"Get that fucking door shut!" I yell as my two classmates push against the metal door to the chemistry lab. The infected are slowly forcing it open... we're fucked if they get through. I rush over put my own weight against the door.
"We're trying!" Alice screams back as we push with all our strength.
Son of a bitch... how did it come to this? Locked in a damn school chemistry lab with a bunch of rotting corpses trying to kill us. Oh yeah, I remember now. The bombs... it was the bombs.
"New York is under attack! I repeat! New York is un-" The news cut off and turned to static. My teacher stares at the television with wide eyes. The entire classroom is silent as we stare at the static filled screen. According to the news, New York has been bombed with some kind of chemical. Was it a terrorist attack? Maybe. Was it an act of war? Perhaps. All I know is, if it reaches us in Tampa, we're fucked.
"We're gonna die!" A girl from the back of the room screams. "We're next!"
"Shut up! We don't know that!" I yell as I turn to her. The worst thing to do in a time of crisis is panic. We have to stay calm and in control.
"What do you know Luke!? We could be next! What if they come for the rest of the east coast!? What if the chemicals spread to us on their own!?"
"Enough! Everyone, into the parking lot now!" My teacher yells as he opens the classroom door. Everyone runs out in panic, screaming bloody murder that the world was ending. I calmly get up and walk out into the hallway where everyone is pushing their way through the hall.
"Luke! Over here!" My best friend Kate is waving me down.
"Kate! Can you believe this crap?" I say as I push my way towards her.
"It's insane! Look at this!" She holds up her phone and shows me a news article posted only minutes ago. This isn't good... they got Virginia now. They're trying to take out the entire country!
"Let's go! C'mon!" I yell as I drag her through the hallway. I have to push through everyone, making some fall to the floor to get trampled. Can't worry about that now... Gotta get out of here.
We burst through the front doors of the school, only to find everybody screaming and pointing up at the sky. In the distance is the thing that will turn Tampa into hell itself. The missile is heading towards us at an incredibly terrifying pace. I can't panic... not now. A loud explosions makes it's way through the air, and into our ears which rattle in pain. We look up to see the sky turning a sickly green.
"Motherfucker..." I mumble in defeat. "Kate, let's get inside before..." I cut myself off when I look over at Kate. Her skin has turned a dull grey, and her eyes look empty and lifeless. Her mouth gapes open, but no words comes out. "...Kate?"
She jumps me. She fucking pushed me to the ground. Is she trying to bite me!? What the hell did that chemical do!? I push her off of me and she tumbles down the front stairs of the school. I look around to see a large majority of my classmates in the same state as Kate. Their skin has turned a dull grey, and they all appear to be dead. Oddly enough, there's still a few, like me, that are panicking and running back to the school. Some aren't lucky enough. They get pulled to the ground by the infected, where they're practically eaten alive.
"Luke! What the hell are you doing!? Get in here!" I recognize Alice, my classmate, waving at me with a worried expression on her face. She's standing in the doorway, holding the door open until I can reach her. I sprint towards her, but spare a glance behind me to get another look at what's happening behind me. This can't be happening. Kate's as good as dead, and the rest of the country is probably in ruins by now!
I dive into the school as Alice slams the doors shut behind me. The infected quickly begin to pound on the door, making the hinges creak from their weight.
"Hurry!" Alice starts to run to the closest room to us. The chemistry lab. We both run through the door, and lock in behind us. The door is metal, so it should hold should worse come to worse. I pant as I try to catch my breath. I take a look around the room to see who else had made it. Here's the list of everyone that made it back alive.
-Me, Luke. Age: 15, Male
-Alice, Age: 16, Female, Cheerleader.
-Jake, Age: 17 Male, Football Player.
-Mrs. Jones, Age: 23, Female, Gym Teacher
-Tristan, Age: 15, Male, My other best friend.
-Haley, Age: 12, Female, Acts like a child.
That makes six of us. Only six of the hundreds of students and teachers made it back? Most of the people that weren't infected by the chemicals were quickly overtaken by those who were. Some may have escaped into the parking lot, but there's no way to know for sure.
"What the hell is going on!?" Jake yells as he peeks out the window by pulling the blinds apart. He quickly closes them when he gets another look at the now bloody parking lot.
"Tampa's been bomb. It's some kind of chemical... I don't know why we weren't affected by it though..." I say as I pace around with my hands on my head.
"So what, we're just immune to it's effects?" Tristan says as he keeps an eye on the door.
"I wouldn't say we're completely immune. While it's true that we weren't turned into fucking zombies like everyone else, those chemicals still burned to touch. That's probably why the infected looked like they were rotting." I answer.
"So what, it's a zombie apocalypse out there?" Alice asks with a mixture of anger and confusion. "The dead gonna bite us to death or something?"
"Well from what I can tell, they aren't dead... just infected. Though they're just as good as dead in this state." I say as I sit down on top of a desk.
"What are we supposed to do now? It's obviously too dangerous to go outside. Should we just stay here until the police arrive?" Mrs. Jones pipes up. For a teacher, she's pretty young having just graduated college last year. She fits in well with the students due to her age, as well as being the fun gym teacher.
"Well, if we're supposed to survive here, we need a plan as well as a group leader. Any volunteers?" I say as I grab a random student's notepad off of a desk. I doubt they'll need it anymore.
"You seem to know what you're doing. I vote for Luke to be our leader." Tristan says as he pats my back once. "Any objections?"
Jake lets out a grunt, obviously wanting to be independent, though he doesn't say anything to show he objects. The rest of the group nods in agreement, and I'm officially made the leader, despite being the second youngest in the room after Haley.
"Alright, we're going to need supplies, as well as a base of operations. I suppose the chemistry lab is good enough for now... Okay, there are six of us, and I'm going to split us into teams. Alice and Haley, I want you to get the television going and see if the news channel is still up. Mrs. Jones and Jake, I want you guys to push all of the desks up against the wall to make a clearing in the center of the room. Tristan and I will head to the cafeteria to scavenge for food and water."
"Sounds like a plan." Alice claps and heads over to the TV in the corner of the room. I want to get that thing on now, because we don't know if the power will even stay on much longer.
Tristan and I head out into the hallway, but not before grabbing some weapons in case we run into any infected. I'm carrying a baseball bat that had been left by a student who kept their sports gear in the back of the chem lab. Tristan has a metal pole we unscrewed from a mop.
"Keep an eye out, the front doors are still intact, but there's no way to know if the other entrances have been breached."
"Gotcha, hey, any ideas on why we weren't infected by the chemicals?"
"It could be anything really. If I had to guess, I'd say it might be blood type. Could be genetics though."
"My blood type is A, what's yours?"
"I'm A too. It's possible that it doesn't infect those with that specific blood type."
"Well that's good news. Looks like we lucked out huh?"
"I wouldn't say that yet!" I yell as I point my bat down the hall. Between us and the cafeteria are five infected students. Crap, that means that the school's been breached somewhere. Can't worry about that now. "Take out the head! It's the quickest way to kill them!" I yell as we sprint towards the infected.
I lunge at the first one, and swing my bat with all of my strength. The thing's head explodes in a mist of red as it is smashed between the bat and a locker.
"Holy fuck..." I'm stunned. I know it's not a person anymore, but I technically just killed somebody. I don't have time to think about it as a second infected stumbles towards me. I run at it and jump, kicking it square in the chest. I smash my bat into it's head several times until it drops dead. I look over to see Tristan has taken out two, and only one remains. We both sprint at it, and completely tear it to shreds as we land blow after blow on it's body.
We pant and wipe the sweat off our foreheads as we lean against a row of lockers. This is insane. I tried to keep my composure at first, but the real me is starting to show. I'm not the tough guy I appeared to be, I'm a scared teenager just trying to make it through hell.
"L-Let's get the supplies." I mumble as we being to head to the cafeteria. We enter and head for the back of the kitchen. We grab a few packs of water, as well as some bags of chips. It's not much, but it's all we have at the moment. We lug it all back to the chemistry lab, trying not to step in the blood of the fallen students in the hallway.
"This has to be some fucking nightmare. Maybe the chemicals just make us hallucinate." Tristan tries to reason.
"Doubt it, I don't think we'd share the same hallucination..."
"So Luke, do you think this is it? Is this our life now? Survival in the apocalypse?"
"Unless there's some magical cure for the disease than I'd say so. The chemicals should dissipate eventually, probably in a few weeks, but the infected will still be a major threat... I guess we'll just have to wait until we're evacuated."
"Who says help will even come?"
"Well, if nobody comes for us, then we'll have to find our own way to survive. It shouldn't be that hard, I mean, we're immune to the chemcials right? What are a few infected people?"
"I guess you're right Luke... alright let's get this stuff in the chem lab."
We drop off the supplies in the chem lab and close the door behind us. This is definitely the best room to hide out in. The door is a heavy metal, making it as sturdy as a wall.
"Aw, sweet." Jake rushes over and uncaps a water bottle. He starts to chug it down before Alice gets onto him.
"Jake! We need to conserve!" She grabs the bottle from his hand.
"R-Right, sorry guys." He rubs his head awkwardly. For such a big guy, he really lets Alice boss him around.
"Luke, we got the television working. The news keeps repeating on a loop, you should come see this." Alice leads us over to the TV in the corner.
"-and the results show that those with a blood type of A negative are not affected by the chemicals. If you are any other blood type, please stay inside! Do not breathe in the chemicals!" The news reporter loops again, showing that this isn't live, it's a recording. For all we know, she's dead along with the rest of the news crew.
"So that's it? We're all A negative then?" Mrs. Jones asks from the back of the room.
"Guess so... I still say we stay inside, at least until the chemicals dissipate... Now let's get this shit set up."
A few hours later, and we had a reasonable living space in the front part of the chem lab. Tristan, probably the smartest of us all, is in the back trying to create some kind of bombs to use against the infected.
"Guys..." Haley, the youngest of us all, points at the door. "I hear something..."
Jake and Alice run over to the door, a gasp in shock.
"They've broken through the main entrance!" Alice screams as she looks through the glass panel on the chem lab's door.
"They're coming straight for us!" Jake yells as he leans against the door. The door opens in, towards us, so if they try to get in, we'll need to push back.
"Shit! They're attracted to sound I bet! Don't let them get in!" I yell from across the room. I run over to them as the first of the infected start to pound against the door.
"Luke!"
"Get that fucking door shut!" I yell as my two classmates push against the metal door to the chemistry lab. The infected are slowly forcing it open... we're fucked if they get through. I rush over put my own weight against the door.
"We're trying!" Alice screams back as we push with all our strength.
"This is it! Give it all you got!"
"All of you! Get in here now!" The princess yells at the bearers of the elements as they run towards the throne room. She slams the door behind them just as the undead army smashes into the doors. "Sombra's army will get in here any second... I need you all to get out of here!"
"Where!? The entire city is under attack!" Rainbow yells back at the princess.
"I've never tried this before, but with the help of my sister, we might be able to save the six of you. Luna, hurry over here please!" Luna rushes over to the group, ready to aid them in their escape.
"Princess! This is insane! You need our help!" Twilight yells.
"Twilight, just do this! It's the only way I can protect you. If I can't save my kingdom, then I want to save you!" The two princess' horns light up, and they begin to cast the spell.
"What's happening..." Fluttershy squeaks from the back of the group. Suddenly, a bright light fills the room, and a rush a wind blows against the group of friends.
"We... don't know where this will go..." Celestia grunts. "But it's your only hope of survival! Please! Go before it's too late!"
"Princess..." Twilight says through teary eyes.
"Twilight! If you want to help me you'll enter the rift, NOW!"
Twilight and the group look back at the throne room doors as they come flying off the hinges. Sombra's army slowly makes it's way towards the group. The friends look at each other and nod, then proceed to run into the rift. The last thing Twilight sees before entering is the princesses being attacked by the army. Then everything went black.
"Tristan! Those bombs better be ready!" I yell as my body is about to give out.
"I've got two! They'll blow on impact!" He yells as he carries two small objects, one in each hand. Thankfully we're in a fucking chemistry lab, so we had to ingredients to make the damn things. Oh, there's also Tristan's incredibly high IQ.
"On three we open the door!" I yell as Tristan stands a few feet from us. "One, two... THREE!" We all jump away from the door, Jake opening it before running away. By opening it ourselves, we can keep the door from being torn down off the hinges by the infected.
We roll away as the infected stumbles into the doorway. Tristan throws a bomb and it explodes against an infected's skull. It takes out only two, and maims a couple other ones. Seeing as how he made them out of school supplies, it's no surprise they aren't all that effective. However, it does give us an opportunity to attack with melee weapons. There's only about nine infected left once the bombs do their duty.
"Now's our chance!" Jake yells as he rushes and infected while carrying a metal chair. He starts beating the thing senseless, and I grab my bat and get to it. Jake, Tristan, and I take down all of the infected, but not without taking a few beatings ourselves.
"Well... that's fucking over... What's up with the lights?" I ask as a weird flashing light comes from the back of the room.
"Is the electricity going out!?" Alice screams as she starts to panic.
"No! It's not the lights! It's... well... fuck! I don't know!" I yell as I have to shield my eyes as the light becomes even more intense. Finally, as weird as it sounds, the light kinda... explodes. The light fades away, and I blink my eyes to get them to start working again. Papers have been throws everywhere around the room, but that's the least of our worries.
Looking back the the six of us, are six creatures that are even more shocking than the infected. They look like fucking rainbow colored horses, but... smaller, like half my height, and I'm six feet tall. I stare at them, and they stare back. The whole room is in silence until I Jake breaks the ice.
"What the fuck is going on!?"
"Jake! Chill out!" I yell as I slowly approach the group of... whatever these things were. They seem dazed, but still conscious.
"Ah! What the hay!?" The blue one with rainbow colored hair yells. Wait what the fuck? It talked!?
"Son of a bitch!" I flinch back slightly. "You talk!?"
"My eyes... ah. Wait where are we?" The purple one asks. This one has a little horn on it's head. Oh don't fucking tell me it can use magic or some bullshit like that.
"Tampa, Florida. Who are you and how did you get here?" I say as I raise my bat. Still don't know if they're aggressive or not.
"My name is Twilight Sparkle. These are my friends. We... escaped from a war. What are you exactly?"
"My name's Luke. Don't tell me you've never seen a human before."
"Can't say we have." The orange one with a hat says in the back of the group.
"Well, the same question could be asked about you. The hell are you?"
"We're... ponies. Isn't it obvious?" Twilight says with a confused look. "We came here hoping to find a peaceful place to stay. Our home's under attack and we can't really return..."
"Well, you just landed yourselves into the center of hell itself. Take a look outside." I say as I lead the group over to the window. I open the blinds enough for only two of them to see out. We still don't know how well the infected can see. Twilight and the blue one look through the opening, and gasp at the sight of so much blood on the pavement outside.
"W-What happened..." The blue one says as she drops back to the floor.
"Some chemical got dropped on us. It turns people into, well... those things out there." Tristan says from by the door.
"Might I ask... why is it that none of you are like... those things out there." The white one says as she takes a look through the window.
"Our blood type. It makes us immune to the chemicals."
"When... did all of this happen exactly?" Twilight asks with a worried expression.
"Come sit down. We'll explain everything..."
We told the group of "ponies" what happened in just the past few ours. We learned the names of all of the ponies, and it seems that they've all taken to a different person in the room. Twilight quickly became friends with Tristan because of their love for knowledge. Same thing happened to the rest of the group. I quickly took notice of the blue one who goes by the name Rainbow Dash. She's a fighter, she's strong, and she's... a little cute I'll admit...
"So, would we be turned into some kind of zombie too if we went outside?" Rainbow asks as we sit at a lab table in the back of the room.
"Doubt it... It doesn't seem to have any effects on animals." I say casually as I make a checklist on a scrap piece of paper. I unexpectedly get hit in the shoulder by a hoof.
"Hey! We are NOT animals. Where would you get a stupid idea like that!?"
"Sorry! It's just... humans are the only sapient species here. Anything else is considered an animal. Would you rather I consider you as a human?"
"It'd be nice. We aren't some wild animals that can't think."
"Then it's a deal... Hey your friend Fluttershy, she seems to really like Mrs. Jones over there." I point towards the two with my pen.
"Well they both seem to be really big on animals. It's easy to see why they'd get along... So Luke, what do you do around here for fun? I'm kinda bored."
"Well, when the world isn't ending, I like to play video games and sports. But, it looks like I'm never doing either of those again."
"Oh... I'm really sorry about what happened to you guys. It sounds horrible."
"Well, we aren't any better off than you were. At least we weren't directly attacked by a fucking army."
"Yeah..." Rainbow's ears drop and I catch a small twinkle in her eye.
"Oh, uh, sorry. Don't want to talk about that?"
"Not really... I doubt we'll ever even see Equestria again."
"C'mon, don't talk like that. There's always hope. Ever heard the saying about a light at the end of the tunnel? It means that something good always comes from something bad. Who knows, maybe this whole chemical thing will end for the good."
"What good could come from some like THAT?"
"I don't know really. But it doesn't hurt to keep a spark of hope."
"You really have a way with words Luke." Rainbow says as she leans her head on my shoulder. It seems a little weird for someone to get this close to me after just meeting them. I don't push away though, because there's a chance that it's just a thing that these ponies do in their society.
"You could say that... Say, Rainbow, do you know if any of your friends can fight?"
"Fight? Why do you wanna know that?"
"Because of the infected. I'm trying to form a group of scavengers to go out on supply runs. Right now I have me and Jake down."
"Your best bet would be me or Applejack. Twilight can use her magic too, but she's not much of a physical fighter. Pinkie, Rarity, and Fluttershy don't really have it in them. At least I don't think they do."
"Noted... Y'know, if it weren't for the whole chemical thing, I doubt I'd even believe you were real. Once you've seen your fellow student body turned into a bunch of mindless zombies, nothing really seems impossible anymore."
"I can't believe we ended up in a place like this." Rainbow sighs as she closes her eyes.
"Neither can I Rainbow... neither can I... Hey, don't tell anyone, but I'm actually really scared about all of this."
"What? But you seem so cool and collected. And you seems so tough, like nopony can touch you."
"I have to look like that I front of the group. If I let the real me show, they might not respect me anymore. The real me is a sensitive, happy go lucky guy. I HAVE to put on that act to keep everyone from panicking."
"Oh... to tell the truth, I'm not what I always appear to be either... I'm kinda like you I guess. Try to act tough, and hide the sensitive side."
"Yep, that's me in a nutshell. You know what, I like you Rainbow Dash. I hereby declare you my friend." I say with a little smirk. I hold at my hand for her. She places her hoof in my hand and gives it a little shake.
"I gladly accept." She laughs lightly, which only serves to make me laugh in return. We start to laugh uncontrollably as we get louder and louder.
"Why... are we laughing... so hard." Rainbow says between gasps for air.
"Because this is such a random fucking situation. It makes it hilarious, and I don't know why!"
"Can you two keep it down back there?" Rarity says from across the room where she sits with Alice. Apparently they're both into fashion.
"What? We can't have a good time?" Rainbow says, still laughing a little bit. Rarity just rolls her eyes and goes back to talking to Alice. "So, Luke, do you like anypony?"
"What? Uh, I can't... Can't say I do. I've always been a lone wolf y'know."
"Ah, same here. Yeah, I just never really found anypony that I clicked with." She says.
"You keep saying that. It's so annoying, you don't even know." I say with a chuckle. It feels nice to finally just relax a little bit instead of worrying about the hell that is the outside world.
"Keep saying what?"
"You add pony into like, every word. You pronounce it anyONE, not anypony. That just sounds dumb."
"You sound dumb." She says with a small laugh as she shoves me a little. I turn to shove her back, but a loud whirring sound comes from somewhere within the school.
That's when the power shut off...
