Today was her day. It was this time two years ago that she took the cake Marzipan Mascarpone Meringue Madness or MMMM for short to the National Dessert Competition at Canterlot, but this year was going to be her year. She finally perfected her Cherry Changa and now it was her time to shine. In Sugar Cube Corner there was a delicious tantalizing smell wafting through the air. Pinkie Pie was mad at work creating her dessert for the National Dessert Competition. Ever since she went to work that one time for Cherry Jubilee, she wanted to try and create the Cherry Changas she had talked about with Applejack. After many failed creations, she had finally done it. Now with the competition right around the corner Pinkie Pie was madly running around the Sugar Cube kitchen getting everything just right before she left for Canterlot that day.
"Ooo, I can't wait Madam La Flour! I'm sure I will win 1st Prize this year." Pinkie Pie said in her crazy way.
"Oui, Madam Pinkie. It is how you say... tres magnifique, no." chimed Madam La Flour spilling some flour from her open sack as Pinkie Pie rushed by her.
"Well I'm just happy that I have finally settled on the name. Cherry Changa suits it just right." Pinkie smiled gleefully. "But then again, Chimi Cherry has the pizzazz for it's tangy tart flavor. Although..." rattled on Pinkie.
"Pinkie Pie are you ready to go Hon?" called Mrs. Cake as she walked into the kitchen. " The train will be departing soon and we need to get the desserts into the dessert car."
"Oh sure Mrs. Cake, I'm just putting on the finishing touches," she replied dribbling the glaze on her last Cherry Changa.
"You have been working on this recipe for a couple of months now." commented Mrs. Cake, as she smelled the tantalizing aroma coming from Pinkie Pie's creations, causing her to lick her lips. She was so desperately craving just a tiny little nibble from Pinkie's masterpiece.
"Yes." replied Pinkie. "At first I couldn't get the tangy tart flavor from cherries, and then the tortillas wouldn't flake just right. After trying so many variations I finally found the perfect way. But then I realized that something was missing. Just what could it be you ask? Well we had the tangy tart flavor from the cherries with the fluffy flakiness of the tortillas and it just needed one more thing. Something smooth and not too sweet. That's when I became brilliant! A little drizzle of lemon glaze to set it all together, and that is how Cherry Changas came to be." explained Pinkie while she was putting all the Cherry Changas decoratively on the plate. When she was done there were two letter C's to represent the name.
"Well they certainly look divine and smell heavenly. You really have out done yourself Pinkie. I can't wait for you to come back with the Blue ribbon." replied Mrs. Cake, eyeing the treats with a lustful look.
"Well gee thanks Mrs. Cake. I promise not to let you down. Oh golly gee, look at the time! I really need to get a trotting if I want to make it to the train. But you said something and then I said something back, and then you commented and I said..." as she rambled on.
"Pinkie Pie!" Mrs.Cake said forcefully. "Get your tail going and get on the train, you only have a few minutes left before it leaves."
"Alright Mrs. Cake." responded Pinkie grabbing the desserts. "Say goodbye to the family for me."and with that she bounced out of Sugar Cube Conner carrying her prized winning dessert.
"I will, take care Pinkie." called Mrs. Cake. "Well now, time to get ready for tomorrow." murmured Mrs. Cake to herself as she started to clean up. "That Pinkie Pie, always on the go and so full of energy." she said muttering to herself while finishing the dishes.
Suddenly a mysterious rumbling came from the direction of the chimney. Putting the last dish in the drying rack, Mrs. Cake ventured forward to investigate the sound. A light sprinkling of soot slowly drifted down as she came closer to the chimney.
"What's going on in there?" Mrs.Cake thought to herself.
“Oh I forgot," said Pinkie popping her head out of the chimney scaring the daylights out of Mrs. Cake. "Would you mind keeping an eye on Madam La Flour for me? She hates it when I'm gone for awhile."
"Um sure dear." Mrs. Cake hesitantly replied trying to get her bearings. Her heart just wouldn't slow down from her fright. Pinkie was always doing something random like that. She watched as Pinkie picked herself up and shook off the soot from her coat.
"Thanks. She's sitting right over there in the corner." said Pinkie as she pointed to a seemingly normal sack of flour. That is, to anyone except Pinkie. "Oh by the way, she's a little crazy." whispered Pinkie as she zipped out of the chimney and through the door, leaving a stunned Mrs. Cake behind her.
"Well... that Pinkie sure has an active imagination. I mean, to think that a sack of flour actually is alive and needs to be watched over." Mrs. Cake said. She slowly turned around to go back to the kitchen sink. Just then, the sack of flour that Pinkie Pie had pointed to, moved. It was no longer leaning against the chair but standing upright.
"Oui. I do not need to be watched over, I can take care of myself." stated Madam La Flour. Causing Mrs. Cake to faint from trepidation.
