2- Eating and an Injury

I woke up to something moving around next to me and I think that it’s just my dog moving under the covers. I reach my hand down and try to pet my dog but feel that I don’t have hands anymore. I open my eyes and bring my hand up to my face and see a red paw instead. My eyes snap open and I look at myself and memories of yesterday flash in my mind. I look down and see the filly sleeping peacefully with her head on me still. I yawned and the filly started to stir awake. She opens her eyes and looks around and yawns. She rubs the sleep out of her eyes and looks up at me. She backs away quickly with a scared look. What did nothing I say yesterday get to you? I thought to myself. I got up and stretched my legs and yawned, an idea popped into my head and I looked at the filly.

“How about we get to know each other a little better so you won’t be scared of me anymore?” I ask her hoping she’ll agree.

She’s hesitant at first but nods her head. “Uh may I know what your name is?” she asks me quietly and looks the other way.

I was about to say my name but remembered I can’t say my name here. “I uh don’t have a name.” I said simply.

“You don’t?” she asks with a confused look. “So you were never given a name?” she asks with her ears splayed back.

I shake my head and she looks saddened. “I don’t have one either. Can… can I give you one?” she asks me, and I nod my head.

“But only if I can give you one?” I ask her. For a second I could see her starting to smile, but doesn’t, she nods her head and I put a paw to my chin. “Hmm how about Azura?” I ask her.

She actually smiles and nods her head rapidly. “What about Shadow?” she asks.

“Hmm Shadow? I like it.” I said smiling at her, and she smiles again but then she looks saddened. “Alright Azura, tell me why that guy was hitting you yesterday?” I ask her. She looks down and is hesitant again.

“Well I did something bad and he… he punished me.” she said and I barely saw tears starting to form in the corner of her eyes.

“And what did you do that was bad?” I ask her with a hardened look.

“I broke something and my dad got angry and said that I was just a worthless life and should be ashamed to call me his daughter, then he took me outside and punished me.” she said starting to cry. I get up and walk over to her and sit down in front of her.

“Even though you did something like that it doesn’t give him the right to call you worthless or hurt you for something like that.” I said to her. I lift her head with a paw to look at me and see tears streaming down her face and onto the ground. “And if he was really your dad he wouldn’t have hit you or got angry at you for something as small as that.” I said to her.

“How do you know that?” she asks me.

“I just do.” I said to her. She wipes her eyes with her hooves and looks back at me.”can you explain to me why you two were living in the wood where predators could get you?” I ask her.

“Well it used to be my mom's house and when my mom and dad got married my dad moved in with her and had me but my mom died when she was having me.” she says looking back down at the ground. “I…” she tried to continue but heard a very loud grr. It wasn’t me so it must be… “Sorry I haven’t ate for a few days.” she says.

“You haven’t? Well then I suppose we should find someplace to eat.” I said standing up.

“Where are you going?” she asks me.

“To find a place to get something to eat for you.” I said starting to walk to the entrance of the cave. “Stay here. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” I said opening my wings. I got to the entrance of the cave and I looked back and saw her sitting there watching me. I flapped my wings and I flew out of the cave.

I flew high into the sky scanning the ground to find any houses or towns or something like that. I flew around for a few minutes before seeing a city or something on the… side… of the mountain. The fuck!? How the hell does that even work? I thought to myself. I flew down closer to the place and I now see a sign that says Canterlot and now I know that this place is a fucking castle on the side of a fucking mountain… great. I saw many ponies walking around, many with clothes on and others with none. Luckily no one saw me and I flew beside buildings and I saw what looks like a tower with an open window. I flew into it and landed softly and brought my wings back to my side.

I walk around the place and it looks like a freaking library and a home in one. I walked all around and this place had two floors the second floor had a huge glass window with many books with a bedroom on that floor a well and the first floor was basically a kitchen with even more books. All in all it was a freaking library and it was very dusty so it must be abandoned, mostly for the fact that there wasn’t any ponies in the building or any signs of them being here recently. I walk back upstairs and see an open book on a stand and I walk over to it and see what it is. It was opened to a page with a picture of a dark blue pony and had writing under the picture and the other age had a picture of six jewels and it looked odd. I looked under that picture and read the description and couldn’t believe what I was reading.

I was reading about the Elements of Harmony, it said something about the elements to be used to banish something or someone called Nightmare Moon a thousand years ago. I read the whole thing and I found what the Elements of Harmony are now, now I just need to find where they are and how to steal them. I remember why I was here and went back downstairs and looked in the cabinets for any food I could bring back. I didn’t find a single thing that was edible. I went back upstairs and flew out of the open window that I flew in from the roof and flew above the city. I flew over what seemed to be a castle and saw another opened window and I dived and flew straight towards the open window. I landed inside and I was in a dark bedroom. There were no lights on but thankfully I have night vision now. I walk towards the door that was on the opposite side of the room and use my mouth to pull it open a bit. I look through the opening with one eye and see that the next room is a hallway. I open it a bit more and poke my head out and I don’t see anyone around.

I walk out of the room and into the hallway, I quickly make my way down the hall and I stop at the end of the hall and look around the corner to see if anyone was coming. Once again the hall was empty and I run down it as silently as possible. A door is at the end of the hall and I run to it and stop at the door. I wait a few seconds to catch my breath and use my snout to push the door open slightly. I look inside and see that it’s a kitchen with nobody in it. “Where is everybody?” I wondered. I opened the door more and walked inside and used my back paw to close the door behind me.

I walk around and see pots and pans hanging up and cabinets for spices I’m guessing. There were already food made and set out. I looked around for any other way in here and I see window up above that’s closed. I fly up to the window and unlatch it, open it, and fly out of the window. I fly high up above the window and remember which part of the castle this window is at. I remember where the window is and I fly back over to the other side of the mountain where I left Azura in the cave. I fly into the cave and land inside, I walk to the back of the cave and find Azura lying there fast asleep. I nudge her softly with my snout and she groans in response.

“Get up. I found somewhere we can get something to eat.” I said to her. She sits up and rubs her eyes.

“Where?” she asks me.

“In a city on the other side of the mountain. Now get on my back and I’ll fly us there.” I said lowering myself to the ground so she could climb onto my back.

She looked at my back and back at me. “Can’t we walk there?” she asks.

“No, now get on. Besides it’ll be faster if I fly us there.” I said to her.

She climbs onto my back and wraps her hooves around my neck. “Ready?” I ask her. She nods her head and I walk back to the entrance. I open my wings slowly as to not knock Azura off, I flap my wings a few times so she can adjust herself so when I take off she doesn’t fall off. She’s finally ready and I flap my wings and I fly into the sky, I look back at Azura and see that she closed her eyes. I fly higher into the sky and break through the clouds and see the blue sky.

“Azura open your eyes and look at the view before you.” I said to her.

She slowly starts to open her eyes and finally opens them all the way and her jaw drops as she looks at the vast open sky. She looks around for a few seconds in astonishment and looks back at me.

“This is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.” she said to me. “Thank you for saving me.” she said tightening her grip around my neck in a hug.

“Don’t mention it.” I said to her looking in ahead again. I flap my wings hard and propel myself forward and soon we’re above Canterlot.

“What is that place?” Azura asks me.

“It’s Canterlot. See that open window down there.” I said pointing a paw at the window I opened up from the kitchen and she nods her head.

“Well that's where we’re going to get food.” I said to her. “Now hold on tight because I’m going to have to go fast in order for nobody to see us.” I said to her and she tightened her hold around my neck.

I pulled my wings close to me and dove straight towards the window. I landed inside and Azura hopped off of my back. “You okay Azura?” I ask her, and she looks back at me and nods her head. “Good now look around and eat whatever you’d like.” I said starting to walk off to my right.

“But isn’t this stealing?” she asks me.

I stop and look at her. “It’s only stealing if you’re caught. Oh and if anybody comes in hide and stay quiet.” I said looking in front of me and starting to walk again.

I walk up to one of the counters and look at the food that’s on it. I was easily taller than the counter so I don’t have to jump up on them. There were mostly just vegetarian dishes and I saw some desserts but I don’t think I could eat that as a wolf. Screw it I’m eating it, I see a cake and walk up to it and take a bite out of it. It was a vanilla cake with pink frosting with frosting decorations. It tasted amazing, better than anything I’ve ever tasted on Earth that’s for sure.

I looked back at where Azura was standing and she wasn’t there, I look around and see her just staring at a plate of something. I lick the icing off of my snout and walk over to her.

“Are you having trouble reaching that?” I ask her.

She nods her head without looking at me and I grab the plate in my mouth and put it on the floor next to Azura. She licks her lips and takes a bite out of whatever that was, it just looked like sliced vegetables put in a bowl with some seasoning on it. She pretty much devoured it and finished it in a few seconds.

I heard a door open and I look over and see a stallion wearing a chef's attire walking in.

“Azura hide in the cabinet and stay quiet.” I said crouching down. She climbed into a cabinet and I did the same and I left a crack to see if they would walk by. The hoofsteps keep getting closer before they stop right in front of me.

“Who’s been eating the food!? I bet somepony must be in here.” he said to himself.

I look out of the crack and see his back towards me and he was about to open the cabinet Azura was hiding in. I had to do something in order for him not to find us. Ah fuck it I’ll just have to distract him and then grab Azura and fly out of here. I silently walk out of the cabinet and I notice that I’m easily taller than this guy, I grab a pan and throw it to the other side of the room and it crashes to the ground making a loud clanging sound. he jerks his head towards the direction of the sound and he looks over at me. Oh fuck me.

I run straight towards him and run into his side using my head and he goes flying towards the spot where I threw the pan. he landed and I grabbed Azura out of the cabinet with my mouth and ran towards him again. I open my wings up and he cover his face with his hooves and I flap and take off into the air and I fly out of the window. I flap my wings as hard as I could and I dash off away from Canterlot and towards the cave. After a couple of minutes of flying I finally reach my cave and land inside but when I landed I put too much weight on my front right paw and it bent to the side and felt something pop out of place and I went tumbling towards the ground dropping Azura.

Why do I have this problem now of all times?

Azura got up and ran over to me. “Shadow are you alright?” she asked me with a worried look.

“I’m fine. Nngh, don’t worry about me.” I said trying to stand back up and I instantly fell back down.

“Let me look at it.” she said as she carefully took my paw in her hooves. She examined my leg and poked a few places on my leg and right where I think my ankle should be she poked it and I jerked back. “You must have sprained it.” she said with a saddened look now.

“Great. That’s just perfect.” I said trying to stand back up again but this time not using my front right leg. I stood up and wobbled a bit and I started to fall to my side but Azura got to my right and she stopped me from falling and I looked at her in shock and confusion.

“Come on I’ll help you walk to the back.” she said as he started to walk slowly. I tried to walk with just three legs with my right one off of the ground and let me tell you something, it was hard as fuck.

“Uh thank you.” I said to her. She looked at me and smiled and kept walking.

She helped me walk to the back of the cave and it took about 5 minutes just to walk back there. I laid down slowly and made sure I didn’t sit on my right paw.

“Now you’re going to have to stay off of that for a few days.” she said.

“How do you know about this stuff?” I ask her.

“Well when my dad went to get food every few days he would sometimes take me with him and when he it was my birthday he got me a book and I read it whenever I had time. So I guess I know a bit.” she said.

“Hmm well I suppose you're going to make me rest now?” I ask her with a smile.

“Mmhmm.” she said with a smile, and my smile dropped into a frown.

“Wait you’re actually going to make me?” I ask her and she nods.

“If you don’t get your rest it’ll take longer to heal.” she said.

“Fine, fine.” I said resting my head on my good leg. I closed my eyes and waited to fall asleep.

“Uh is it alright if I sleep next to you? So I don’t get cold again.” she said and I looked at her and she was looking at the ground drawing circles into the ground with a hoof.

You know I’m starting to like this kid. “Sure.” I said and I closed my eyes again and I felt Azura’s body touch mine and she settled into my warm fur and I started to fall asleep and I felt Azura’s soft breathing and then I instantly fell asleep with one last thought.

I’m starting to fall for this pony. Oh well at least it won’t happen with any others.
