of her body. Her smirk changed to a look of horror and shock. She looked back at Aaron in time to see him make contact with her head.

Aaron used her head as a diving board to jump back up again. He did a backflip and slammed down on Rainbow's head, effectively dazing her. Aaron ran back to his starting point and I saw that command blocks had appeared over my head. I picked Jump and did the same thing to her and she fell out the sky. Because of her dizziness, her turn was skipped.

I told Aaron to pick hammer, and he did so. He moved in front of Rainbow and leaned back. Just before he fell over, he slammed the hammer down on Rainbow's head. This dealt significant damage and I could tell that she was nearly down. I did the same thing, picking Hammer and attacking her. The only difference was that my attack knocked her out of her daze.

She flew back up into the air and prepared to divebomb us.

"We need to time our jumps so we land on her when she passes under us." I told Aaron who just nodded in response.

Soon enough, Rainbow tried to divebomb Aaron, who simply jumped on top of her as she passed underneath. She looped around and attempted to catch me unaware from behind.

Nope.

I jumped and landed on her as well, dealing even more damage.

Rainbow flew back to where she started before collapsing on the ground.

The forcefield around us went down and the two of us were transported to a strange place. There were two flag poles with our letter on the flag. The fight against Rainbow Dash gave us enough EXP to level up.

"What bonus should I get?" Aaron asked me.

"Well seeing as how you don't have as much health, you should get that because you already have enough POW, DEF and SPD."

He nodded and selected that. I turned back to mine and chose bonus POW.

After we finished, with a pose to match, we found ourselves in the same room as before. The Mane 6 that were conscious looked afraid, Luna looked angry and Celestia had a calm exterior. Since no one was talking, I decided to get the ball rolling.

"So, mind telling us why we were locked up?"
