//-------------------------------------------------------// Pies And Cider -by Frothy- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Meeting up and Scootaloo's test //-------------------------------------------------------// Meeting up and Scootaloo's test This was it!!!! This was all the stallion could think about as he strolled through Ponyville at dusk. He had planned this night for ages and things could not have gone better. He had first asked the mare out when she was called in by Spitfire to attend a party, where the leader of the Wonderbolts planned to show off that the only one to pull off a sonic rainboom wanted in. 'It's just advertising,' she always said to Soarin 'and it's effective too!'. Shaking his head playfully at the memory, Soarin chuckled a little. The pegasus was dressed in a black tux and tie accompanied by a white shirt. The tux had a red rose woven through the button hole to add some colour to the otherwise monochrome outfit. He had to look awesome, no... 20% cooler at least! He smiled as the expression entered his head looking back at the first time she had used it in front of him. At first he thought that it was one of the weirdest things to comment, but after a while, it stuck. He had to bite his tongue around the rainbow maned mare in an attempt not to steal her catchphrase. He was quickly approaching her house now. It wasn't that difficult to spot to be honest. After he asked the question that had been on the tip of his tongue for ages, she said to look for the floating house in the sky at Ponyville. When questioned how he would identify it, she simply smiled. Trust me, you can't miss it she whispered into his ear. Just thinking of that moment sent a shiver down Soarin's back. He loved every part of that mare from the cocky, egotistical shell to the sweet caring centre. That's all he had to think about when he tried to ask her out. That turned out to be a nightmare. She was standing alone at the party. Where as many had gone formal, Rainbow had just come as normal, but her hair had been thoroughly brushed, unlike its usual windowing state. Even though she wasn't wearing much, to Soarin, she still looked gorgeous. swallowing the lump he had in his throughout, he made his way over to the mare, shaking and shivering with each step. As soon as he had her attention, he thought to himself play it cool Soarin, play it nice and cool. "Hey Soarin, what's up?" "H-h-hey Rainbow Dash... um... I-I... er... have you tried the pie yet? It's great." Real cool Soarin, real cool(!). "No, I haven't yet. Why is it that good?" She didn't seem to notice the stallion let out a sigh of relief. He hadn't blown it... yet... "Yeah, um... it's pretty good!" "Coming from Mr. Pie addict himself." She giggled smiling up at the Wonderbolt. That simple action made Soarin's heart flutter in his chest. She was so cute and she didn't even know it. The casual tone that Dash had set seemed to calm his nerves a little though. "Ha ha, very funny. Can see you've already been talking with Spitfire too much..." putting on a face of fake hurt and sticking his bottom lip out. Rainbow laughed aloud and punched him playfully on the arm. "Hey, the second time I saw you, I had to save your pie from falling to its ultimate death. I don't need to talk to Spitfire to know that you are just a tad obsessed with them." "Yeah, thanks for that by the way." "Oh it's no prob, seriously." "Uh... Hey rainbow, do you want to meet up for dinner sometime? Just like... Uh you and me maybe?" That question stopped her dead in her tracks. Her magenta eyes scanned his for the answer to her inevitable question. "You mean like a... date?" She asked raising an eyebrow. Soarin folded his ears back and looked away from her. "Is that a no?" "No... No ,no, no it's not a no. I'm just surprised that you... you know with all the looks and the moves like a mare like me that's all." His eyes snapped back to hers wide with shock. "So your saying..." "Yes Soarin, I would love to go out with you!" That had made the party one of the best nights of his life. Not long after that, he had booked a reserve on a train that served dinner. He knew how much Dash love speed and to combine these two elements would hopefully make it the best way to start a first date. It was also said to be by candlelight in their private carriage so it was also rather romantic too. With a spring in his step, he continued to make his way down the dirt path unknown to him that two eyes were watching him from the bushes, assessing him in each way or form. It was time for action. "Mister!" Soarin turned back to see a young filly on a scooter catch up to him. "Hey there kid! You ok?" "Heh yeah, I'm fine! What are you doing round these parts anyways? I though you were a Wonderbolt!" "Yeah,... I am but tonight is my night off and... well I am seeing somepony special." "Oh yeah? Who's that?" "Uh... it's um... Rainbow Dash." The filly smiled at the stallion. "I though so." The stallion turned to face the filly. "Do you know her?" Scootaloo looked at Soarin with an evil grin and explained simply that Rainbow had took her under her wing as her little sister. "Oh right! so that makes you uh... Scootaloo, yes?" "Yup, that's me alright." He seemed nice enough but she had to make sure that he was good enough for Rainbow. "So, do you like flying?" "Yep, you bet!" "And you like romance?" "I guess it depends upon who it's with..." "Is Rainbow one of the ones you would feel comfortable with?" The stallion nodded quickly. "If you had to give up the Wonderbolts or your relationship with Dash, which would you choose?" "What?" That wasn't the correct answer. "Which would you choose?" She insisted. Soarin sighed. "It depends where we are in our relationship. I would talk to her before making any decision. But if it were going well, I would probably have to chose Rainbow Dash of course!" Well done Soarin she thought. "Ok, well this is Dash's house so I'll see you round!" "Ok. Bye!" Soarin looked up at the house above. It was more like a mansion than a simple house. Even the Wonderbolts just had simple little apartments to live in; nothing like this. Clearing his throat, he flew up to her front door, knocking three times. As the sound of the door being opened from the other side, Soarin straightened his tie and ran a hoof through his mane. "Hey Dash, are you ready to-" She looked stunning. she was wearing a dark purple dress with small lightening bolts, the colour of lavender, embroidered into the edge of the translucent trail. Silver swirls come from the chest area of the dress into a halter neck like fashion blending in with a silver ribbon she had running throughout her rainbow mane (that had actually been styled into a single long curl much like rarity s). The ribbon trailed up to her head where it was worn as a hair band that rested just above her long fringe that covered her right eye with a small flick out at the end. All of this combined with the cute smile that she wore was just too overwhelming for Soarin. "Uh... Soarin? You might wanna pick your jaw up buddy." She chuckled slightly. Realising that he must of looked like a complete idiot, he shook his head quickly to release himself from the stupor. "Y-yeah... it's just... wow!" He said looking into her large, magenta eyes. "Sorry, I would have worn makeup but I didn't really have time." Looking deeply into his eyes as she spoke. "No you look amazing! To be honest, I wouldn't have been able to tell if you had makeup or not." Blushing slightly, Rainbow coughed into her hoof. "So, shall we get going then?" "Oh... yeah... right." Rainbow then locked her door and turned back to Soarin. This was going to be the best night ever, as long as things went according to plan. Oh, and trust me when I say that, unfortunately, they don't. Author's Note Hey everypony! I'm sorry this chapter is a bit fast pace but I wanted to start a Soarindash fanfic where neither of them die this time! Anyway, thanks for reading and I will hopefully update soon! https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/twilightsmile.png //-------------------------------------------------------// Wings and Water. //-------------------------------------------------------// Wings and Water. "She really said that to you?" "Yep, every word." The stallion said. Dash giggled slightly as she flashed an apologetic smile at her Coltfriend. "Sorry. Her hearts in the right place... she was just trying to look out for her sister. But I think that testing you on it was a bit obvious." "Ah, don't worry about it. She seemed quite fun other than that. Isn't she also the one who you told me was really good on her scooter?" Dash nodded her head while looking down at her feet. "Uh huh..." "Um... Rainbow, are you ok?" Her head snapped up to look at Soarin with an expression that he had only seen once. It matched the one when he had accused her of sending Spitfire the fake note, when he told her that she would be banned. She looked worried. "Yeah, its just... uh... I have started to give her flying lessons." He nodded signalling for her to continue. "A filly at her age should have been able to fly for a while now but,... She just can't seem to get off of the ground as easily as the others. I don't want to think about it much but I have to wander wether if she will get there after a lot of training or wether... wether she won't get it at all." Soarin looked at her with understanding. He could see the complex of the filly's situation and why Rainbow was hesitant to get Scootaloo's hopes up for nothing. "I shouldn't worry about it too much. When I was a young colt, I could've sworn I had stunted wings. Everypony else was buzzing around quite happily but I just didn't have big enough wings for it. But after years of training, I suddenly had a growth spurt, wings and all. After that, you never saw me on the ground. She will probably have the same thing happen to her. I definitely doing some wing exercises to help her muscles develop so that when she can fly, she will leave the others in the dust." Rainbow looked at him in a state of awe. Slowly, her expression melted into the most grateful of smiles. "Thanks Soarin, I needed that." They carried on walking as the station drew nearer to them. "I can see the station there! Have you got the-" SPLASH! A rushing taxi driver sped past causing a large puddle to engulf the couple in a tsunami of water. They just stood there. The cold water was dripping off of every inch of Soarin's body causing him to shiver as droplets made their way down his back. As the droplets of the water sunk in its icy fangs, the pair froze to the spot, eyes shut tight as if it would somehow make the sensation go away. It was like when you have someone with arachnophobia asking wether they have a spider on their back, frozen with fear. After the initial shock value wore off, the two ponies glanced at each other, their eyes wide and their mouths gasping for air. "Well, that's one way to kick off the evening." Rainbow said with a slight laugh. It was contagious. "Well, you know that I love to start things with a splash!" More laughter. "Jeez, that was a bad pun..." Dash chuckled punching him lightly on the shoulder. Soarin smirked. "If you really thought it was that bad, why did you laugh then Dashie?" He had decided to push his limits by using her nickname he had learnt from Pinkie Pie. To his surprise he was met by a mumble and her pushing her fringe over her face though despite her best efforts, a slight tinge of red was visible on her face. Raising an eyebrow, Soarin brought attention to the awful attempt at covering it. "Are you, the Rainbow Dash, blushing?" Straight out the frying pan and into the fire. As soon as the words left his mouth, she shrunk back in on herself putting both of forelegs in front of her face. The mare was acting like a filly who had been caught stealing from the cookie jar and trying to hide the guilty expression. She looked adorable. Suddenly, Rainbow's eyes met his which brought a smile to the mares face. "S-says you." She giggled from behind a hoof. He had not even felt his face heat up at the time. Darn it, why did she have to be so cute. He smiled nervously, while raising a hoof up to cover the cheek that Rainbow had closest to her. The silence that settled between them caused a slight awkwardness to appear in the air. The two avoided each other's gaze and looked around their surroundings a little before running out of places to look. "Uhem... Maybe we should start heading to the station to dry up?" Soarin suggested, trying to escape the lingering effect of their last conversation. "Y-yeah." Rainbow Dash agreed while nodding. With the first obstacle evaded, they managed to carry on walking to arrive at the station. While Rainbow Dash went to go and dry her dress with the hoof dryer in the filly's room, Soarin had to try and dry his blazer mainly in the Colts. While holding it underneath the dryer, Soarin suddenly smelt a strong burning smell. At first, it didn't really bother him as they were at the train station and it didn't really have the smell of burning clothing either. But after a while, he began to become worried. It wasn't the blazer burning, it was the contents of the pockets that was. Coming to that sudden realisation made Soarin bring the blazer from under the dryer quickly to check it's pockets. Keys, no. Wallet, no. Aftershave, no. Suddenly his hoof skimmed two very burnt pieces of paper. At first glance, it was nothing that important but to Soarin, he almost passed out. It read on the front of both of the pieces of paper: Party name: Skies (Soarin) Dinner for two, Canterlot express, carriage 3. It was their tickets for the train. Author's Note Here is the update! I have had a very bad/ long week this week so I haven't really had a chance to update till now but it's done now... for a while. Thank you for reading and if you have commented thank you soooo much too.:pinkiegasp: https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/pinkiegasp.png:pinkiehappy: https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/pinkiehappy.png:ajsmug: https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/ajsmug.png //-------------------------------------------------------// Spies! //-------------------------------------------------------// Spies! "These are clearly tickets for a train!" Soarin was standing, arguing with the conductor about their burnt tickets. After the panic of first realising what had happened, he had tried to blow the black from the edges away to reveal the markings. Instead of the desired result, he ended up blowing a whole portion of the ticket away. How was he supposed to know that it was that burnt. They should have made it from a better material. Card may have been better. "Yes Sir, I can see that. However the date is not written on them so I don't know which train it could've been." "Surely you keep a record of these things!" "If I did, I assure you Sir, that I would not hesitate to check. I am sorry but I cannot allow you on this train." Grunting in frustration, he turned back to Rainbow Dash. "Sorry Rainbow, looks like the plans I made have to change." He spoke through gritted teeth casting a glare over at the conductor. "Hey, that's alright! There are a few cool places in Ponyville; it couldn't hurt to go somewhere... uh... less fancy." Soarin noticed Rainbow's hesitation and watched as a slight sign of relief overtook her body. Of course, he had forgotten... Rainbow was not used to high class posh situations. Normally, the Wonderbolts had to attend many a formal dinner but Rainbow Dash, who had only really been to the Grand Galloping Gala, had not had much experience in this area. Soarin bit his lip for not thinking of that earlier. He just wanted to treat Rainbow to a nice meal. But the pressure on the normally brash, cocky and scruffy mare had to be immense if she wanted to spend the evening in such a posh atmosphere. A cyan hoof waved in front of his face, breaking his concentration on the topic."Uh,... hello? Soarin in there?" "Huh...I mean... yeah! Sounds great." "Awesome, I know the perfect place." After a minute or two of walking, they arrived in front of the doors to a house strangely resembling a gingerbread one. The roof was highly decorated with cakes and a sign that had a pony dancing with a candy cane on it. "Here we are!" Rainbow announced to the Wonderbolt, taking him by surprise. "Come on, let's go inside! Their cupcakes are the best! Probably not as fancy as what you had planned, but hey, it's better than nothing!" She shot him her trademark smirk and wandered into the bakery causing Soarin to chuckle at her antics. As Rainbow picked out a table for both her and Soarin to sit on, he looked around the room to see that there was just one other party there. A party of five to be exact; each of them covering up their faces by a menu. "Soarin, you can sit down ya know." Snapping his vision back to his marefriend, he saw her sat at a two seater table mentioning to the seat opposite her. "Sorry Dash, just got a little distracted." Soarin answered gazing back at the five mares in the corner. This simple action caused all of the seated ponies to flinch and raise their menus higher, creating an auditable whispering sound in the air. This made the tension in the room rise dramatically. Dash tracked Soarin's gaze back to the strange party, lowering her head as her eyes met ones of purple. "Oh no..." Soarin looked at the rainbow maned pony and back across to the neighbouring table again. "Soarin," Dash whispered, as if trying not to be heard. "don't look at them! Just slowly sit down and keep facing me." Soarin obeyed. "Why, do you know them?" "Yes." "A- are they d-dangerous?" "No..." "Oh, then why are you hiding from them?" "They're spying on us... do you remember those mares who were almost destroyed at the Wonderbolts Academy?" "Uh,... Yeah. You tell me about them all the time! There's Pinkie, Rarity, Applejay, Fluttershy and of course Princess Twilight Sparkle, right?" "First, it's Applejack,... second, they have wanted to know everything about you before I committed to you. They want to know if your good enough." She said in a hushed voice, her eyes drifting back over to the table. Before she committed to him? Didn't she already when she said yes? What if he wasn't the only one Rainbow was seeing? What if he had to put up a fight? How could he handle losing her if he came second? Rainbow Dash's friends were her to look out for her. This however made the atmosphere uneasy. "Its nothing personal!" Soarin raised his eyes to see Rainbow Dash staring right back t him, a hint of panic present in her jolted reaction. She clearly hadn't meant that the way it had come out. Her eyes were wide and her mouth was open. She looked shocked to find that the words had made it past her brain before coming out like a swarm of bees to pierce Soarin's heart. They looked at each other a while longer before Soarin finally found his words. "Why do you need them to look after you? I thought you were the kind of mare that could handle herself." Soarin mentally facehooved when he saw a flicker of pain emerge in the bright magenta pools. An emotion that really didn't suit the strong mare that stood before him. Her eyelids concealed the foreign emotion from the outside world. He watched to see that her whole body had tensed for a small shaking was coming from every ligament. "I'll talk to you about it later, ok?" At this moment, he felt like he had just been accused of murder. Though she had tried to hide it, Soarin had clearly brought up a sensitive topic. The guilty silence that enclosed the two in their own little bubble was popped by a light cerulean mare composed with a swirl of a mane of crimson on her head, ranging in gradients. "Hello my dears, how may I help you today?" The fact that they were able to get off of the previous topic was a huge relief to Soarin and, out of the corner of his eye, he saw Rainbow's earlier demeanour had vanished. "Hey there Mrs Cake! I'll have a carrot cake please!" "Of course Rainbow Dash! And for you Sir?" "Oh, no need for such formalities, just call me Soarin. I think I'll probably trust Dashie's judgement today and have the same." Oops! It slipped out again. Casting a quick look in Rainbow's direction, he could see a dark crimson tinge to her cheeks. Oh man, was he pushing his boundaries right now! Keep this up and he would go home with a black eye. "To take away or to eat in?" "Take away!" Rainbow Dash snapped, though not looking at the baker, more the table behind her. "O-ok! I'll be, um... right back with your order." Soarin watched as the mare made her way to get the two cakes, stopping at the crowded table on the way. Something was definitely up. Everypony seemed to be on the lookout for Rainbow tonight. First Scootaloo, then her friends and then the baker... What happened to make them so overprotective like this? The soft sound of coins jingling freely made its way to his ears. Tracing back to the sound, he watched as rainbow took out a few bits from a pouch that appeared to be tucked up into the second layer of the dress. "Hey Dashie," Soarin laughed with a wink. "I've got this! I did ask you on a date after all and, though things aren't really going to plan, well... it's still my time to treat you. I am afraid I must insist." Giving a fake bow, he finished and flashed her a goofy grin. A warm, heartfelt smile made its way to Rainbow's lips, evaporating any awkwardness that had come between the two. It warned his heart to see her happy. "Thank you Soarin!" Taking her hoof in his, he lead her to the front desk making her giggle a little. "My pleasure, my Darling!" If looks could kill. Author's Note Hi sorry it's been a while, I always plan my stories before I begin to write them and I tried to develop this chapter as best I could but after school I just felt like putting it off:ajbemused: https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/ajbemused.png Hope you enjoyed it and look forward to the next chapter. I am! It's da best!:pinkiehappy: https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/pinkiehappy.png //-------------------------------------------------------// Gloomy Skies //-------------------------------------------------------// Gloomy Skies Oh ponyfeathers! It's raining. After the little incident at Sugar Cube Corner, Rainbow and Soarin had decided to walk down to the park as its a lovely place to stop and hang out. But as fate would have it, rain. Luckily there was a large tree, under which they could shelter. This date was not going well at all. Soarin turned to Rainbow Dash who had taken off her dress. In the mad rush they made to get to the tree, mud had splattered up the back of it, making an ugly contrast to the decorative lightning bolts that shone beneath. The mud had also found its way onto her face and in her hair too. It no longer held the pristine curls and colour that it began with; now it was more of a tangled mess. She sat running her hooves through the trail on her outfit. "Rarity is going to kill me!" He heard her mumble. Soarin let out a deep sigh. It wasn't meant to be like this. He thought it was going to be like in the movies where they run toward each other in slow motion, hearts beating as one, to finally lock each other's muzzles in a deep kiss. And then, reality kicked in. He looked back to the frazzled mare to his side. She didn't look like was having a particularly good time either. Her eyebrows were knitted together in a thoughtful expression which drew together with her half closed eyes. Even in this state Soarin couldn't help but think of her as cute. Looking back out at the scenery, he found himself pulling the exact same expression. The clouds were great and black, spewing water onto the shimmering ground. The difference in temperature between the sky's tears and the ground caused a slight mist to erupt, rising into the ever darker sky. He had completely wrecked this date. If he had just remembered to remove the tickets from his blazer, they would be on the train right now. But noooooo! He just had to forget one of the main events of the evening sat in his pocket, waiting to be wrecked by who? Him! "I'm sorry about this." That voice snapped him out of his thoughts and brought his gaze back to the mare beside him. Why is she sorry? She has nothing to be sorry for! "What do yo-" He was silenced by a hoof. "If I had just ignored my friends on the table behind us it wouldn't have ended up this way." She looked him directly in the eye, sending a shiver down his spine. "I am so sorry." At this, she snapped her eyes back to look at the dress in her hooves, getting to work on the mud that ran along it. "It's not your fault, it's mine. If I had just taken the tickets out of my pocket in the first place, I would've been able to get us onto the train. This, being my first date, has actually been one of the worst days of my life. Not that it has anything to do with you of course." Something about his apology caught Rainbow's attention. "Your first date?" She raised a eyebrow to look at him. "Y-yeah." "Hm, that's surprising." Soarin turned to her. "What do you mean?" "Well, seen as your a Wonderbolt and all, I would've expected the mares to be all over you." He blushed and replied cheesly. "Yeah but none of them can compare to you." Trying to compose himself again, he looked away from the rainbow maned mare and scuffed a hoof across the ground. "So I take it you have dated before?" "Yeah, but it didn't end well." He perked his ears. "What do you mean 'didn't end well'?" Rainbow's attention was finally away from the dress. Her posture went rigid and she dropped the cloth to the ground adding more brown blotches to the already ruined fabric. Her mouth seemed to be saying something yet no sound came out. She was stumbling over her own words. After a while she shut her eyes and her posture dropped. "He... He was a bastard!" She screamed into the rain adding a few of her own tears to the ground. He body shook from holding back her emotions. She obviously didn't want to cry. It hurt to see her like this. She was normally so strong and independent but this... guy had obviously got through to the more sensitive side of her. Carefully, Soarin placed a wing over her back and pulled her a little closer to him. This sudden action caught both of them by surprise and, though she still looked hurt, a slight crimson tinted her cheeks. "Do you mind telling me what he did?" She sniffed slightly but a soft movement stroking up and down from Soarin's wing soothed her. Dash took a deep breath to begin the story. "He was very sweet at first. I mean, he was good looking and smart with a good sense of humour too..." She trailed off looking out at the sodden grass as if she could see him. "I thought for a while that he was perfect. He always showed up at my house with a present or some flowers to greet me." Smiling a little she looked back up to where Soarin's warm green eyes met hers. "He told me that I was the one." She yelled, her smile fading from her face. "He told me he loved me! He'd be the first stallion to, apart from my father of course. A true heartthrob." Soarin shuffled a little closer to her. She had obviously been head over hooves for this stallion. "He seems like quite a nice guy!" He commented, immediately regretting it as he saw her visibly wince. "His wife seemed to think so." Rainbow answered through gritted teeth. Her forelegs tensed to twist her already mud coated hoof further into the ground. Soarin finally understood. He had been using her. Lying to her. He had hurt her. Why if he ever saw the likes of him around her ever again he wou- "I was too in love to see it. He played his part well. The sweet knight in shining armour kept coming to the rescue. Until, I finally met her! Then it all backfired. As it turns out, he not only had a wife, but two foals as well. She tracked us down on a date and gave him and me a piece of her mind. She completely went all out on me. Called me a slut and... a few worse names. She was hurting too." She looked back out at the grass before closing her eyes tight. Her voice strained as she finally confessed to what had hurt her the most. "I tore their family apart, Soarin. He did too but, because I ignored the signs, I helped." Right then and right there, she burst into tears before him. Her body racked with heartfelt sobs as she shook under the strain of her cries. This couldn't go on like this. When she hurt, he did too. In response to this, he turned her to face him, holding her close with his wings. She placed her head on his chest and buried her muzzle into his fur while he put his chin on top of her head. Soon enough, he started to stroke her back with his wing. "Shhhh, it's ok. It's not your fault. You didn't see any of this coming. It was his fault for not telling you, not for you to not spot it yourself. You can't be expected to know what your not told." She stopped wailing as such. Her tears dried to small murmurs that came out of her mouth in withdrawal to the crying. "After my parents divorced it hurt though. I used to cry because I just wanted to sit with my family in one room without them fighting with one another. It's the fact that I have caused his innocent children grief because I was too dumb to spot the obvious." A shuddering gasp stopped her from continuing as she tried to hold back more tears. Her expression made it look as though she was in physical pain, holding her mouth open to supply herself with the great amount of air her body was deprived of in its pitiful state. "I beat myself up bad over it. That's when I just stayed around my house for a week. My friends told me exactly what you were just telling me. 'Oh, it's not your fault Rainbow!' But it takes two to have an affair. Wether they knew about it or not." She took another shaky breath and looked back up at him. "That's why they were looking out for me tonight. They didn't want me to get hurt again so as soon as they saw us walk into the bakery, they started to observe you. That's also what happened with Scootaloo too. She was seeing wether you were loyal or not. I appreciate all of their help but I just wanted to forget about it and have a good night with you. I guess that's ruined now too." Soarin stood still, shocked about all of this new information that he had been bombarded with. It all fell into place. The quiz, the whispering at the table, Mrs Cake conferring with them as she passed by. They were protecting Rainbow Dash from none other than himself. The thought of it made him feel sick. He loved her truly, not like the other guy, and he couldn't stand to see her like this for much longer. Looking up at the sky he saw a small opening between the black veil that coated the sky. "Do you trust me?" Soarin asked the mare in his wings. "What? What has that got to do with any of this?" "I said, do you trust me?" He said, holding a hoof out for her to grasp. She looked from the extended limb to the stallion who owned it. Slowly, she placed her own within his. "I do." No sooner had she uttered the words, Soarin dragged her out into the rain taking off at a great speed and picking her up so that she lay in his forelegs. He stopped just underneath the skyline to look at the city below. "Listen here, um... er... What was his name?" "Citrus burst." She said giggling at the sudden change in the stallions attitude. The rain continued to trickle down their bodies but they didn't care. "Oh, yeah, so listen Citrus burst, you screwed up. You get only one chance with the Dash and, as Celestia is my witness, if you ever come near her again, I will personally and professionally shove your lies where the sun don't shine." He stopped shouting out at the city below him and looked at the mare in his hooves. "And I also want you to know that you have missed out too. Because right now... I am the luckiest stallion in the world." Finishing with a smile, he flew between the gap in the clouds to the sky above. The sun cast a pink and yellow glow across the entire expanse of cotton that lay beneath them. It was like the sea of a new day. Soarin lowered himself and Dash to the clouds below, his eyes never leaving hers for a second. She was the one for him wether she knew it or not. "Rainbow Dash," he said becoming lost in the magenta glow that shone from her eyes. "since the day that you said yes to going out with me, I have been planning the 'perfect date' and, as you can see it didn't work out too well." A smirk formed on his face when he heard her giggle. Boy, was she adorable. The sun illuminated her face and made her eyes glitter in the light. Her hair was now, more or less, what she normally had. Wind blown, tangled and messy. Just how he liked it. Formalities didn't matter to him, more the pony inside. It was just lucky that she was cute too. He continued. "But it would honour me if you could let me have you as my marefriend and to call you mine. Just because I know just how much you love super cheesy things like this soooooo much!" She looked at him with wide eyes grinning madly as if Hearts Warming had come early. In a swift movement she lifted her head up to peck him on the lips, sending a blush across both of their faces. "I would like that." Maybe the date didn't go that bad after all. Author's Note Finally got the new chapter out! I always write a plan before writing the story so I really was looking forward to this chapter.:pinkiehappy: https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/pinkiehappy.png Hope you guys liked it and feel free to comment below! (There is one more chapter after this... you haven't quite gotten rid of me yet...:derpytongue2: https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/derpytongue2.png!) //-------------------------------------------------------// A Happy Ending. //-------------------------------------------------------// A Happy Ending. After the wreck that was their first date, they thought that it was best to have a stay at home meal to spend the rest of the evening as a wind down. Due to their run in with the rain, the cakes that they had purchased from sugar cube corner were well and truly destroyed. Who'd of thought that the small cold droplets could cause such a destruction and yet, there lay the sodden treats in a heap on the counter. The neatly arranged icing was, well, no longer neatly arranged icing. Some lay on the lid of the box, some on the walls of it and some in the pile of crumbs and grated carrot, making a runny gooey substance where the cakes used to sit. Though Soarin was not a picky eater, something about its chunky orange and brown appearance made it hard to eat. Looking up, he noticed Rainbow's expression matched his. Her tongue slightly stuck out and her nose was wrinkled while eying the 'cakes' on the countertop. "I think I'll go see if I have anything else to eat." Rainbow Dash said looking back up at the stallion. "I'll be back in ten seconds flat." And with that, she left him in her dining room. They had decided to go back to her house for the night as it was getting later and neither of them had eaten anything due to the storm. Though he had seen the outside at the begging of the date, he hadn't been inside her house before. When he had taken the first few steps into her house, he had to stop to pick his jaw up from the floor. House? She called this a house? Mansion was more like it! Boy was she going to have trouble adjusting when she got into the Wonderbolts. They only had what they needed so that they could stay close to their job. Though they had a large stadium and a large leisure centre too, their homes usually consisted of apartments that were about the size of her living room. The dying light from the window shone through to the smooth cloud surface which he was leaning on. The good thing about clouds is that it's quite like stone once you compact it enough. To Pegasi at least; any other type of pony and they would still find it squishy. This was due to the bone density of the ponies though. Earth ponies and unicorns had strong hard bones but for a Pegasus to fly, it would simply be too heavy. That's why their bones normally consisted of either cartilage or were hollow. This didn't necessarily mean that they were weaker than the others though, it's just their bones broke easier. Soarin could tell from Rainbow's history of broken bones that she was the perfect example of this difference in Pegasi's genes. Fortunately, their bones also healed quicker than other types of pony though so I guess it evens out. The door opened to the kitchen, allowing the rainbow maned mare to pass through with a devious look on her face. "Well, I was out of everything else... apart from this pie of course!" She announced in fake sadness, drawing the pie out from behind her back and passing it under Soarin's nose. Soarin practically drooled on the table when he saw the look of it. A golden brown crust, flaky but still crispy, masking the sweet scent of apples that lay beneath the steaming surface. To top it off, it was held in hooves of the one that he truly ached for. Rainbow smiled at the goofy grin on Soarin's face. "Its one of Aj's pies. Ya know: the one from the gala. I have reheated it and it should be the right temperature but if it's pie, I don't really think you'll mind." Soarin sat still looking at the baked masterpiece that was before him. "I'll just split it, then we can get started." He watched her as she rooted around for a knife in the cutlery draw and watched her tail swing by her flank as she did so. A hot feeling shot from the tip of his nose right to the top of his ears as he shook his head to get rid of the tormenting images that beckoned his gaze to continue. It was only their first date, he didn't want her to think that he was a pervert. What he didn't know it that she had already caught him out red hooved. To taunt him a little more, she picked out the knife and bent down to check the cabinets for glasses and plates for the two of them. As she did so, she spoke: "Enjoying the view, Soarin?" His ear flattened to his head. The Wonderbolt swallowed hard and looked back toward his marefriend, blushing harder at her new position. "Uh huh..." He replied unintentionally, earning a giggle from Rainbow. She stood back up and returned to her large dining table, laying out the glasses and beginning to cut the pie to put it on the plates. Also, another glass bottle caught Soarin's attention. "What's that?" He asked gesturing towards it with a hoof. Rainbow Dash tracked his hoof back to where the bottle lay. "Oh, it's the last of my cider stock. That's from Applejack's farm too." She added, continuing her task of serving the pie. After she had finished, she popped open the bottle, letting the cool crisp liquid flow into the crystal like glasses, causing the light to dance around the room in reflected patterns. "But if I have too much of that, I won't be able to fly home," Soarin stated. "and if I can't get home, you'll have to let me stay here and... Oh!" The sudden realisation washed over the stallion. "I don't have to let you stay here, you know." Rainbow replied, smirking at his shocked face. "I could quite easily kick you out, drunk off of your flank to sleep the night off on a storm cloud." Soarin squirmed a little at the prospect of laying out in the cold the whole night. Surely she wouldn't be that harsh about one little misunderstood comment. Right? "Rainbow, I-I-" Dash cut him off with a hoof in his mouth. "I don't have to let you stay, it's just your luck that I want you to." She said, the evil grin becoming more apparent after she had seen that it had worked. Soarin sighed in relief and laughed while glaring down at his marefriend. "You can be really mean with those jokes, you know that right?" "Yeah, but you love me for it." She whispered into his ear. The tone she used sent a shiver down Soarin's spine. He could feel the warmth of her breath on his skin. She was so close to him. The images of her rooting around in the cupboards came to mind then and... Poof. His wings shot out from his sides along with a deep crimson appearing on his face. Celestia darn it! Rainbow smiled "I thought so." Soarin couldn't help but chuckle. She was such a tease. And she was right too. Dash then walked to the throne opposite him and raised a cider filled glass to the ceiling. "To the worst slash best date ever!" "And many more!" Soarin laughed. In the end, there was no such thing as the perfect date but spending it with one another was all it needed to make it the best and the first of many. They didn't need a fancy dinner to make things perfect, just pies and cider. Author's Note Thanks for reading... Please like if you enjoyed and feel free to comment below!
