The jaws of the Indominus rex loomed over the fallen tyrannosaur as the hybrid carnosaur placed a clawed forehand on her foe's hip. A nasal snarl slithered from the Indominus's snout as the Tyrannosaurus let her head flop aside, hope for survival dwindling with each long second that passed. Blood stained jaws dripped pink saliva as she widened her jaws to deliver a killing blow upon the tyrant's throat.
A reptilian bark sliced the night like a knife, and the Indominus lifted her horned skull, amber eyes roving over the buildings in the surrounding area before she spotted the source of the noise.
A grey and blue Velociraptor charged forward, claws splayed and jaws wide as an unholy scream escaped its throat. Blue. With another shriek, Blue leapt up onto the Indominus Rex's back and started slashing at her vertebrae with the ferocity of a Tyrannosaurus.
The hybrid roared in frustration before feeling a vice packed with teeth grip her neck. The Tyrannosaurus thrashed her head in an attempt to bring the Indominus down. With a growl, she shoved the albino into a building, rods of metal imbedding themselves into the hybrid's shoulder as Blue leapt to the tyrant queen's shoulder to avoid being struck herself.
As the trio of saurians duked it out, a whirlwind of violet and teal crackled and sparked, inhaling clouds as it swirled. A lone Pteranodon soared above the battlefield, hoping for an easy meal out of any that died in the process. A sudden pull against her frame distracted the pterosaur long enough for it to look up at the sky.
Shrieking in fear, the flying reptile frantically beat her wings in an attempt to escape the gravitational force against her.
-Canterlot-
Onyx walked down the long castle walls, quietly whistling to himself as he twirled a key ring around his hoof in an uncanny resemblance to the stereotypical guard.
Rounding a corner, the earth stallion stopped at the vaguely audible sounds of crunching. Flicking an ear to attention, Onyx quickened his pace down the hallway, brows furrowed as curiosity drove him forward. The stallion stopped minutes later as the crunching grew louder and a strong smell of decay reached his nose.
Lifting the beam of a flashlight, horror filled his eyes at the sight of a medium sized animal glaring up at him, fiery orange eyes glowing in the light he pointed at it. The animal looked vaguely like a dragon, possessing a pair of brow horns and a thick tail. But the posture was all wrong; dragons stood either on four legs or vertically on two. This animal was hunched over, with a muscular, clawed forelimb gripping at something on the tiled floor...
A dead stallion...
With a grunt, the creature buried its snout into the stomach cavity and pulled out a thick, slippery mass that appeared to be the intestines.
The stallion, with a spare beard and long mustache, Onyx could clearly tell was Ratchet.
Onyx gasped in fear before taking a step back. The reptile's head jerked up, strands of flesh still hanging from its jaws as it glared at the stallion. With a soft, yet horrifying hiss, the animal crawled forward, gradually rising to its hind legs as it approached.
"G-get away!" Onyx shouted at the animal, swinging his flashlight in a form of self-defense.
The animal's head jerked back slightly to avoid receiving the metal to the jaw before unhinging its jaws and roaring into Onyx's face. Before the stallion could react, the creature clamped its jaws down on his shoulder and threw him down with its weight, holding him down with strong arms and legs.
Onyx screamed in pain...
-Outskirts of Ponyville-
And woke from his nightmare abruptly, lurching to an upright position in his bed with a shout. His breath came heavy, cold sweat drenching his forehead. Gasping for breath, the stallion threw aside his bed covers and sat at the edge of the mattress, wiping his head with the back of his hoof.
"Onyx?" he heard Scarlet Blitz ask groggily, feeling his wife sit up.
"Sorry," he managed to breath, shaking his head.
"What's wrong?" the red and white pegasus asked Onyx, placing a hoof on his shoulder in a reassuring fashion. "Another nightmare?"
"Ratchet was in it... He was being eaten," the mechanic said with a shiver as he recollected the sight. "I need a drink," he then said, rising to his hooves and leaving the room.
Upon entering the kitchen, Onyx rummaged through the cupboards and pulled out a glass before twisting on the tap water. The stallion let the water run for a moment before putting the glass underneath the steady stream of water and looking out the window.
Almost instantly, Onyx ducked down behind the counter with a sharp inhale. Catching his rapid breath, the stallion peeked out the window and saw with horror a pair of glowing amber colored dots emerging from the woods across his lawn.
Slowly, and quietly, as if the animal would hear him from outside, Onyx snuck back to his bedroom and past Obsidian's door. "Stay here," he told Scarlet as he entered a code into the keypad of his safe and pulled out a twin barreled shotgun.
"What is it?" she whispered nervously, coming to his side.
"Trespassers," the stallion acknowledged bluntly, slipping on a work coat and sliding two heavy shells into the chamber of his gun before leaving the room.
Inhaling deeply, Onyx swung open the front door and cautiously ducked behind an outdoor grill, staring at the two glowing orbs with a strong sense of fear developing in his gut. Crouching, as to avoid its attention, the stallion lifted the barrel of the shotgun and crept forward before the outline of the trespasser became visible.
Onyx stopped briefly, expecting the creature from his dream to be standing there... not an equine. As he approached, he could, abet barely, make out a messy mane and tail, a forked horn between the brows, and two pairs of hooves. Onyx lifted a confused brow as he advanced, relaxing his stance slightly, but cursing himself for forgetting to grab a flashlight on his way out the front door. "Who are you?!" he asked in a loud voice, dipping the barrel slightly.
On cue, the being stepped from the shadows to reveal a white mare with a light grey mane and tail. What struck him was the spines that laid flat against the elbows and her sheer size. She was easily the size of AppleJack's brother, Big Macintosh, if not larger, which surprised him considering she was a unicorn, whereas earth pony's are typically the more muscular species. The unicorn was easily a full head taller than he was, and approached with a glare and snarl.

"Back off!" Onyx barked at her as she approached, lifting the gun up and pointing it at her chest.
The mare looked down at the gun before snapping her head up and lunging forward, lips curled back to reveal ranks of serrated fangs in her jaws. Before Onyx could do anything more, he was pinned against the damp grass, forcing the shaft of his gun against her throat to avoid the snapping jaws only inches from his face.
With a growl, the unicorn planted a hoof on his chest and shifted her weight to the appendage, forcing the air from Onyx's lungs.
The earth stallion gasped in pain as his arms began to quiver with the force he exerted at keeping the fang filled jaws away from his head. "HHHHRAAAAAH!!" Onyx growled, adrenaline getting the better of him and slowly forcing the unicorn back despite the profound pressure upon his chest.
With one last shove, the stallion forced her back, quick to roll to his hooves and pull the trigger of his gun just inches away from her hoof. The mare reeled back slightly, an enraged growl escaping her throat as Onyx lifted the gun to her head. "The next one will be between the eyes if you don't get the BUCK off my property!!" he shouted at her, stumbling back to put some distance between the two.
Before she could respond, a massive, dirty brown and grey shape slammed into her ribcage, throwing the mare into the ground and spraying up clumps of wet soil and grass
Shock washed over Onyx as the newcomer came to a halt, giving him ample time to look it over. First, the 'it' was a 'he', evident in a short mane, a hint of stubble, and heavy build. He was also a Kirin, a long, hairless tail replacing the typical hairy tail. The end of the dragon tail possessed a heavy looking ball of solid bone, which swung back and forth in agitation as the unicorn groaned and forced herself to her hooves.
Onyx should have been running to escape the mare that attacked him, but curiosity rooted him in place. The stallion watched as his savior charged forward again before suddenly whirling around and swinging his clubbed tail at Onyx's would-be-executioner.
The mare reeled back to dodge the attack before lurching forward and slamming her jaws shut on the Kirin's spinal column with a spurt of dark crimson. The stallion bellowed in pain and shook himself free of her grasp, throwing his rear hooves at her face. Upon impact, the mare staggered back before collapsing, her breath shallow, taking up the form of a growl.
Before either could respond, however, the unicorn rose back to her hooves, taking one last glaring glance at the two before retreating back into the forest.
Onyx turned to his hero with a look of concern. "Thanks... You okay?" he asked.
"I'll be fine," the stallion replied gruffly, eyes still trained upon the area that his foe had escaped to. It was then that he realized that this horse... was talking to him. "Waaaaaait a minute," he said with shock, turning to face Onyx with wide, questioning eyes.
"What?" the mechanic said, taking a step back with confusion.
"You just talked... And I understood you," the Kirin exclaimed, pulling his head back in no attempt to conceal a sense of alien fear and confusion.
"Nonetheless, thanks again for saving me," Onyx said with a nod.
"Not a problem... More or less wasn't intentional though. That thing killed the only beings that I could call family," the Kirin growled before sitting on his haunches and scratching his ear with the comical appearance of a dog. "What should I call you, anyway?"
"Onyx," the stallion obliged. "Yourself?"
"Bastidon... Some stupid name that the humans gave me," Bastidon replied before brief, sudden dizziness washed over him.
"Humans?" Onyx said, lifting a brow at the word. Needless to say, he'd never heard the word before and desired more information.
"Yeah... Humans," the Kirin stallion said as though it was obvious. Onyx looked at him with a blank expression. Bastidon rolled his eyes. "Never mind," he grumbled, rolling his eyes before rising to his hooves to walk away. "Nice meeting you... Maybe we'll meet again," Bastidon said.
"WHOA, whoa, whoa... Hold it! You're hurt. I can't just let you walk off into the woods like some BatMane character or something," Onyx explained.
"I'll be fine... Had worse," Bastidon replied, shaking his head.
"Well... At least let me get you patched up before you head back out."
"Alright."
-Minutes Later-
"Oh my goodness I thought I might lose you!" Scarlet Blitz exclaimed as Onyx reentered the house, wrapping him in her arms and kissing his forehead. It was then that she noticed that he had been followed by a heavily built Kirin stallion. "Uuh... Onyx? Baby? Who is this?" she asked skeptically, lifting a brow.
"His name is Bastidon... He's hurt and needs something to cover his back while it heals," her husband replied before kissing her back.
"While what hea-GOOD GRACIOUS!!" the pegasus exclaimed at the amount of blood that had stained much of the fur on Bastidon's back. "What happened?!" Scarlet asked, leading the newcomer to the sink and turning on the faucet. With that, she watered down a washcloth and gently pressed it to Bastidon's wound.
The Kirin stallion winced and gritted his teeth as Onyx replied; "He saved my life from an attacking unicorn."
"Attacking?" Scarlet repeated, throwing him a questioning glance.
Just as Onyx opened his mouth to speak, the groggy form of Obsidian walked into the kitchen. His eyes grew wide at the blood for a fleeting second before he swung around to return to his room.
Onyx rolled his eyes and stifled a laugh before haphazardly emptying the shotgun in his hoof and nonchalantly placing it onto the dinner table.
Scarlet shot him a glare and nodded at the weapon before returning to tending Bastidon's wounds. The stallion sighed with a smile and returned the gun to his bedroom, returning to the kitchen with an empty coffee cup at hoof. "So, Bastidon, where you from?" he heard the pegasus ask as he pulled an old coffee filter out of the machine and tossed it into a trash can.
"I don't know," the stallion replied thoughtfully, wincing as Scarlet pressed a wad of gauze against his wounds.
"You don't know?" Onyx said as he replaced the old filter and dumped a mound of coffee grounds into said filter. He looked over at Bastidon quizzically as he poured a pot of water into a vent on the top of the coffee machine. On cue, the aroma of mountain roast filled the air in the kitchen.
"You know, your blood is probably made of that stuff," Scarlet scoffed. Onyx merely smiled.
"No," the Kirin said at last. "I don't remember where I came from. All I can remember is the humans looking in at me," he shrugged.
"Well. Then it sounds like you could use our aid... If there's anything else that we can do to help... we would be honored to," Scarlet said as she finished patching the injury. "And that about does it."
"Uh... sure," Bastidon said.
"Why don't you spend the night? Help you get yer bearings and all," Onyx suggested, stirring a couple tea-spoons of sugar into his coffee.
"I guess. Might be helpful," he acknowledged, stepping away from Scarlet and yawning.
