My name is Night. My sister’s name is Shadow. I guess that isn’t important, though. Nothing about us is really that prominent or important. We were the result of the banishment of our mother. I bet that we got each got half of her personality. Our mother was the Pony of Shadows. We never learned her true name though. Sometimes, I wish we could’ve met her. I bet she would be nice, and do mother stuff. I’m not exactly sure what that would be, but I heard that mothers are nice.

I live in a crumbling castle in the middle of a forest. Sometimes I wonder if the forest ever ends, and sometimes I imagine exploring it. I know that exploring is meant for others. I wonder if I’m ever going to leave this castle. Probably not.

Sometimes others come to our castle. Their brightly colored, and they almost always have pictures on their flanks. I think the pictures are called ‘Cootie Marks’, maybe ‘Fruity Maks’. The first time I saw another thing besides spiders and my sister, I started screaming. The pony started leaking water out of his eyes. I think he leaked down under also. Oops.

I sometimes think that life would be different if I was more brightly colored, then I would be able to leave the castle. I once tried to, but the brightness of everything gave me a headache. I went back home, and I didn’t try leaving again.

Once, there was a big pony that visited my home. Me and Shadow were scared out of our wits, though something about her seemed familiar. She was darkly colored, like us too! Maybe that’s why she seemed so angry and sad. Maybe because she got headaches whenever she tried to go the bright ponies, during the bright time. Later, some ponies came and zapped her with an impossibly bright blast of colors. I got cranky for the next couple of days because of my headache that I got from it.

Lately, a lot more ponies have been coming to the castle. It is really strange, too. They’re always bringing big buckets full of water, and for some reason they always scrub the water on the sides of the walls. It doesn’t really seem to do anything productive, except for make the walls lighter colored. I don’t really get the point of it. So strange!

I wonder what it’d be like to talk to them. I once tried to talk to a couple of ponies. They both seemed really scared, and they didn’t seem like they heard me. They left after I tried to talk to them.

Once, before the darker pony, another big pony came to the castle. She seemed really similar to the dark pony, just she was really hard to look at. She practically radiated everything that gave me headaches. Her mane was the worst. It was so shiny and bright. She started leaking really soon when she came. She didn’t start leaking underneath, like the other pony, though.

I wonder how we got named. One day, I just woke up with my sister. We somehow knew our names and who we were. I’m not sure if it’s normal or not. I wish I could ask someone else. I just want to be able to interact with another pony besides my sister. That would be so cool!

One day, I bet something big is going to happen, and it’s going to include me. That’s probably going to be in a long time though. Oh well. I might as well wait for the next time a pony shows up. This time I’m going to try to talk to them again. Wouldn’t it be amazing if it worked this time? I wonder what the pony would do. Well, only one way to figure it out! I can’t wait for the next time a pony comes.

Luna took a deep breath. What happened if her theory was true? There had been an odd presence in the old castle when Luna had last visited.

"It'll be okay, Lulu. I'm sure we won't find anything concerning," Celestia said with a gentle smile, "It's not like the Pony of Shadows is true! A pony once made that up, just to scare his foals. Needless to say, the story spread,"

Luna smiled back to her loving sister, "It was a silly idea, wasn't it?"

"It wasn't silly, just unlikely. I mean, what are the odds of your banishment creating beings of pure darkness?"

"I guess so. Well, better get this over with, Celly!" Luna giggled, "I have some very pressing matters to attend to!"

"As do I," With the words, the two beloved sisters of Equestria stepped into their old home.

A couple minutes later, a scream along with several profanities could be heard echoing throughout several cities.
