Alternet Chapter seven: The funeral

Rainbow Dash's Point of View

Five weeks after Mikey's death.

I still haven't gotten over Mikey's death. Why did It have to be him? Why couldn't that sniper have shot me? I wish I had saved him, but the medic and Princess Celestia told me ' There was nothing I could have done, anyway'. I often find myself seeing him, but it is in my head. Today was the day though. Mikey's funeral.

I stepped onto the stage, and tapped on the microphone, getting everypony's attention.

"I am General Rainbow Dash, Or as Specialist Mike 'Mikey' Smith called me, Dashie." I spoke in a saddened tone through the microphone. "Mikey was a good man, and he was only eighteen when he died. He was more than my friend, but my love. I should tell you all I know on how he got here. I found him in a field. There was blood everywhere, And he passed out soon after I found him. I brought him to my house and patched him up."

"The next day I was in uniform, and he saluted me. It turns out he was a Recruit in a military on the Planet he was from. Upon my request, I had him promoted to Specialist. We were on our way to the Grand Galloping Gala the night it was canceled. We gave each other nicknames, mine is Dashie, and his was Mikey. Then we were attacked. The only pony of our group that was hurt was Princess Twilight Sparkle, Who Was my best friend, died the next day." I felt a tear roll down my face.

"On our way to a FOB, he was shot by a sniper. I did what I could to stop his bleeding." I began to cry talking about it. "By the *sniff* time the medic got to him, It was too late. Mikey died too soon, May Celestia have mercy on his soul." I said, and with that I left the stage, and walked outside, as did the crowd. He was about to be buried.

I watched as they put him in the ground. I softly sobbed. After he was buried, A squad of soldiers fired three times in the air. I placed a bundle of flowers at his grave, and gave the gravestone a salute. Mikey is in a better place, now.

I kept repeating those words in my head until I got home. I wish he was with me, though.
