The sky's were gray and hazy, thunder was rolling but it was not raining. US planes flew above ,armed with pay loads ready to soften up the German pony defenses on the sea wall of Omaha beach. The small U-Boat I was in ,was packed with sea sick well trained worried marines dogs ,ready to get out of that boat and take the beach. We were served some C-rations before we boarded the U-
boats,some ponies scarfed them down and now regretting that they did ,while some ponies didn't eat much. I was one of the marines that did not eat much. I was starving but it was better then puking my guts out. The sarge up front was chewing some gum and trying to put his M1 grand in a plastic sleeve to keep it from getting water and sand in it. Every one else including me did the same, except some ponies had M1A1 tompson and B.A.Rs so they had to use two sleeves. I was carrying a B.A.R (browning automatic rifles) The damned thing was heavy about 20 to 30 pounds, and not even counting the ammo for it. The U- boat I was in had about 15 to 20 ponies packed into it. If we took a hit directly for one of the German flake 88s, we'd all be down. I peaked my head over the edge of the U-boat were only my eyes and helmet showed. Out on the water was tons of more US u-boats filled with troops. The choppy waves tossed the boat and made me hit my head on the edge of the boat. Rainbow Dash leaned over to me and said with a grin "Try not kill your self before we get on that beach !" I look her and said back "I don't plan on it !" Rainbow Dash was always kinda short in high school but after that basic training, we were wiped into shape and we bulked up. I was in the back right of the U-Boat and Rainbow Dash was to my left In the other collum of troops. Behind Rainbow was the driver of the boat. The driver yelled "Check your weapons and ammo and God speed !" Every one started to mess with there equipment. Sarge up front yelled "Alright it's straight forward charge the beach as fast as you can and get through the kill zone and get to the sea wall, keep sand out of your weapons !" I called to Sarge and knotted my head, Sarge said "Come up here!" I taped Rainbow on the shoulder and we both got up to the front "Alright listen to these guys!" Yelled sarge. Rainbow stepped up and said "Repeat MountainJ !"
We all bowed our heads and I started "In god we trust" and the group repeated "in god we trust" I continued "we stand together" "we stand together" "hell may raise" "hell many raise" "but we stand tall" "but we stand tall" "forgive us lord" "forgive us lord" "live or die" "live or die" "we will be strong" "we will be strong" German 88s started to fire at us blowing U-boats and water in the air. All hell broke loose. I started to yell to boost the marines confidence"WE CANT BE BEAT!" "WE CANT BE BEAT!" "WE WILL FIGHT" "WE WILL FIGHT" "WE WILL WIN" WE WILL WIN" "WE ARE STRONG" WE ARE STRONG" the U-Boat ran ashore. I yelled as the ramp of the boat lowered "LETS GO GET THOSE BASTARDS!!!! Rainbow waved her hoof to move. And as the marines poured out the boat and screamed "OOOOOHHHHRRRRAAAAA!!!!!!!" As me and Rainbow ran out ,we automatically were greeted by MG fire. The mg rounds hammered the side of the boat and kicked up sand all around us. Before we were able to get ten steps away from the boat, a mortar round landed right in the middle of us, sending sand every were. All I can remember is hearing a faint voice yell out "CORPSMAN". I laid In the sand I could really move, my ears were ringing my back was killing me. I was afraid that I got hit by shrapnel but it turned out I landed on a big rock that was one of many that lined the beach from the water. "COME ON GET YOUR ASS UP WE NEED TO GET TO THE SEA WALL!!!!!!" I heard a marine yell that as she ran to pick up guys that were hiding scared behind tank stopper.
Tank stoppers are metal star like structures that are planted in the sand, their purpose was to dig into the forward belly of tanks that land on the beach, not that the deep sand patches weren't doing the job for them. The marine ran up to me, it was Applejack, one of the ponies I trained with. "MJ !" yelled AJ. She ran to me, I was already getting up and grab my B.A.R. To my surprise, the kruats were not firing on to me, because I was out in the open, either they thought I was dead or their main focus was on the marines that were getting close to the sea wall. AppleJack ran up to me and grabbed my helmet for me. She tossed it to me and said "LETS GET TO THE WALL!" Over the ringing of my ears and the continuous sound of gun fire and exsplosions I barely could hear what she said.
