Inside a sitting room of the castle of friendship Twilight Sparkle sets down a silver tray stacked with a couple of cucumber sandwiches, some personally hoof-baked biscuits Twilight and her companion had made earlier that day when they had both complained of boredom. Alongside these articles their was also a purple tea pot with her Cutie-mark emblazoned on the side. The other entity in the room had previously made a joke about her princess status affecting her ego so she had been forced to explain that when the castle appeared it had come stocked like this.
Twilight set the tray down on the table and settled on the sofa beside her friend not close enough to lean against him but nearly there. She would like to be that close but was poked by two issued when she had considered it. How would he react, he was incredibly powerful after all. Twilight doubted a over-step of closeness would cause the Alicorn to literally destroy her existence but she didn't feel like testing it. Even if he didn't it would still be incredibly awkward is she leaned against her friend who didn't want such things. Secondly she didn't know much about her blue coated friend. These musings had Twilight completely unprepared for her Red main and tail endowed friend putting his for-hoof around her and easing her into his side. She didn't react as she was far to surprised and inwardly happy to do so.
"So what was it you wanted to ask me about Twi?" said her companion.
"I want to know your past, everything major that happened to you before you spend the century in hell and turned to legend." Twilights voice has the ring it generally adopted when Celestia was teaching her a new magical trick or showing her a new book.
"Urg such a boring tale really, had you not wondered why neither me or Celestia ever wrote it up?" As he said this he turned to her with an eerily Discordian grin.
"Nope, you aren't avoiding it. All Celestia has told me is that you are exactly as old as she is and have been pottering about since everything started." Twilights eyes and voice hardened braking her friend's usually unwavering confidence.
"Typical of her, palm it off onto me. Wonder how she will next set you about enquiring." He sounded irritated and defeated but not massively so. Still it twanged the empathetic strings of Twilights everlasting heart. She was about to interject that he need not tell her if it was a cause of pain for him but seemingly impassioned he started up again.
"Fine the entire abitchery of me is it. Should start at the ultimate beginning I suppose. How the hell do I explain the void to someone who hasn't seen it. Maybe Celestia gave the job to me because she is too prosaic to meet such a task. That or she assumed I am and wanted to make me squirm. Anyway enough tangent. Imagine having every sense cut of. That was the void. All I could see anywhere was an alabaster Alicorn who seemed just a lost as I was. It seemed the two of us where board with that and where not to happy only having the other to sense. So we changed it. Created a huge land about half of which is now Equestria. After landing and finding all of the plant life and the Sun and other such well beloved parts, Celestia and me turned to each other. For some reason we both felt a sudden build of anger and charged at one and other. I was knocked away and it became evident that this was a realm less favourable of me than it was of Celestia. So I decided to change all that. I turned half the land into a hell of my design. Fire and brimstone and all the standard fair that has made many a legend over the years. More interestingly I made myself a weapon. With that he nodded to Lucerne which was resting against the corner nearest the door. (It is from dark souls, look it up and imagine that with red metal.) I took back to the more peaceful side. Me and Celestia fought again. This time I had a balance of the world. Plus Lucerne, this put the fight in my favour and after a few clashes I managed to land a hit. I severed a feather from Celestia's Left wing. You know the one she is still missing. It is rather irritating is it not. (Not a thing in the show, just go with it.) " As if to illustrate his point, that feather equipped to be a quill appeared in Twilights lap. She took it with some fervour and examined it closely. "You see at the time her power and mine was a touch more volatile. That feather had two effects, it arched lightning in two directions. One split on a nearby rock into four parts creating Luna and the three tribes with a rough population of a thousand each. This is why Alicorns are the powers of the three and even then not a strong when just three are united. The other hit Lucerne. See that chip on the blade? This split into two creating discord and the army of hell born I still command." He allowed Twilight a few seconds to interject but she just kept looking curiously and He could see she was done digesting the information. "The second effect was that it drained every drop of magical energy me and Celestia had. This left the only real threat being Lucerne. Which was still in my hand. Celestia looked at me resigned to her fate. The new creatures to far away to help and she powerless to stop me. I decided, if my element was to be that of the hellish plain I had made. This plain would need a ruler. So I let up. Using what strength I had I split hell from Equestria and helped Celestia to her feet. With that she took the two of us off to where the Tribes seemed to have exhausted a few generations and had managed to build up some basic looking settlements. A few of them seemed to be working together. Celestia managed to fix time with the help of Luna and I managed to add some more creatures out side of the Ponies with the help of Discord. Well, beyond that the rest is history. Discord mostly sat around and I generally operated from the shadows advising the royal guards and refused to be documented to much. Consider me until the whole Nightmare moon situation where I took my leave of absence to hell. Popping up exactly a thousand years later outside your Castle." Twilight was processing the information and was lost in the idea that the powerful being the one she was lying on was never really denoted and simply advised army manoeuvres must have been a more complex process than he was letting on.
"Enough about such boring dusty old events." As he said this his face drew far nearer. This jolted Twilight out of her train of thought onto another far more regularly fantasised ones. "I have a much more interesting idea in mind and I want to see if you feel the same about something as I do."
The gap was closed between them as their lips joined together. The moment made both of them forget about what was irritatingly influential memories and new interesting facts depending on which of the pony's opinions you took. Twilight had forgotten all about the new information as something she had been wanting since the first few days after the blue coated Alicorns appearance outside her door. She found him intriguing due to the fact he seemed to have some serious magical ability but outside of throwing Rainbow Dash half way to Clouds-Dale when she had been an annoyance he refused to use magic most fillies couldn't do.
"I love you Mortem"
"And I you Twilight"
