Pies And Cider
A Happy Ending.
Previous ChapterAfter the wreck that was their first date, they thought that it was best to have a stay at home meal to spend the rest of the evening as a wind down.
Due to their run in with the rain, the cakes that they had purchased from sugar cube corner were well and truly destroyed.
Who'd of thought that the small cold droplets could cause such a destruction and yet, there lay the sodden treats in a heap on the counter. The neatly arranged icing was, well, no longer neatly arranged icing. Some lay on the lid of the box, some on the walls of it and some in the pile of crumbs and grated carrot, making a runny gooey substance where the cakes used to sit.
Though Soarin was not a picky eater, something about its chunky orange and brown appearance made it hard to eat.
Looking up, he noticed Rainbow's expression matched his. Her tongue slightly stuck out and her nose was wrinkled while eying the 'cakes' on the countertop.
"I think I'll go see if I have anything else to eat." Rainbow Dash said looking back up at the stallion. "I'll be back in ten seconds flat." And with that, she left him in her dining room.
They had decided to go back to her house for the night as it was getting later and neither of them had eaten anything due to the storm.
Though he had seen the outside at the begging of the date, he hadn't been inside her house before.
When he had taken the first few steps into her house, he had to stop to pick his jaw up from the floor.
House? She called this a house? Mansion was more like it!
Boy was she going to have trouble adjusting when she got into the Wonderbolts. They only had what they needed so that they could stay close to their job. Though they had a large stadium and a large leisure centre too, their homes usually consisted of apartments that were about the size of her living room.
The dying light from the window shone through to the smooth cloud surface which he was leaning on.
The good thing about clouds is that it's quite like stone once you compact it enough. To Pegasi at least; any other type of pony and they would still find it squishy.
This was due to the bone density of the ponies though. Earth ponies and unicorns had strong hard bones but for a Pegasus to fly, it would simply be too heavy. That's why their bones normally consisted of either cartilage or were hollow. This didn't necessarily mean that they were weaker than the others though, it's just their bones broke easier.
Soarin could tell from Rainbow's history of broken bones that she was the perfect example of this difference in Pegasi's genes.
Fortunately, their bones also healed quicker than other types of pony though so I guess it evens out.
The door opened to the kitchen, allowing the rainbow maned mare to pass through with a devious look on her face.
"Well, I was out of everything else... apart from this pie of course!" She announced in fake sadness, drawing the pie out from behind her back and passing it under Soarin's nose.
Soarin practically drooled on the table when he saw the look of it.
A golden brown crust, flaky but still crispy, masking the sweet scent of apples that lay beneath the steaming surface. To top it off, it was held in hooves of the one that he truly ached for.
Rainbow smiled at the goofy grin on Soarin's face. "Its one of Aj's pies. Ya know: the one from the gala. I have reheated it and it should be the right temperature but if it's pie, I don't really think you'll mind."
Soarin sat still looking at the baked masterpiece that was before him.
"I'll just split it, then we can get started."
He watched her as she rooted around for a knife in the cutlery draw and watched her tail swing by her flank as she did so.
A hot feeling shot from the tip of his nose right to the top of his ears as he shook his head to get rid of the tormenting images that beckoned his gaze to continue. It was only their first date, he didn't want her to think that he was a pervert.
What he didn't know it that she had already caught him out red hooved.
To taunt him a little more, she picked out the knife and bent down to check the cabinets for glasses and plates for the two of them. As she did so, she spoke: "Enjoying the view, Soarin?"
His ear flattened to his head. The Wonderbolt swallowed hard and looked back toward his marefriend, blushing harder at her new position.
"Uh huh..." He replied unintentionally, earning a giggle from Rainbow.
She stood back up and returned to her large dining table, laying out the glasses and beginning to cut the pie to put it on the plates. Also, another glass bottle caught Soarin's attention.
"What's that?" He asked gesturing towards it with a hoof. Rainbow Dash tracked his hoof back to where the bottle lay.
"Oh, it's the last of my cider stock. That's from Applejack's farm too." She added, continuing her task of serving the pie.
After she had finished, she popped open the bottle, letting the cool crisp liquid flow into the crystal like glasses, causing the light to dance around the room in reflected patterns.
"But if I have too much of that, I won't be able to fly home," Soarin stated. "and if I can't get home, you'll have to let me stay here and... Oh!"
The sudden realisation washed over the stallion.
"I don't have to let you stay here, you know." Rainbow replied, smirking at his shocked face. "I could quite easily kick you out, drunk off of your flank to sleep the night off on a storm cloud."
Soarin squirmed a little at the prospect of laying out in the cold the whole night. Surely she wouldn't be that harsh about one little misunderstood comment. Right?
"Rainbow, I-I-"
Dash cut him off with a hoof in his mouth. "I don't have to let you stay, it's just your luck that I want you to." She said, the evil grin becoming more apparent after she had seen that it had worked.
Soarin sighed in relief and laughed while glaring down at his marefriend. "You can be really mean with those jokes, you know that right?"
"Yeah, but you love me for it." She whispered into his ear. The tone she used sent a shiver down Soarin's spine. He could feel the warmth of her breath on his skin. She was so close to him. The images of her rooting around in the cupboards came to mind then and...
Poof.
His wings shot out from his sides along with a deep crimson appearing on his face. Celestia darn it!
Rainbow smiled "I thought so."
Soarin couldn't help but chuckle. She was such a tease. And she was right too.
Dash then walked to the throne opposite him and raised a cider filled glass to the ceiling. "To the worst slash best date ever!"
"And many more!" Soarin laughed.
In the end, there was no such thing as the perfect date but spending it with one another was all it needed to make it the best and the first of many.
They didn't need a fancy dinner to make things perfect, just pies and cider.
