Letting Go
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryNext ChapterGolden sunlight filtered in from a nearby window, heralding another beautiful morning in the Golden Oaks library. Sunlit motes of dust suspended in the air fell in slow motion, before being swept roughly away to the sound of bare feet pattering on wooden floors. The calm stillness in the library was betrayed by one entity alone. Twilight Sparkle, resident librarian and personal student of Princess Celestia nervously rushed from place to place, rapidly grabbing books and notes to put away. Worry and nervous energy permeated the atmosphere, as the stressed out mare desperately tried to gain some semblance of order in the admittedly messy library.
“Oh, she’ll be here soon! How could I have forgotten to clean up again? I wish Spike hadn’t taken this week off to go help the crusaders in Manehattan!”
Quietly, the front door opened slightly, a cyan arm reaching up to gently move the bell above the door off to the side. Rainbow Dash peered inside, and looked at the fretting mare with a smirk. Silently entering and closing the door behind her, Rainbow tiptoed up behind her marefriend, who was currently deciding whether Chuckle Bear’s, “Fantastic Ice Breakers and their Applications: Vol 2.” deserved to be shelved with anthologies or under dating advice. Standing right behind her, Rainbow Dash leaned forward next to Twilight’s ear.
“Morning Sparkle butt.”
Dash couldn’t suppress a laugh at the jump from the purple mare in front of her. Turning around quickly, the fear in Twilight’s eyes gave way to a warm smile as soon as she recognized the familiar rainbow maned mare grinning wildly in front of her.
“I really hate it when you do that you know.” Twilight playfully chided.
“I know, but you’re just too cute when you jump light that.” Replied Dash, leaning in to share a hug with her marefriend. “So what’ve you been up to? Aside from running around like the world is on fire.” Dash asked, looking around at the scattered books and scrolls that lay everywhere. Twilight blushed slightly at Dash’s question, and replied, “Sorry, I was trying to clean up before you got here. Spike has been gone all week, and without him to remind me I can get a bit carried away with studying.”
“I can see that.” Rainbow Noted. “But you don’t have to clean up for me. I know how much you love your studying.” Rainbow leaned in to give Twilight a peck on the cheek, furthering the lavender mare’s blush.
“Thanks Dash. I’ve just been a little stressed all week.” She smiled at Dash.
“Stressed, huh? Well that won’t do.” Dash smiled back at Twilight. “Why don’t you tell me about it?”
Dash smiled earnestly at Twilight, and The alicorn smiled back, gently taking the hand of her athletic friend.
“Sure. But let’s go upstairs to my room. It’s...a bit messy down here.” Twilight said, referring to the disorder still present around them.
“Alright.” Rainbow smiled, and followed her marefriend up the stairs to a more private location.
