Inside a building in Ponyville there was a big party where all pegasi that went to the Wonderbolt Academy 10 years ago were reunited to celebrate them and to see what happened to their friends in all that time. In one corner ex-students Lightning Dust, Derpy Hooves and Bulk Biceps were talking about their experiences. The turquoise pony was wearing a black dress with blue shoes, the gray pony was wearing a green sweater with green shoes and the white pony was wearing a tuxedo with a black bow tie.
“Did you remember that flight proof when we had to land perfectly?” asked Lightning Dust.
“YEAH!” Bulk Biceps shouted.
“All can I think of are the spins and the pirouettes of all the class,” said Derpy.
“Sure, but I can say that you were very ‘dizzy’ afterwards” said Lightning Dust and everypony laughed.
Near them was Rainbow Dash wearing a shiny blue-purple dress with golden shoes and a cup of cider in her hoof, she looked bored because the party was not was she expected until she saw the previous mentioned group and decided to approach them but she was worried. What things her friends would think of her after all these years? Will they be amused and happy to see her or angry and will rejected her? There was only one way to know it: joining them in the conversation.
“Hi guys,” Rainbow Dash said nervously.
“Hi Rainbow Dash,” Derpy answered.
“Listen, I feel a rather lonely tonight and I was wondering: Don’t mind if I join you?”
“No problem.”
“So, what are you talking about?”
“I was asking to Bulk Biceps if he knows who the most beautiful mare in the academy was,” said Lightning Dust.
“Who?”
“Your sister!”
“But to your bad luck, she wasn’t blind!” Everypony laughed.
“No, no, no,” interrupted Rainbow Dash. “The one who was good was your mother Derpy to the point we mocked you about her. Ha ha ha!” Derpy put a worried, sad face while Rainbow Dash was talking to and hugging her. “Do you remember when we said you were adopted because she was way cooler than you? Ha ha ha!” she relaxed for a moment. “By the way how she’s been?”
“She died last week,” said Derpy.
The silence was present in the group for the first time. Lightning Dust hugged her while Rainbow Dash realized what she said.
“Sorry, I didn’t know.”
“You heartless.”
“Forgive her,” Lightning Dust said. “She was always imprudent.”
“Put it on the newspaper so anypony can know it!” Derpy broke out.
“I said I’m sorry,” said Rainbow Dash. “I really didn’t know.”
“Because of that I’m going to leave you a surprise in your mail next time.”
“Girls, talking about the newspaper,” Bulk Biceps said, trying to calm down the situation. “I read that you are going to be operated.”
“Yes,” Derpy nodded.
“Seriously?” asked Lightning Dust happily.
“I’m excited but nervous too.”
“Don’t worry.”
“He’s right, don’t worry,” said Rainbow Dash. “My grandma also had astigmatism but with anesthesia and a good laser surgery she ended up pretty well.”
“But I’m going to have a knee surgery,” Derpy said pissed off.
The silence once more made itself known as it permeated through the group.
“Yeah... the knee... I was joking, you know? In fact, I’ve always thought that rolled eye gives you a sex appeal because you look cool,” she directed to Lightning Dust. “Like you Lightning Dust, you are in good form. You look so thin and strong, those muscles are very marked, sorry that you get expelled from the academy because of me but I had to do the right thing. How was your stay at the madhouse?”
Lightning Dust remained quiet for a moment, glaring at her. She knew that Rainbow Dash had inform Spitfire about her behavior in the Academy and as a result she had been expelled from it, spending the next three years in a penitentiary.
“...It was a psychiatric rehabilitation clinic. And it was fine.”
“No remorse, right?”
The turquoise pony put an unamused face.
“But seriously: you look fine. So what’s your secret? Exercise, liposuction?”
“Cancer.”
Everyone remained quiet as once more the silence had made itself known. “Colon cancer,” she continued. “I’m skinny because of the chemotherapy. They removed me a large part of the intestinal tract, now I poop more than what I can eat and all these muscle marks are from my bones,” she pointed to her front legs. “I don’t like being thin. At least I survived.”
“Well, taking advantage that Dusty is here with us I have a special announcement,” said Derpy taking off her sweater, revealing an elegant red dress and then pointing to her tummy. “Ta-dah!”
“Are you pregnant?” Bulk Biceps asked.
“Yes! It’s a healthy filly. Oh, I feel a little kick. Come on, touch it.”
Lightning Dust and Bulk Biceps put their hooves on Derpy’s tummy.
“I’m so proud of you.”
“Thanks Dusty. Even my older daughter is happy. Right, dear?!” she shouted to her daughter, who was in the opposite corner. “Tell them you are happy because you will have a sister!”
“Shut up mom. I’m busy trying to get out of here!” Amethyst Star answered to her mom.
“Forgive her, she didn’t want to come.”
“So, what’s her name going to be?” Bulk Biceps asked.
“I’m going to call her Dinky.”
“Let’s give a cheer for the future mother!” Rainbow Dash said but she retracted quickly. “But what am I thinking? You can’t drink because you’re pregnant. I have an idea: I will bring you a muffin so we can cheer together. You like muffins, don’t you?”
“Muffin?”
But Derpy wasn’t happy or excited. On the contrary, she looked scared, worry and anxious to the point of having a fainting. Dust and Bulk tried to calm her down while Dash had no idea of what’s been going on.
“Put yourself together Derpy,” said Bulk Biceps. “We’re here with you. Be patient.”
“Patient, patient?! I have been patient for 5 months. Somepony give me a muffin, a cupcake or something!”
“No!” Both exclaimed at unison.
“But now what I say?”
“Shut up Dash, it’s not funny,” Bulk Biceps answered.
“I didn’t mean to be funny. I just wanted to give a cheer.”
“That’s the worst part,” Lighting Dust continued. “You said it seriously when you know Derpy is coming through her sugar problem!”
“I didn’t know that.”
“That’s even worse!”
“The Doctor says that, to prevent my little baby to have diabetes, I have to stop eating anything with sugar and that includes my precious muffins. ‘One at a time’, he says. ONE AT A TIME?!” she suddenly shouted to her tummy. “Because of you I’ve had the worst days of my life! Somepony give me a muffin!”
“No!” Everypony said it at unison.
“What’s the matter with you?” asked Bulk Biceps madly to Rainbow Dash. “You’re still going to make fun of us? You like that? You like that I’m getting bald?”
Rainbow Dash decided to remain quiet for the rest of the party so she could avoid hurting somepony. Everypony did the same indirectly and then Thunderlane, wearing a gray suit with a blue tie, appeared with a tray with food.
“Hello everypony,” he said. “How are you?”
Everypony were quiet with sad, annoyed faces.
“What’s going on? Why the long faces? This is supposed to be a day of joy, of happiness and all of you look spectacu... Why are you so bald Bulk?”
“They say it’s the marriage, don’t they?”
Suddenly everypony, except Rainbow Dash who was not amused, laughed and Thunderlane then decided to talk to her.
“Rainbow Dash, you look gorgeous in that dress.”
She nodded with her head.
“How are you?”
She nodded again.
“But come on, tell me something. Are you married?”
Considering what had been happening, Rainbow Dash didn’t know what to say, she choked her teeth and looked nervous.
“What’s the matter? Why don’t you answer me?”
Unfortunately for her Thunderlane misunderstood everything and let the tray on a nearby table.
“Are you making fun of me?”
Rainbow Dash put a confused face.
“Yeah, my brother is mute, so?!”
“Rumble is mute?!” Lightning Dust asked shocked. “What happened to him?”
“My brother had an accident where he burned his tongue and the doctors had to cut it,” suddenly he changed mood, from sad to angry. “And since then everypony who laugh at him will pay it with my anger, like you Rainbow Dash. He may be mute but he’s not a dumbass, he learnt sign language 2 years ago. And do you know what he says to insensitive ponies like you?!” He hit his right elbow with his left hoof repeatedly at the same time he said it. “This one, this one, this one, this one!”
Bulk Biceps calmed Thunderlane down while everypony decided to stop Rainbow Dash.
“Are you happy now?” Lightning Dust asked. “Have you finished making fun of the ponies whose lives are maybe not as great as yours miss perfect dress and perfect manestyle?”
“Sorry,” Rainbow Dash answered annoyed. “I didn’t think–”
“That’s your problem,” Derpy interrupted her. “You simply didn’t think.”
“Get out of here and return to your luxurious life with private insurance, good utilities and perfect position as a personal friend of the Princess,” said Bulk Biceps.
“Knock it off!”
Rainbow Dash screamed to the point that all the party, even the music, stopped. And for good reasons: her so called ‘friends’ have been annoyed at her all the night because of her now promising life, she has had have enough of it and now she had to explain to everypony her version of the story.
“Is that so? You’re judging me because of how I dress? You think because I’m the Element of Loyalty, a personal friend of the Princess of Friendship and the only real wonderbolt here I have a perfect life? Let me tell you something: my life isn’t perfect,” Rainbow Dash started to explain. “My friend Pinkie Pie no longer hangs out with me since she started dating Cheese Sandwich, my other friend Fluttershy doesn’t have time for me anymore because she married the Lord of Chaos, I’m poor because my sister Scootaloo–”
“Scootaloo isn’t your sister,” Thunderlane interrupted her.
“I don’t care; she begged me to be her sister and I accepted!” she made a deep breathing before continue. “As I was saying, I’m poor because my sister Scootaloo had an accident and I spent all my money to save her, she’s better now if you want to know, my friend Spike... became Barbara, I lost my house because I bet to the changelicons in Transformares...”
“What an idiot!” Lightning Dust though.
“...and now I have to pay rent to Applejack if I want to remain there and finally I didn’t even want to come here in the first place because I feared that all of you will judge me, but nooooooo! Rarity had to insist in designing me this very girly dress and make me this corny manestyle and Twilight had to force me to come here because she said that I need to ‘reestablish my old friendships’ like she did. I hate my life; I am not different than you. Now if you excuse me” Rainbow Dash drank all her cup before leaving it on the table. “I have to go.”
Rainbow Dash was about to leave when Derpy held her hoof and stopped her.
“Can you forgive us? Can you stay with us this night?” she asked sad and wanting forgiveness from her.
“Sometimes we feel that we are the center of the world and that our problems are more important than those of others,” Thunderlane said.
“We love you friend,” Lightning Dust said.
Rainbow decided to stay with all of them for the rest of the night.
“Hey,” Bulk Biceps said. “Do you remember the war cry that we had in the academy?”
Everypony smiled and suddenly all of them put their right hoof in the center forming a circle. Then everypony shouted, except Derpy, and raised their hoofs into the air at the same time:
“Don’t take it so serious, because we’re so mysterious!”
After that night everypony promised to stay in contact but nopony accomplished it. It was the last time they saw each other.
• Lightning Dust survived the cancer but she exit the reunion so excited that she crossed the road without looking to the sides and a chariot run over her, killing her instantly.
• Bulk Biceps got divorced and his mane grew back. Now he’s brunet and acts in theater plays.
• After the war cry Derpy realized that she was in the wrong reunion and that she never went to the Wonderbolt Academy.
• Thunderlane learnt sign language to communicate with his brother, only to discover that he was a foul-mouthed.
• And Rainbow Dash... Rainbow Dash remained being awesome!
Author's Note
-There was originally going to be a sixth character, it was split between Blossomforth and the sisters Flitter and Cloudchaser. Due to time constrains it was dropped and its problems (dead relative, knee surgery) were transferred to Derpy.
-Given that Lightning Dust is an antagonist I had to modify her a little so she could socialize with the others.
-This is my first story.
