The sound of the wind blowing through the trees made the gray pegasus filly anxious, the stories about the monsters in the forest were greatly exaggerated and she'd taken this path on a daily basis for weeks. But now it was darker then usual and it seemed like eyes were observing her from the bushes. Giving out a whimpering sound, she increased her pace. Even though she was a pegasi, she wasn't able to fly, never been but she was used to being bound to the ground. As she saw foot of the mountain and the light shining through one of the cracks, she increased the pace too a full sprint and ran straight into the cave. "Home sweet home" she said in the middle of a deep, exhausted breath. After dropping her knapsack on the ground, she put on an over-sized lab coat and picked up her beloved plush muffin.

"Look, Oatmeal, this is pure magic." The gray filly proudly presented the device for her imaginary audience. "Magic is simple in its nature, it exists everywhere in different forms with different sources of origin. Unicorns absorb it from their surrounding through their horn, stores it inside their body and manipulates it through basic telekinesis or with advanced spells, if they got the training." she let out a sigh and embraced the plush muffin tightly. "The Pegasus feather got a similar ability to absorb the magic of their surrounding, but instead of manipulating it, it becomes a part of them, it gives us energy to fly, it gives us the ability to walk on clouds and to manipulate weather." She put Oatmeal down on the pile of hay that she's been sleeping on the last two months, she didn't mind having to take care of herself, the treasures of the cave were plenty for food and books, and she have Oatmeal to keep her company. She picked up a loaf of bread, it was freshly baked this morning and covered in sticky honey. "Basicly, the potential of a ponies use of magic depends on the size of the wings or horn and how much magic their bodies can store. There are of course cases who perform beyond this."

For weeks Ditzy had collected Pegasi feathers and connected them to the spiral shaped device which she'd built out of the blades of golden swords, a chandelier and a shield at the base. The device was hanging from a chain in the middle of the cave. One morning, just a few days after she started attaching the feathers it started radiating in a warm, Yellow light. During the night, it got colder and the color changed into a dark purple shine, but as more feathers were connected, the light grew brighter and warmer, until a pillar of white light descended from the shield, down too a rock underneath it.

For a moment, she stared at the device in silence. The light was blinding and the heat made it unbearable to stand close too for more than a few moments. "How am I suppose to use this?" She murmured in her breath and took bite of the bread. She sat down on the pile of hay and looked around the cave, There was a hole in the ceiling which lead too a lot bigger cave, it must have once been the lair of a dragon, maybe it abandoned it after realizing that some of its treasures disappeared through cracks in the floor. Even though the small cave had enough gold and jewels for a lifetime of luxury, she never bought expensive meals or items. It was best not to make people suspicious, there would unquestionably be a lot of fuzz if somepony from the town would follow her and find out that she lives alone in a cave.

When she finished her meal, she stood up and stumbled towards the pile of swords, spears and other various weapons she'd placed in the deeper part of the cave. After realizing how clumsy her movements were in the robe, she took it of and threw it on a pile of jewels. She took up a spear, attached the last piece of the bread on the spearhead and moved towards the device. Sitting with her legs crossed, she moved the piece of bread into the beam of light, stared at it for a moment, then started moving it around inside the beam of light. Letting out a disappointed sigh, she rested her head on a hoof and discovered that it was sticky with honey. She put the spear down, leaning it on a rock, making sure that it would stay put with the bread inside the light and moved to a golden bowl, filled with water. "Don't make a mess, make sure you always look you best." She soaked her hooves and washed her face. "That' what mommy used to say. Remember, Oatmeal?" she cuddled up with the plush muffin to wipe of the water and giggled happily. Suddenly she let out a sigh and murmured. "I miss her.

With her head hanging, she slowly walked over to the device again, picked up the spear and held the piece of bread in front of her face. "strange, it should be burned from the heat. Maybe it's not that hot."She had a darker, more analysing and almost mature tone in her voice. The piece of bread gave a tickling feeling at touch, as if it was loaded with static electricity. She removed it from the spear and held it in her hoof. "It's warm, but not hot at all." She stared at the bread for a moment, turned and at Oatmeal, let out a last sigh and threw the piece of bread into her mouth.

The bread tickled the inside of her mouth and she felt energized even though she hasn't swallowed it yet. As she swallowed it, it felt like electricity shoot through her body. The hair on her back raised and her wings sprung up into the air. "This is it!" She started to flap her wings and slowly rose from the ground. "Look Oatmeal, I can fly!" She smiled while tears fell from her cheeks. She kept rising three, four meters into the air. Laughing and screaming. "Yes, it works!" Suddenly she accelerated and flew straight into the ceiling of the cave, hitting her head and falling unconscious to the ground.
