A small stone, skipped across the water with a young drake sitting on the side of the lake.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid" Spike repeated to himself while the sound of an waterfall hit the pod, filling the area.
The young drake, sat on the grassy land with his feet in the water cooling off. With his tears hitting the pod, one by one.
A light breeze of air, blowing the leaf's off the tree's. With some landing in the water to softly float.
Spike open his now red eyes, to see a small yellow flower sitting next to him. The young drake plucked it from the ground and pulled off the petals.
"She doesn't love me. She doesn't love me again. Still doesn't love me. Oh what a big surprise she doesn't love me" Spike said, before he threw away the flower.
"Who doesn' love ya" a voice said, spooking Spike making him fall into the water.
Rising back to the land and shaking off the water. Spike raised his eyebrow seeing Applejack standing in front of him.
"How do you know where this place is?" Spike question the farmer.
"Well ma parents took me here when ah was a filly. Ahem been comin' here when ah need a break" Applejack answered before she lay on the ground.
"What 'bout ya, sugar cube? Why are ya here?" Applejack wondered
"Well I found this place after my first Winter Wrap Up in Ponyville. The place looked so beautiful in the winter so I kept coming back here when I had a hard time" Spike answered.
"Now what 'bout the girl who doesn' love ya? Wait don' answer that it Rarity isn' it" Applejack guessed causing Spike to nodded his head.
The county mare rolled her eyes at the drake sitting next to her.
"What happen?" Applejack asked
"Huh?"
"Ahem what to know what happen, ah can' help ya if ah don' know what wrong now" Applejack stated causing Spike to smile.
"Thank you" Spike said
"It no problem. Now start talkin'" Applejack said, making Spike wipe away a small tear.
"Alright. Well..." Spike began.
"Today the day" Spike said to himself. Standing in front of the mirror. Brushing his scales back and clicking his fingers.
A light giggle hit his ears, seeing Twilight standing there trying to hold in her laughter.
"Be careful Romero" Twilight said.causing Spike to stomp his foot.
"Look today is the day I tell Rarity. That I love her" Spike said puffing out his chest.
"Alright then good luck" Twilight said, causing Spike to roll his eyes.
"Please. I don't need luck. I got my dragon coolest on my side" Spike said causing Twilight to laugh even more at him.
"I'm going now. See ya Twilight" Spike said leaving the castle.
Spike walked though the small town of Ponyville with a spring in his step. He journey to Rarity's home the Carousel Boutique. Not too far just when he grabbed a quick bit to eat from Sugar Cube Corner.
Spike stopped on the door step of the Carousel Boutique, hearing voices arguing with each other.
Perfect! If I can save Rarity she fall in love with me. Then we'll live happily ever after. Spike thought to himself.
Without any knocking Spike entered the Carousel Boutique hearing "Yes" and "No" thrown around.
The yes belonged to Rarity but the no sounded like a stallion who Spike never heard before.
Spike enter the kitchen seeing Rarity and the unicorn stallion sitting at the dinning table.
"No Mind Magic" the stallion said
"Yes, times ten" Rarity said causing the unicorn to roll his eyes.
"Your a child. I hope you know that" the stallion said shaking his head.
"No I just know when to act normal" Rarity stated
"What's going on?" Spike question making the two unicorns to look at him.
"Oh Spikey darling this is Looker. I'm looking after him" Rarity explain causing Looker to stick his tongue out.
"Oh I thought you was dating him" Spike said letting out a sigh of relief.
"Well that true in a way we're working it out" Rarity said
Spike stepped back a bit feeling his heart brake on the spot before he ran out the Carousel Boutique. Hearing "Spikey" but not caring about anything, anymore.
"Now Rarity and Looker are most likely doing tons of romance things together" Spike finish
"Ya do know the only thin' those two did anythin' close to romance was gettin' pizza?" Applejack question to him
"It not fair! He's not right for Rarity. I am! That Looker jerk should just-" Spike said in a rage.
"Now that no way to talk 'bout another pony like that!" Applejack said, cutting him off.
"Yeah you're right. I'm just mad and heart broken" Spike said causing Applejack to bring him to a hug.
Spike felt his cheeks heat up with a blush before he lead his head on Applejack chest.
"It be alright sugar cube." Applejack said
"I wanted to take Rarity here because it just so beautiful. It would show that I was ready for a relationship with her. But now I think I was chasing after the wrong girl" Spike said, staring into the lake.
"Is it one of the crusaders. Ah think ya an' Apple Bloom or Scootaloo would be cute together. Sweetie Belle would be the last because ya know Rarity sister an' everythin'" Applejack said
"No. Sure they cute but I think I love you" Spike said causing Applejack to let go of him.
"What?" Applejack question, wondering if she heard him right.
"I think I love you" Spike repeated.
"No it doesn' work that way. Ya just heart broken ya don' really love me" Applejack try to explain to him.
"And what if I do? Just give me the one thing Rarity never did" Spike pleaded
"What that?" The county mare question
"A chance"
"Ah, ah can' ahem not the one for ya. Ahem too old ya just a kid why not Apple Bloom or some other filly?" Applejack wondered
"I don't know. But what if I did love you and you loved me, would you let age get in the way?" Spike asked her.
"Look ah ah like ya as ma friend nothin' more an' nothin' less. Ahem sorry but this would never happen" Applejack said
"But-" Spike started
"No but's. Ahem too old for ya ahem goin' ya need to clear ya head" Applejack said before she left Spike alone.
Applejack stormed though the farm of Sweet Apple Acres in a rage. Basely stomping her hoove an couple of times on the way over there.
"Gosh darn it Spike! Can' ya see ya just heart broken" Applejack said to herself before she notices her brother glare.
"It Spike he just found out that Rarity started datin' so now he thinks he loves me" Applejack explain.
"Eeyep" Big Mac said
"What!? Ah don' have feelin' for Spike he just too young!" Applejack reply back
"Nope" Big Mac said looking back to the path Applejack took.
"Go back, are ya nuts? Ah like Spike as an friend but not an coltfriend" Applejack stated.
"Eeyep"
"What do ah like 'bout him well he loyal, kind, willin' to help out. Heck his crush over Rarity made sure to prove that" Applejack said.
"Go" Big Mac said causing Applejack to sigh and run back.
There's no more avoidin' this is there? Applejack thinks to herself. Why was she trying to kid herself anyway?
So much for brutally honest, she'd thought telling herself a little lie to cover up the complicated mess it'd turned out to be would do her some good.
When would she learn that not even a lie told to herself would help anything?
"Spike" Applejack call out seeing the drake still sitting there by himself.
"Oh hi Applejack here make fun of me some more?" Spike question
"No look ahem sorry-" Applejack started
"No you're right. Just because I got my heart broken doesn't mean that I love the next mare I see" Spike said causing Applejack to sigh.
"Well ya never know if it love or not. Ya just have to take the ride just like everypony else" Applejack said before she sat next to him.
"But what if I lose again. I don't want to feel this pain again, Applejack?" Spike question
"Well ah can' help ya there. Ya never know when ya win or lose but better luck next time" Applejack said smiling at him.
"Yeah I guess so. I just wish I can just have the perfect mare for me" Spike said looking at his reflection.
He kept looking at his reflection in the water with Applejack's reflection smiling.
"Well ah might not love ya, but ah be willin' to give ya a date or two" Applejack said.
"Yeah I'll like that, say Applejack your not going to tell anypony that I said I love you to you?" Spike question causing Applejack to laugh.
"Don' worry Spike, but ahem not makin' ya live that down" Applejack said causing Spike to sigh.
"Oh great" Spike muttered making Applejack laugh.
