My Little Pony: Dinosaurs Are Magic
Chapter Five: The Way the Cookie Crumbles

Owen Grady looked up curiously at the swirling vortex that thundered overhead, sucking up the debris that came off of buildings struck during the Indominus and Tyrannosaurus Rex's short lived battle. The Velociraptor trainer had watched as the two titans were pulled into the vortex, a flash having been emitted from its core as the two had entered. "What the Hell?" he muttered as Claire Dearing came up beside him and joined Owen in his musings.
"What is it?" she questioned, turning to look at Owen with a confused expression before transitioning her gaze back up.
"I don't know," Owen acknowledged, furrowing a brow as he stared up at the strangely colored cloud. Looking down at feeling his feet not having to support as much weight, the Jurassic World employee noticed himself being lifted off of the ground. "Uh, Claire?" he started, dropping his rifle in surprise.
Looking up, Claire noticed her co-worker being airlifted. "OWEN!" she exclaimed, jumping up and grabbing his foot as he levitated up. Yanking down with all of the might that she was physically able, Claire only succeeded in joining his levitation, a panicked scream audible as the two hovered up towards the vortex of light.
Before either were able to react, they had entered the cone of light and disappeared with a flash of light and rumble like thunder.
-Canterlot Archives-
Unicorn Wizard sat on his haunches with a sigh as his current companion, Star Swirl the Bearded, scanned the vast shelves of Canterlot's Archives. Despair was beginning to take hold of the synapsid's mind as the hours bore on without any sign of the book that the duo was currently looking for.
Star Swirl must have sensed this disappointed air about the unicorn, for he turned to face the stallion with a look of slight concern etched across his wrinkled face. "I understand your worry," the old wizard assured his friend, approaching Unicorn Wizard and patting his shoulder. "We will find it eventually. These things just take time, alright?" Star Swirl said with soft smile.
Unicorn Wizard looked to the stallion and forced a slight smile to his face. "I can only hope that we find a way for me to get home sooner than later," he muttered through a deep exhale.
"We will," Star Swirl acknowledged before a glow formed upon the tip of his horn and a slight wince came upon his face, eliciting a concerned expression from his fellow wizard.
"Master Swirl?" Unicorn Wizard queried, lifting a brow.
The grey unicorn merely waved a hoof whilst rubbing the base of his horn with a hoof in the hopes of ebbing away an incoming headache. "I'll be alright. It happens when something-" Star Swirl trailed off and jerked his head up, ears flicking to attention. "Tell me, were you around anypony else when you were transported to this place?" he asked suddenly.
The former Dimetrodon cocked a brow asymmetrically, confusion evident as he spoke. "Not that I can recall, why?"
He received his answer in the form of a loud crash and pained shout, a loud bang echoing through the library as a flash of light momentarily blinded the two unicorn stallions. Looking to the direction of the noise and now diminished light, Unicorn Wizard moved towards said area, led by Star Swirl.
The two were shocked to see a pair of ponies sprawled across the floor, one a red maned unicorn mare dressed in a grit covered white outfit and the other an earth stallion with a bit of stubble upon his face, a grey vest, and sky blue t-shirt.
The bookshelves that had been around them were now toppled over, the books spread out messily as the two stallions looked down at them in clearly visible confusion.
Noting the fact that the mare had a horn, Star Swirl surmised that the two probably just had a magic mishap. Reaching down to feel her horn, the wizard was shocked to find that there was no heat coming off of it as he would've expected from somepony who'd used magic recently. Looking over at Unicorn Wizard, Star Swirl noticed a thoughtful expression coming across his face. "Master Wizard?"
"I feel like I know these two," the jagged-horned stallion acknowledged.
"How? I thought you weren't from here?" Star Swirl inquired.
"Neither are they," he answered. "I saw these two during the evacuation that occurred at home when a big white dinosaur broke from her enclosure," Unicorn Wizard explained. "I could see them from my paddock," he went on to say. "The two got onto some sort of vehicle and drove away."
His companion was beginning to grow all the more curious as he heard Unicorn Wizard's explanation. "You mean to tell me that these two are from Isla Nublar... like you? I wonder how they got here," Star Swirl said, stroking his beard deep in thought.
It was then that the unicorn mare began to stir back into consciousness, a low groan slithering from her throat as she put a hoof to her forehead. "Urg, what happened?" she muttered with a grimace before noticing the two horses standing before her. Her eyes popped out wide as a bright purple and pink unicorn with a beard waved at her hesitantly. "Uh... O-Owen?" she spluttered, rapidly tapping the earth stallion's shoulder.
"You needn't be afraid, Miss," Star Swirl assured the mare with a bow, only receiving a shocked scream as she picked up a book and hurled it at him. Star Swirl jerked aside, a frown coming upon his face. "Excuse me, Madame! That tome was nearly two thousand years old!" he barked as she rapidly backed away from him.
"Why are you talking?!" was all she could get out.
"Begging your pardon?" the wizard queried whilst lifting a brow and squinting at her. "My name is Star Swirl, this is my compatriot Unicorn Wizard," he explained, gesturing towards the synapsid.
It was then that the unicorn mare looked down and noticed that the being she'd tried to wake was also a horse. Though still in shock, she paused in her attempts to escape at noticing the all too familiar, oil stained vest and shirt that he wore. "What the Hell?" she gasped, looking down at herself and noticing hooves instead of hands. "What happened to me?" the unicorn asked, stumbling forward and looking up at the two. "What did you do?!" the mare spluttered.
"Us? Nothing, it was neither of us that caused your transformation, Unicorn Wizard here was from Isla Nublar, as well," Star Swirl explained.
"What? I don't remember seeing you in the Control Room," she exclaimed, pointing at the stallion in question.
Unicorn Wizard rolled his eyes. "You wouldn't... Because I'm not a human. I was a Dimetrodon in my former state," he told her matter-of-factly.
"What, you mean one of the assets?" she questioned.
Star Swirl cocked a brow at the statement before Unicorn Wizard answered her question.
"Asset? No, I'm a living, breathing thing just like you are and resent being spoken of as though I'm some kind of number on a spreadsheet," he barked.
-Canterlot Dungeon-
Rexy's thoughts were behaving like an obnoxious raincloud, all jumbled, but not ceasing to exist or diminish in the slightest. She wasn't one to dwell on the circumstances of her birth, even for a dinosaur from Isla Nublar. It was just something that didn't concern her. Why should it? She wasn't unhappy in Jurassic Park, she didn't particularly regret anything she'd ever done in the past... It was following her conversation with Obsidian that the oversized unicorn mare found herself lost in thought. Rexy furrowed a brow at the unpleasant thoughts. Was bloodshed and fear all she ever brought upon others?
As she entertained the thoughts, Rexy became dimly aware of a distant thud in the background. Lifting her head and unconsciously flicking her ears to attention, the tyrannosaur's nostrils flared as she tried in vain to sense the cause of the sound. Rexy tried for another moment to capture any sent, but the air of Canterlot's dungeon was stale and motionless.
Reacquainting her chin with the concrete floor, Rexy closed her eyes, ears still swiveling back and forth in an attempt to pick up any other sounds that might be emitted. A sigh slithered from her nose that was visible in the movement of her ribs as her thoughts wandered. When no sounds were to be heard in the air, the saurian mare's breathing became more smooth as she slipped into a light sleep.
-Canterlot Archives-
"H-how could this happen?! I-I saw that strange cloud, but it shouldn't've turned me into a horse!" Claire Dearing rambled, pacing back and forth with her cheeks flushed and hoof to her forehead. "I can't believe this is happening," the unicorn choked.
Star Swirl and Unicorn Wizard exchanged awkward glances before the former moved towards her. "Miss Dearing, please. There is no need to get worked up over this... I'm sure we can find a way for you to get home," he assured her, lifting a hoof in an attempt to calm the panicked mare.
It was in this moment that the trio noticed the fact that the earth stallion, which had practically been forgotten about, had begun to stir, a low groan escaping his throat. Grimacing, the stallion smacked his lips together as he came to, exhaling deeply as he sat up.
Noticing this, Claire turned to face him and dropped to her knees before him. "Owen!" she choked, placing a hoof on the pony's shoulder and shaking him slightly.
Looking up at the 'aggressor' said stallion was clearly shocked to hear his co-worker's voice coming out of an equine with a red mane. "What the Hell?!" he hollered, surprising Claire as he leapt up and away from her, his former state of exhaustion having been rapidly torn away by the maraud of knowledge entering his brain at once. "What the Hell are you?!" the earth stallion shouted.
Claire stood back up with a concerned expression. "Owen, it's me, Claire!" she exclaimed, a hoof to her chest as the duo of unicorn stallions watched on in slight amusement.
Owen Grady stopped freaking out long enough to notice that the unicorn wore a dirt covered, white suit, her orange mane was cut in an all too familiar way to the Velociraptor trainer as he looked over her form. "Claire?" he queried, wearing a cockeyed expression upon his face. "What... What happened?"
"I dunno, something about that funny looking cloud we entered last night," Claire explained with her own confused air, shaking her head.
Owen looked down at his own body and if he could've he would have reeled away from it in shock. "The fff-"
Claire wore a worried expression upon her face as she looked Owen in the eye. "Are you alright?" she questioned.
"Y-yeah... I feel faint is all," the stallion spluttered, leaning against a bookshelf and putting a hoof to his forehead. "Claire," he coughed, desperately beginning to scan his surroundings for any windows or doorways to an open area so that he could have a breath of fresh air to clear his head. "I think I'm freaking out."
It was in this moment that Star Swirl lunged forward to help steady the shaking stallion. "Put your head between your knees," the unicorn ordered sternly.
Upon hearing the words, Owen pulled away slightly and promptly stood straight up. "Nope." With that, he fell to the tile floor stiff as a board, having fainted with the shock of the information he'd yet to process. A dull thud echoed out as his body made contact with the tiles, surprise coming across both Star Swirl, and Dearing's face.
"Oh my gosh! Owen!" Claire exclaimed, dropping down and propping the earth stallion up slightly.
"Um... Is he alright?" Unicorn Wizard finally spoke.
-Canterlot Dining Hall-
The heavily built kirin looked down at his dish with a slight smile upon his face at the assortment of greens that were scattered upon it. The eggs and pancakes, as they'd been called, that had been provided to him by Onyx's family were good, but nothing beat a dish of fresh vegetables. Combined with the fact that Bastidon was unable to go as long without feeding in a smaller form, the sight was more than welcome to the Ankylosaurus.
Lifting the fork placed meticulously beside the plate, Bastidon fiddled with it in slight curiosity and some alienation before stabbing at the salad with the utensil and lifting it to his now beakless lips. Taking a bite, the stallion ushered a content sigh as he chewed the food, a smile upon his face that the mare across from him shared.
"How's the food?" Princess Celestia queried, forking her own salad with Princess Luna sitting next to her.
"I haven't had a fresh salad for two days now... It's very good," Bastidon said through a mouthful of food.
Celestia nodded with a smile before an off-thought crossed her mind. Noticing the bandage that was upon her guest's spinal column, the celestial alicorn thought back to when she'd seen the kirin and Rexy in the same room. She'd never seen such violence between two beings for decades now and was curious as to why things happened the way that they did. "I appreciate that you do not behave as recklessly as your carnivorous friend, Rexy, was it?" she said.
Slightly confused as to Celestia's wording, the kirin spoke. "That's her name... Buuut I wouldn't call her friend. Being a T. Rex, she has no friends," Bastidon snorted slightly. "Come to think of it, far as I know, T. Rexes live alone," he said thoughtfully, lifting an elephant-like hoof to his chin in his musings.
"And what about you?" Luna added with slight skepticism in her tone. After having nearly been attacked by a dinosaur from an alien planet, the lunar demigoddess was lacking in trust for any of the newcomers that might arrive. "Do you have any friends?"
Bastidon dipped his head slightly. "I used to have three... Until some monster murdered one of 'em," he said sullenly.
"What monster?" Princess Celestia queried, furrowing a slightly saddened brow. Luna's expression also softened slightly upon hearing the words.
"I don't know... But it was white and had long arms," the ankylosaur acknowledged, anger growing on his tone. "I saw it earlier last night, and it looked like one of you," he growled.
Princess Luna's demeanor became uneasy as Bastidon leered up at the duo as though they were his enemy. "So you mean that it's here in Equestria?" Princess Celestia asked before her sister could do anything, diligently laying a wing across Luna's back for reassurance.
"If that's what this place is called," Bastidon shrugged, returning to a more manageable mood.
Luna sighed slightly before looking upon the kirin stallion's partially exposed hip and noticing what looked like a three leaf clover upon his hip, though it was a deep grey in color. Looking more closely, she could see that it more closely resembled a club from a deck of cards. "Bastidon, how did you come upon your name?" she queried, cocking a brow.
"I don't know... I heard humans say it and point at me... so I assumed that that was what they had decided to call me. Personally, I hate it," the former dinosaur grunted, taking in another mouthful of food.
Celestia and Luna exchanged glances, both of which were that of warmth. "Bastidon... How would you like a name change?" Princess Celestia asked with a kind smile.
Bastidon looked up with an almost disbelieving expression. "Really?" he asked, a slight smile coming upon his lips.
"Yes," Luna added. "How would you like to be called Shamrock?" she snickered, lifting her chin in a sense of slight pride.
"What does that mean?"
Celestia chuckled slightly. "A shamrock, also known as a clover, is a token of good fortune in some areas of Equestria. It is a type of plant that can grow either three, or four leaves. Four is considered good luck to some. Your Cutie-Mark, which resembles a clover for some reason, is the perfect inspiration for your name," she explained, nodding at his flank.
Bastidon looked to his hip as she spoke, indeed seeing three circles connected together by an odd triangle. "That looks like my tail," he exclaimed whilst furrowing a curios brow, lifting the clubbed appendage into the air slightly to reveal, more or less, the same look as the mark. The corners of his lips curled up slightly as he dropped his tail and looked back up at the princesses. "I like that name... Yes, my name is Shamrock, now," he declared, eliciting mutual smiles from the royal sisters.
"Well then, Shamrock... Welcome to-" Princess Celestia was cut off as a foursome of one mare and three stallions barged into the dining hall, one of the stallions unconscious and being levitated along by Star Swirl, who the alicorn recognized. He was trailed by a unicorn stallion with a jagged horn and an orange maned unicorn mare, neither of which she recognized.
"Your Majesties," Star Swirl said with a brief bow, worry etched upon his wrinkled face. "These three that I am with are not from Equestria... They came here with whom I was told was a Tyrannosaurus rex and something called an Indominus rex," the wizard explained.
Both royals were in shock and very much confused at the interruption up until the mention of a certain dinosaur in particular. "Did you just say, Tyrannosaurus?" Luna queried with a stern glare.
"I fail to see the relevance, but yes. Anyway, this is Unicorn Wizard, Miss Claire Dearing, and Mister Owen Grady," Star Swirl told the two, gesturing towards the trio behind him respectively.
Shamrock, who had turned in shock at the sudden noise and accidentally knocked over his dish with a misaimed swing of his tail (though nopony noticed at that time), cocked a brow at the mismatched group before beginning to recognize two of the beings that Star Swirl was with. "Hey, I know you," the kirin stallion exclaimed, pointing at Claire almost as if accusing her of something.
Looking to the heavily built pony, Claire squinted at him before noticing the uncanny resemblance to one of the dinosaurs that the Indominus had killed during her rampage. "You're one of those armored things," she noted, her eyes going wide at the realization.
Unicorn Wizard, who'd practically been forgotten in the current situation, stepped forward, deep in thought. "So... I know her, she knows you, but we don't know each other... WHAT PART OF THIS AM I MISSING?!!" he roared, chest heaving, limbs flailing, and eyes wide before he dropped back down onto his hooves. Unicorn Wizard's chest still heaved and his eyes were still wide, but he no longer defied physics and floated in the air whilst his limbs flailed wildly.
The others in the room looked at the unicorn stallion like he had three heads.
