Chapter 4: The Would Be Thief Wakes Up

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

“Hmmm.” I think as a stare at the frame of my current contraption, admittingly. Thinking about what material should be put in the frame.

“I could go with gems, though metal seems more conducive to this type of magic.” I say to myself as I gaze on the arch.

Oh, I should tell you what I’m trying to make shouldn’t I? Well, I am making a transuniversal portal, inspired by my completion of Aura’s body.

“I can enchant gems with neutral magic so that they naturally conduct Geth energies. But tungsten is naturally conductive to Geth energies, plus I can alloy it with titanium so that it’ll conduct both Geth and Teg energies. But once again, I can use enchanted blue diamonds and pink topazes which, while weaker, will be easier to use in this design.”

Have I ever mentioned that I talk out loud when I’m alone? People say that’s the first step to insanity, but the first step is expecting something to answer, but I digress.

“Hmmm, maybe something completely neutral to all Ender energies, but endstone can only be found in arid climates and are very rare even in the perfect environment.”

Ooooh, filler to get to the one-thousand, five-hundred word goal! And yes, I’m aware that there used to be a wall there. And don’t worry, there’s should be three others.

Anywho, Ender energies consist of five types; Geth or Space energies, Teg or Time energies, Hex or body energies, Xah(Z-ah for those who need it) or Mind energies, and Nexus or Soul energies. Now, different matter has different amounts of conductivity and different compatibilities with different energy types.

While it’s true that I, a Nexus user, Can only command Nexus energies, I can direct other energies via enchanting.

There’s also Draconic Spellcircles but… Those are weird even by pony magic standards. Though I’ll admit, they are logical.

So back on topic plus a summery, different matter has different compatibilities and may have more or less in ratio to the amount of the other energies it can hold. I think the formula is A=(4×(100÷a)). A equaling the resistance against the other four energies with a equaling the amount of resistance for the most compatible energy though this is for crystals.

Metals don’t have a formula. Unless you somehow turn into a gas without burning down everything around you that is. Then their compatibility with everything is 20-20-20-20-20.

Where was I? Oh yeah, figuring out what type of matter to use.

“I should definitely use some form o-... Wait.” I cut myself off when I thought of something.

“I wonder if I could use a mirror?” I would’ve delved deeper into that but Aura slammed the door open and I jumped in surprise.

“Why do you not have any guards?” This left me confused as we were in the Everfree plains, Though they could be hardly called that.

Completely covered in random pitfalls and huge revines somehow hidden till you were right on top of it, why would we need guards when no one wanted to even step into the place?

“Why do you ask Aura?” He then dumps a pony in front of me, a unicorn pony.

“Found him in the castle, thought he was a guard but seems that’s not the case.” Now this is worrying.

I took a good look at him, A light blue stallion with pure white hair. I couldn’t see his cutiemark as he was wearing armor, from what I see it’s mage armor. That would explain where Aura got the chakrams.

“I’ll contact Celestia and Luna, keep an eye on him while I send for them.” I then walk off in search for some paper, one of my more useful if not time consuming to make inventions.

I find the paper and a pointed charcoal stick and wrote them a message and sent it to the via my fire.

My fire is different then most dragons, as it send messages to whoever I want as long as I know their magic signature. I wonder if it’s hereditary?

Two teleport flashs later and two alicorns are now in the room with me, Aura, and the unicorn.

“Did you bring the rope I wanted?” I ask the two and Celestia nods and telekinetically hands me the rope. I then tie the rope hog style on the unicorn so that he’s on his back.

“Now,” I say, patting the unicorn’s legs. “To wai-” I started, but was interrupted when the unicorn stirred. “Never mind.” I deadpan.

I lightly slap the unicorn to get him to wake up. “Wakey-wakey little pony.”

He stirs again, this time opening his eyes… And promptly faints.

“Damn it, this is going to take longer than I thought.”

“Why not just put him in a cell?”

“I never put any in the plans for the castle.”

“Why would you not put a dungeon in the castle?”

“I guess you haven’t seen outside yet?”

“No….”

“Well, the Everfree plains aren’t really plains. They are really a collection of deep revines cleverly disguised as plains. If you’re not careful you’ll fall into such a revine without seeing it until you’re already falling. In fact, this unicorn probably had more ponies in his group but he’s the only one who was careful enough to keep from falling.” I state. Somewhat annoyed that even one got through.

“What should we do with him?” Luna asked “We cannot keep him tied up like this, it’s inequin!” I cringe for some reason when she said that, I don’t know why though.

“Well, some rooms in the castle lock from the outside and have no unlock mechanism installed on the inside of the door, we could use one of those.” Celestia suggests and I think for a moment.

“I’ll need to make some kind of enchantment on the lock or rather the room itself to make it so that, if he knows how, he cannot teleport or lockpick the door using magic.” I think outloud.

“I will go find such a room now.” Luna announces as she leaves my lab.

I hear a groan and look over to the unicorn. “Seems as though he’s waking up.”

“Indeed he is.” Celestia agrees as we both prepare our questions.

“Ow, my head. How long have I been out?” the unicorn groggily says.

“About one hour, give or take a few minute depending on if you want to add the time you fainted or not.” I reply and it looks almost as if he wishes to faint again. “And if you faint I will bite you-”

“GEN!” Celestia exclaims.

“What!?” I ask back. “I don’t want to be waiting in here for hours on end just to question a would be assassin and or thief!” I say, exasperated. “I hate being in my lab while doing nothing…” I sulkily add.
“Yes but we-”

“Where am I! What are you going to do to me!” the unicorn interrupts.

“Well at least he didn’t faint again.” I mumble.

“You are in the Everfree castle. As for what we-” Celestia starts but is interrupted again.

“I know I’m in the damn castle you wench! I meant where in the castle!”

At this point I’m right in his face and he blanches back at my sudden appearance. “Interrupt, one more time, and I will bite you. Understand?” I threaten him and he nods and affirmative. Satisfied I step back again, waiting for celestia to start again.

Celestia glares at me, to which I shrug, and continues “We are going to lock you in a room until you cooperate with us and tell us what you were doing in our castle. While we won’t treat you like you unicorns treat your captives, you won’t be getting royal treatment either.”

“I won’t tell you anything.” The unicorn says.

“My name is Gen, and this is Celestia. What’s your name?” I ask.

“Starswirl Sparkle.” He then realizes what he said and shuts his mouth with a click.

“Okay Starswirl, We just need to wait for Luna to get back and we’ll show you to your place of residence for the foreseeable future. Please, be courteous to the staff and don’t try and snub your food. If I hear you are, I will personally go there and force feed you it. We don’t need another corpse in the ravines.” After I see this Celestia hoofs me on the back of the head again.

“Stop that.”

“Stop what?”

“Stop threatening him, I know you just want us out of your lab so you can continue…” She looks over to my newest contraption “That…”

“Where’s Aura?” Celestia asks, to which I look around the lab to see that he’s gone.

“When did he leave…” I ask myself. I mean, it’s not like he, a being made of metal, can just get up and not make a sound.

At this point, Luna comes back and announces that she has found the room he will be staying in and says to follow her.

“Finally, I thought we’d never leave.” I gumble as we leave the room.

“Shush Gen.” Celestia ‘scolds’ me.

A few minutes later.

“So, all the enchantments are in place. I have my ‘perfect shields’ in place on every wall so he can’t get out without disrupting the circles. And-” I lock the door “-The door’s locked.”

“Isn’t that a bit overkill?” Aura asks from right behind me, making me jump and almost drop the key.

“GAH! Damn it Aura, don’t sneak up on me like that. How do you even do that anyways?”

“You’re absent minded.” Aura simply states.

“Gah, whatever. I need to get back to if I want to use glass or metal for my IUTD.”

“IUTD?”

“InterUniversal Travel Device.”
