In Need

By: Theo Winters

William bent down over the mare's neck, petting her thin mane and teasing his fingers through the short cut hair to the tan fur. The mare had come to a dead stop, her ears flicking to the side of her head as she danced sideways on the trail. She snorted softly, lowering her head and flicking her tail as she kicked her hooves at the ground.

"Now now, don't fidget Elizabeth," he said, whispering the words into her ear. It was a bit of a pain to lean over her neck from the saddle, but in the past it had helped to calm her. At the same time he brushed his hand along her neck.

The mare let out a frustrated cry and twisted her head, pulling at the rains held tightly in his hands. She rocked from side to side like she wanted to knock him off but also wasn't trying that hard to push him free.

Letting out a slight sigh he swung his leg over her back and slipped out of the saddle. Still holding the reins he moved to stand in front of the mare, stroking over her muzzle. Her dark eyes were looking at everything, her ears twisting around as she tried to search the forest. "What is it, do you smell something?" he asked, looking over his shoulder at the trees around them.

The mare snorted and shook her head, pulling sharply at the reins, this time yanking them out of his hands. He reached out and grabbed the edge of the bridle, trying to hold her still. He gently pulled her head down and stroked a hand over her long muzzle.

Elizabeth let out a low cry and danced to the side of the trail. He held tightly onto the bridle trying to keep her in place, trying to keep her safe. "What's gotten into you? You're never like this." he said, starting to get very worried. Whatever had spooked her wasn't in the forest, but he had no idea what it could have been. The mare had been a gift from his mother and while he really didn't know how to properly care for her, but he didn't want to see the tan colored equine hurt or in pain.

She bent her head down; her eyes were wide and wild looking. Her nose flared wide as she took in a breath of the forest air and then she let out a heavy cry. The mare twisted her head back, throwing herself sideways with enough for to pull the bridle out of his hands. He lunged to try and catch her but she bucked against the young man, knocking him to the ground as she danced all around him, her hooves coming very close to hitting his head.

A moment later she froze in place, straddling her rider for a few seconds before she let out a cry and rushed into the forest, her tail flying out behind her.

William sat on the ground, watching the mare vanishing between the tall trees. He sat there; stunned by the close call for a few seconds before he started to understand what had just happened. Struggling to his feet he started rushing after her, trying to keep the mare's wide rump in view. It was a hopeless chase and in moments she had simply vanished into the trees. She was gone, and so was the trail.

The young man sighed and came to a stop, resting against the trunk of a thick tree. There were places where her hooves had kicked up some dirt, but they were few and far between. He wasn't a tracker but he wasn't going to let that stop him.

"Damn it, Elizabeth, what has gotten into you?" He muttered as he tried to follow her tracks. At least he still had the time to try and find her, they had been sent out to deliver a message across the kingdom and he still had two weeks before it was due. He had the message on his belt but it was still a half a day's ride to the next village and he didn't want to be left out in the woods at night. That and all of his supplies were strapped onto the back of the mare.

He continued to follow along the hoof prints, not sure if they were even hers anymore. Here and there he saw a small tuft of white or tan fur, but he couldn't tell what sort of animal they had come from.

Finally the last of the hoof print vanished into the debris of the forest.

With a long sigh he cupped his hands together. "Elizabeth!" He bellowed as loudly as he could.

Silence fell over the forest for a few moments, and then in the distance he heard something that sounded like her whinny. He started running towards it, hoping that he was going in the right direction.

When William finally came to a stop he found himself among trees that looked the same as they had before. Of course they all looked the same to him and he couldn't see any sign of his mare or even the way he had come. He was lost in the deep woods.

"Elizabeth, where are you?" he asked, kicking at the dirt as he rested his head against the trunk of a tree.

Without warning a light whipped out from between the trees, leaving streaks of blue in the air, and started to circle around him. A soft chiming of bells seemed to fill the air, moving along with the spark of light.

He looked up and watched the light flying around him. He didn't dare move or even breath. He had no idea what this was, but he had heard stories of curses in the deep woods and how people who went into them never came back. He hadn't believed them before but this was enough to convince him otherwise.

The streaking light came to a stop in front of him and then rose up to hover level with his nose. He crossed his eyes and stared at the light as it resolved itself into the form of an attractive woman dressed in a tiny scrap of cloth that seemed to only to hang from her ample chest.

She looked at him and let out a giggle. "You're looking for the mare, aren't you?"

"Yes, is she alright?" he asked instantly forgetting what dangers her presence might bring.

"She is worried about you," the fairy said.

He blushed slightly. "I'm okay, I'm just a little lost."

The fairy looked at him for a moment then started to zip around him, hovering around his face to look him directly in the eyes. "You lie. Follow me, I will take you to her," she added then swirled around his head for a moment before flying off between the trees, quickly dodging around them.

William stood in place, watching her in with dull surprised. She stopped in place next to the trees and turned back, flashing at him a few times before diving back into the forest. He finally stated after her, the blue trail of light making her easy to find his way even as she flitted between the trees. He stayed as close to her as he could.

The forest grew darker as they pressed deeper into it. It made the fairy's blue glow stand out, lighting a path for him between the trees. The spaces between them grew fewer and thinner and soon he had to press his way past them.

He was starting to worry about how tight the trees were becoming when he finally pased out of them and into a large clearing at the edge of a lake. The water was glowing with the same blue light as the fairy, and reflecting off the trees circling it. Around the clearing were dozens more light, flicking and dancing around through the thick trees.

Elizabeth was standing at the water's edge, her tail was flicking in agitation and her ears were pressed back against her head. He rushed over to her, pushing past the fairies to hug the mare tightly around the neck. He stroked a hand over her neck and head, rubbing her ears. "Are you okay?" he asked softly, pressing his head to hers. He noticed that someone had taken off her bridle.

"She's in need," a new voice said next to his ear. It was a sweet voice, rolling over him like a warm summer rain. He shivered and looked over his shoulder. One of the fairy lights was brighter than anything else, glowing pink and red. In the middle of the glow was a foot tall figure of a beautiful woman dressed in a long flowing grown. Her large wings slowly fluttered behind her, a small smile on her small face.

William took a step back and looked at the woman. "Need?" he asked dumbly then shook his head to clear it. "Who are you, who are all of you?"

The fairy smiled. "I am the Queen and you are in my fairy circle."

"Oh," he said a shiver running through his back. Being in a fairy circle wasn't a good thing; they had power over everything inside of it.

"And the mare is in need," she added.

"Her name is Elizabeth."

The queen nodded her head as her smile grew even wider. "You care a great deal for her, and she cares for you," she said, motioning towards the mare.

He nodded, not sure what to say.

"She is at the peak of her cycle, which has been enhanced by the magic of the forest, she needs relief for it."

William looked at the fairy queen, unsure what to make of that. "Her cycle?"

She giggled and moved up a bit closer to him. "Yes, and she needs relief."

Not really understanding he turned back and looked at the mare, wishing he know better how to care for her instead of always leaving it to the stable hands. She was still jittery, shaking her head and dancing around in a circle. "What can I do to help?"

"You wish to help?"

"Of course, if there is anything I can do to help her I will. I don't want to see her like this anymore," he said as he stroked a hand along the mare's neck.

The queen giggled again and flitted around to hover over the mare's back "There is something you can do to help. You can provide that relief that she needs."

"Anything."

"That is the second time you've said that. It is a dangerous word to use in my domain. There is something you can do to help her, but it will take time; four, maybe six days."

William gulped and licked his lips. The fairy was right, 'anything' was a very dangerous word and he wasn't in a safe place to be using it, but he had to help Elizabeth. She was too important to him to leave her miserable. The time wouldn't be a problem, it would make it a close thing, but he would be able to deliver the message."Yes... I want to help her and I would do anything to do so."

"You care for her don't you?" The queen asked again, flitting up to hover in front of his face.

The young man nodded his head as he stroked a hand along her flank, trying to calm her down as she shook under his touch. "I do, she's important to me, very important. She's the last connection to my family, and I don't want anything bad to happen to her."

The queen paused for a moment then smiled a bit more. "Then yes, there is a way, if you're willing to do anything."

"Anything," he replied without any hesitation.

"Then remove your clothing."

He blinked in surprise and took a step back from the fairy queen. He thought about protesting for a few seconds but then decided against it. If it would help Elizabeth he was willing to do whatever was asked him, no matter how strange it was.

Taking a deep breath he pulled open the ties of his shirt, pulling his collar loose before pulling the shirt off of his head. He let it drop to the ground and started work off his boots off then quickly undid the laces of his pants. With a blush he pushed them off his legs and threw them on the pile. "How will his help her?" he asked standing up and covering himself with his hands.

"Because what she needs is a stallion and you will provide that for her," the queen said with a giggle.

"A... stallion?" he asked, looking at the queen again.

The fairies stared to fly around him, their trail of lights casting across the clearing and making his skin glow.

"Yes, a stallion! She needs a stallion to fill her need and as the only male here you will be her stallion," the queen said with glee then zipped forward and kissed him on the nose.

William stumbled back in surprise, brushing at the tip of his nose and feeling something rushing through his body. It was like someone had slowly pulled a feather down his back. He shivered, goose bumps rising all over his nude skin. Under his hands he could feel his penis start to twitch and swell in undue excitement.

He closed his eyes and let out a soft gasp. "This feels wrong," he whispered.

"Just relax," the queen said in his ear, coming to rest on his shoulder.
