Day one.
Twilight was sitting in her crystal library reading a good book, beams of light reflecting off every surface inside the beautiful blue gemstone library. Spike wandered in through the door with a newspaper. "Hi Spike, how are you doing?"
"Ok I guess, you need to read the newspaper. I think our weekly "monster" has arrived early."
Twilight raised her head and looked at Spike. Spike scratched his head as he handed Twilight the newspaper. Apon opening it Twilight was met with the head liner being BRUTAL MURDER COMMITTED, LOCALS TRAUMATISED!
As Twilight's eyes rolled back and forth her smile disappeared. "Wow uh, ok Spike I can see why you wanted me to read this." Twilight put down the newspaper and looked at Spike who had a concerned face. "But I'm a princess, I'm not suppose to deal with this. The guards are."
"Well I uh..." Spike started to fiddle around with his claws as he spoke to Twilight. "I'm just concerned is all, the description of the body really put me on edge."
"Oh don't be, I'm sure the local guards have it under control."
"If you say so," Spike smiled and sat next to Twilight.
Day four
Sunlight shot through the windows into the large room. A large round blue table sat in the centre of the room. Princess Celestia sat at the table along with her sister Princess Luna, Princess Cadence, Shining Armour and Queen Chrysalis and her two guards. Princess Celestia was in a meeting at the moment between the seven ponies.
"We thank you for choosing to negotiate Ms. Chrysalis, it's a lot better then having to fight," said Celestia.
"One of my drones convinced me to give peace a chance, but after our last...meeting, I was sure that the moment I revealed myself you'd lock me in a dungeon," said Chrysalis.
"Here in Equestria, we value honesty," Shining Armour said sternly. Armour clearly wasn't happy with letting what happened at his wedding slide. He just stared at Chrysalis with an annoyed expression.
"I was just trying to feed my children," replied Chrysalis.
Armour ground/gritted his teeth a little. "You tried to use the happiest moment of my life as a foundation to take over the county you big head-"
"ENOUGH! we are here to negotiate peace, not make things worse!" shouted Luna.
"That escalated quickly, but thank you Luna," Cadence said. Chrysalis was annoyed to say the least, but for her it was expected.
"How can we make the relationship between your hive and Equestria better Ms. Chrysalis?" said Celestia.
Suddenly somepony knocked on the door. "Princess Celestia I need to talk to you!"
Celestia sighed and turned to the seated ponies. "I'll be back," Celestia got up from her chair and trotted to the door. Once she was on the other side one of her more standard guards met her.
"Sorry to interrupt your meeting but you need to look at this." the guard pulled out a file and opened it. Celestia Took the file and read it. "I see, there is a killer on the loose in Ponyvile," as Celestia read the file her eyes lit up with surprise and minor sadness. "And quite a gory one two."
"I'm afraid so and local guards have not been able to find any leads, let alone arrest this murderer. So far a mare and two stallions have fallen victim. Can you do anything about it?"
Celestia looked at the guard displeasingly. "Really? This is a job for local law enforcement. You'd interrupt peace negotiations just to have me go on a wild goose chase, when there are more suited ponies out there to do this?" Celestia sighed. "Tell dispatch to Increase the guard patrols and send in the detectives until the killer is caught."
A shot of guilt went through the guard's face. "Princess I...I'm sorry, but thank you, I'll send the word right away," the guard took the file and trotted off in the other direction.
"Back to the meeting," Celestia mumbled.
Day seven
Spike sat next to Twilight as she read the daily newspaper, both of them had depressed looks. Twilight was confident that law enforcement was able to apprehend the killer but now, her confidence had corroded by a few degrees. "Three victims in one night? And they were guards? This just gets worse and worse."
Spike leaned against Twilight's back. "And to think that a week ago everyone was happy, kinda hard to picture that now."
"I know, all the ponies who loved to go out at night are all suddenly...gone. Afraid to go out into Luna's gaze fearing that it might become their last night," Twilight closed the newspaper. She didn't know what to do. What if the killer comes for her or one of her friends next?
"I don't know about you Twilight but I could use some cheering up" Spike said while the last two words echoed across the room. The room began shaking a little. Suddenly, a bright pink ball shot out from the library door and ping-ponged all over the room like a rubber ball. It hit everything, book shelves, tables, book stacks and even a few candles though the candles did go out when they were knocked over.
The pink ball bounced off of the wall and headed straight for Spike. Spike covered his face with his arms but surprisingly, nothing hit him. When he put his arms down he found pinkie pie standing in front of him with a smile so big you could fit a watermelon slice inside. "Pinkie? what are you doing here?"
"You said you need cheering up! And I never ever ever EVER. Let a friend who needs a smile be left unattended! And I know the perfect thing for a baby dragon! CRYSTAL CAAAAAAKE!" Pinkie stabbed her hair with her hoof and pulled out a purple cake Spike's size that had gems sticking out the spongy inside.
"Where did you get that?" questioned Twilight.
"I baked it using gems from the Crystal Empire! I didn't have one before hoof so I baked this one as soon as I heard Spike! And I assure it's no lie!" Pinkie narrowed her eyes and looked to the side, staring into the crystal wall as if something was there. "Unlike some cakes."
Pinkie gave Spike the "crystal cake" while Twilight tried to decipher the answer Pinkie gave her. It was then she realised how much damage Pinkie's entry had done. "Pinkie, take a look around you and realise how much damaged you've just caused."
"Okie dokie lokie!"
Pinkie turned her head three hundred and sixty degrees. Suddenly, Pinkie's head retracted at break neck speed in the opposite direction, Pinkie gasped at the state of the library. "Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry pleeeeeaaaaasssssse forgive me!"
Twilight rolled her eyes then smiled. "Fine, but you need to help clean up."
"Yaaaaaaaay!"
That same day at Canterlot castle.
Princess Celestia was sitting in her throne relaxing as usual. It was nice to take a break every now and then, and with everything that's been going on, she deserved it. Besides, there was another meeting tomorrow. A guard in blue armour trotted up to Celestia. "Princess, your not going to like what I have to tell you."
Celestia got up from her seat and trotted down towards the guard. "What is it my subject?"
"The murderer is still out there. He's killed eight ponies so far and three of them were guards. We also still have no leads."
Celestia sighed. "So, despite all the guards. All the detectives...you have not caught this fiend."
"I'm sorry, but we do have a name or rather, a nick-name."
"And what would that be?"
"Jack the Ripper."
Celestia thought about it for a moment. "Jack the Ripper."
"Yes, and he or at least, we think it's a he. Shows no sign of stopping."
"Go, I have a letter to write."
Day six, night time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOqLmkpr9nw
Two guards, Armoured Star and Shielded Risk out on their evening patrol in the foggy moonlit streets of Ponyville. The thick fog covered their every direction, as if It's threatening to blind them. The empty dead quiet streets were devoid of life with no pony within sight or sound. The two guards were having a conversation to draw their focus away from the night which otherwise, feels cold, dangerous, intimidating and much more. "So what's happening on your end Risk?"
"Well, my wife's pregnant. She's due in about nine months."
"Congrats! I bet you and her had a real good time," a smug expression appeared on Star's face.
"Shut up, you know what. Why do always have to make fun of me?"
"I'm just trying to lighten the mood, this place can get creepy you know."
"I supposes your right."
"...Think we're going to find a body?"
"I hope not, I heard that when the constable saw one of the bodies for himself he nearly threw up, and from what I can tell. The constable's a tough pony."
"Damn," Star looked around and shivered. "...Something feels wrong, you know?"
"No I don't know what's wrong."
"Just, something doesn't feel right. And I don't know if it's because I'm so used to seeing a few ponies wandering around during the night and having a good time, or if it's that it's way to quiet."
"I see you point. I knocked on a door the other night and I heard the pony on the other side lock the door with what? three chain locks? I know there's a killer on the loose but come on, three locks?"
"Hay, they're just trying to protect their family."
"I guess you're right."
Star tried to think of another subject but it was as if the dense fog reached into his mind, clouding it. He had already exhausted all of the subjects he could think of, and that's when he noticed just how foggy it really was. "...This fog is really damn dense, you know."
Risk sighed before replying again. "Yes, I know. And just why is it so foggy? A week ago you could see just fine!"
"A mystery for both of us to solve th-"
An unpleasant coppery smell hit Armoured Star's nostrils. He held up his right forehoof in front of Risk. Shielded
Risk stopped next to him. "What is it?" He asked. Star looked around and saw where the smell was coming from, a nearby alley. "Follow me, and don't make a sound." The guards slowly trotted in single file towards the alley. As Star drew closer the stench got stronger. Fresh blood, and lots of it.
"I smell it too," whispered Risk. Risk didn't want this to happen. He was going to be a father soon, and now he's going to be questioned by every single detective in town once morning arrives. And further more, what was he about to bear witness to? A display of guts, gore and broken bones? A throat slit so wide open you could see the neck bones? Or something a wild animal would have left behind?
A flurry of thoughts raced through Star's mind too. Was it a ripper victim? Was it just smelly copper? And even then, what were they about to see? The Ripper himself? A wild animal? A ripped up corpse? Star needed to know. The guards peeked around the corner and what they saw, scared them. Their faces turned milky white, their jaws dropped to their knees, their eyes widening so much you'd think they would drop out their skull.
The grey ripped up corpse of a Pegasus guard lay in the yellow grass like a discarded toy, blood flowed profusely from the many slashes that engulfed his body. His underside had been cut open and the rope like intestines were spread all over the alley like decorations. His wings mangled and soaked in the crimson red river that flowed from his body.
The terrified guards saw how the rib cage had been roughly torn open and the mangled inner organs lay scattered and torn until they were barely recognizable. Some had even been put on display! A pool of blood slowly spread around the corpse.
Star froze in place for servile minutes. He bore witness to the act of gore he was presented with. He felt his stomach cringe and tighten, bile started rising from his throat. He was just about able to stop himself from vomiting in front of his friend, yet he was still paralysed in place.
Suddenly the noise of ropes colliding with each other hit him, but he didn't register it until a few seconds to late. Star turned and saw the unbelievable. Risk had been hung by the neck and was now hanging from the building beside the alley. His body grey and lifeless. "No," he mumbled.
Suddenly, a sharp pain came from the back of his neck. I'm sorry Risk, he thought. He could not move, he could breath, he could only hear. And the last words he herd were, "R.I.P yours truly, Jack the Ripper."
It was a normal day in Ponyvile, well, as normal as it can get. Twilight was sitting down in the library reading a good book as you and I would expect. The door to the library suddenly bursted open to reveal Spike running straight towards Twilight.
"Twilight!" he shouted. "A letter from princess Celest-" Spike was cut short when he suddenly vomited up a scroll. Spike tripped and slide across the crystal floor next to Twilight with the scroll in hand.
Twilight snickered, "Well thank you Spike, I wonder what the subject is this time?" Twilight took the scroll from Spike. Spike got up and sat next to Twilight as she opened the scroll with her magic.
"Dear princess Twilight, I'm sure that your aware of the murders being committed around you. The detective division, who are guards trained to solve crimes were brought in. You can tell a normal guard from a detective because the detectives wear dark blue armour instead of the plain gold of normal guards. But they have not been able to track down this "Jack the Ripper," so I would like you to help solve the case. Your more intelligent then most ponies I know so i believe you have what it takes. Talk to the constable at the town hall. He's the blue stallion in dark blue armour. And please Twilight, put this crazed killer to justice. Your mentor, princess Celestia."
Twilight closed the scroll and put it down. "Wow, this is really serious," said Spike. Twilight was nervous about this, sure she's done some brain work in the past with the scavenger hunt but a full on murder mystery? she didn't know if she could take this on. A flurry of emotions zipped through her. Fear, excitement, dread, joy, but most of all, uncertainty. She took a deep breath in.
"Aright Spike, I'm gonna solve this case. Wanna come?"
"Sure!"
Spike jumped onto Twilight's back and they set off to the town hall.
It was a foggy day in Ponyville, as it has been for the last week. The cold fog wasn't thick enough to blind you thanks to the sun. But it could still put on you on edge, aside from that it wasn't anything special.
Twilight trotted through the foggy streets of Ponyvile. Looking around, most ponies stayed in their homes, others did their daily jobs maintaining stalls, pulling carts while some were just trying to enjoy what peace there was. Unfortunately, the fact that everywhere you looked there was always at least one or two guards brings back the fact that there's a killer on the loose. Little to say, enjoying the peace was not an easy thing to do.
"Wow Spike, I've never seen ponyvile like this before. Given the amount of guards you'd think that everypony would feel secure."
"I know right? The Ripper must have really done a number on his victims."
Twilight's face changed from her casual smile to an uneven depression. "I know Spike."
Twilight passed an ally that some guards were guarding and on her way passed she saw a detective examining something on the ground, but she couldn't quite see what it was because of the guards though. Spike noticed and asked Twilight. "Has the Ripper done it again?" To which she replied "I don't know."
A few minutes later Twilight and Spike were at the town hall doors. Twilight placed her hoof on the door.
"Ready Spike?"
"Ready."
Twilight pushed the door open and to her surprize it was quite empty. A few guards, ponies and detectives were wondering around and talking to each other but other then that it was relatively quiet. Twilight entered and shut the door behind her, she began looking around the room for the detective she was supposed to meet. A few minutes later she found who she was looking for. A blue stallion in dark blue armour. As she approached the constable noticed her. "Princess Twilight, your here!" he said with a smile. "Follow me, I'll show you what we have so far."
"How does he know about us Twilight?" wisped Spike.
"He must have been told in advance."
Twilight followed the constable to a room with two guards at the doorway. The guards shifted out the way to let Twilight, spike, and the constable in. The room had a big bored on the wall with various photos, newspaper articles, files and notes on it. The constable turned to Twilight. "This is the evidence bored," he said. "For starters, what would you like to know."
"Tell me about the victims first"
"So far eight ponies, that being three guards, two mares and three stallions, have been killed by the Ripper. All of them had one, two or more organs removed and-" the constable pauses and turns his head, taking a deep breath in and out he turns back to Twilight. "Put on display. Sorry, anyway, the weird thing about the kills is that the victim's body is turned grey, like all the colour has been sucked out. All the kills were silent and evidence of a blade being used is present. Lacerations to the body and sometimes the groan region are also there. Guards are always found with a cut throat too."
"Ok, got it. What about witness accounts?"
"So far we have two accounts. Around the time of death of the forth victim a pony in a black long coat that covered the front and a cape that covered the back of the body with a top hat were scene around the crime scene. The witness was unable to see the pony's face or even see what the colour of the body was, Tail too. The body build was a little thicker then average but given that it was foggy that night you should sprinkle a bit salt on it. The second account is similar, black long coat and cape with a top hat."
"What do we know about the Ripper in general?"
"That he's smart enough to cover his tracks, a master of evasion and has a thing for gore. We believe he's a male based on how he was described and the nature of his nickname but we don't have anything solid. In fact we have very little to go on. He might be a unicorn, because how else can he use a blade?"
Twilight put her thinking face on and ponded for a bit. "I'll need more time to examine the evidence, can you make a copy of the bored and everything on it?"
"Of course!"
"Great, bring it to my castle when it's ready, good bye for now."
Twilight left the room with spike and headed down the hallway towards the door. After leaving the town hall she trotted back to her castle. She felt a sense of confidence as she trotted. Sure the Ripper might be smart but now he's going up against the book smart princess of friendship. Twilight has defeated powerful foes, fixed many problems and has went hoof to hoof with seemingly impossible odds. A serial killer has nothing on her. Or at least that's what went on in Twilight's mind as she entered her castle.
Spike jumped off Twilight's back When she entered the library. While Spike went off to do his own thing Twilight sat down to read that book she was reading when Spike barged in.
Twilight was sitting In her crystal library reading a book when Spike opened the door. He peeped his head out "Twilight! That evidence bored is here!" He said before closing the door. Twilight smiled and got up, as she trotted to the castle door she couldn't help but wonder what she was about to find out. Is this really just an insane pony? Or is there a bigger picture? For her first murder mystery this was exciting! Twilight arrived at the door to find that the bored was wrapped up and being guarded by a single guard. The guard saw Twilight and passed her the bored before closing the door without a word.
Twilight levitated the bored and trotted back to the library. Once inside she unwrapped it and hung it against the crystal blue wall. Documents such as autopsy reports, possible suspects and locations were pinned to the wall. "Where should I start Spike?"
"I don't know."
Twilight looked at some of the evidence closely. One of the first things she noticed was a picture of a pony in a black long coat that covered the front and a cape that covered the back of the body with a top hat. Must had been a depiction of what the Ripper looked like. Twilight put her thinking face on and started pondering. Unusual clothing for a pony in Ponyvile, ether he's from Canterlot or that was made by Rarity. Looks like I already have a lead.
Twilight smiled and turned to Spike. "Spike I'm going to Rarity's." Spike's face lit up with excitement.
"Can I come? can I come?"
"Sorry Spike but I'm only going to be there for a few minutes and this is serious!"
Spike sunk his head as his face turned from excited to plain old bummed out. "Oh man."
Twilight kneed towards Spike. "Don't worry Spike I'm only going to be gone for a few minutes."
Spike lifted his head a little and smiled. "Well, ok."
"Thank you Spike, but first I need to check the bored to see if I can find any more leads," Twilight said with a smile.
Twilight turned back to the bored and began examining it again. She picked up one of the victim files from the bored and started reading it. Let's see here. fifth victim, name's Red Rocket and he worked at the market place selling various tools. Nothing special. Initial death caused by deep cuts in the chest regain which lead to lots of internal bleeding. Wait...Oh my dear Celestia!
Victim was found hanging from a hang-mare's noose made of victim's own intestines!
Twilight paused for a moment and covered her mouth with her hoof. Her stomach cringed as she made up the scene, even if it was for a split second. Twilight felt as if she was about to vomit but she kept it back the best she can. When she caught her bearings she lowered her hoof and continued.
I *was** going to read though all the files but I think I'll just stick with this one. Anyway, it also says here that victim's coat and mane colour had turned to a dull grey when the body was found. According to the victim's friends and family he was meant to have a red coat and mane. Huh, the constable was right.*
Now that I think of it, could the Ripper be a vampire? No, no they aren't real. But considering how wacky my adventures can get it's not out of the question, and the Ripper's known to come out at night. But then how do I explain the loss of colour? I'll need to make a note.
Twilight closed the file and levitated a quill and paper. She made note of her theory and pinned it up on the bored. What else? Is there a pattern? Twilight sighed at her realisation. I'm going to have to read the rest of the reports, aren't I? Twilight picked up the report on Red Rocket and opened it. Here goes nothing.
After eight gory reports of ponies being killed that only a zombie-pony would enjoy. Twilight was just about ready to not only accept the fact she's going to have nightmares for the next few weeks, but she had concluded that the kills were random, both in location and in who the pony was. Yes the ponies may have been killed in similar ways but there was no real pattern. She gathered anything consistent and pieced it together.
Only to reveal that everything she got had already been pointed out to her by the constable. Sighing, she made way to Rarity's boutique.
