The First Night

I couldn't help myself but just release the second chapter for two reasons:

  1. Many people have favorited this story, and I wanted to thank them and show how much it means to me by releasing the second chapter a day early.

  2. It's a short chapter, anyway.

Chapter Two

I was falling deeper and deeper into the darkness of the welcoming embrace of death.

I woke up with a start, gasping for air and covered in sweat. I looked around me to see I was still in Equestria.

Everything is fine, I told myself. I got out of bed and began to dress myself. When I finished, I took one last glance towards my makeshift bed. Above it lay Luna, sleeping soundly under the covers.

I smiled, knowing at least I was staying with my favorite pony.

I closed the door quietly behind me, and made my way around the castle. Think of it as a way to get the nightmare off of my mind.

I eventually reached a long hallway. I grabbed one of the lit nearby torch and made my way down the dark hallway. The castle creaked eerily as I made my way down.

I saw a faint shadow. It was a guard. Relaxing, I made sure I stayed a safe distance. He turned a corner, and I ran straight ahead to a large balcony. I separated the large stained glass doors and was greeted by a gust of cold wind. My torch went out and the only light was that from the full moon above me.

I threw the torch to the ground and went over to the edge of the balcony, resting my arms on the large stone barrier.

I heard foot steps behind me, and hid behind a large potted plant.

I saw Princess Luna emerge from the darkness. I poked my head out a bit more.

She turned her head towards me, but I quickly swung my head back towards plant.

“I know you're there. I heard you wake.”

I stayed there, behind the potted plant, waiting for Luna to make an incorrect assumption and leave. But she didn't, of course.

I removed myself from behind the plant, revealing myself.

“You don't have to hide yourself from me, you know.” Luna said.

I put my hand around my neck, “I just... had a nightmare. That's all.”

“What was it about?” Luna asked,

I sighed and rubbed my eyes, “I was drowning...”

Princess Luna walked up to me. She was the size of a fully grown mare, slightly bigger.

“Touch my mane. It will make you feel better.”

I looked at Luna slightly surprised, and slowly reached out my hand. My fingers made contact with Luna's mane. I instinctivly pulled back, her mane felt soft and cold like the night sky.

My hand made it's away towards Luna's mane. This time I summoned all my courage and felt it. A massive sense of relief flowed through my body, from my head to my toes.

“Feel better now?”

I nodded, smiling, “Yes... thank you.”

I still held onto the princess's mane. I felt a sudden urge and I threw myself onto Luna, ambushing her with a massive hug.

“Thank you, princess.” I said.

Luna wrapped her wings around me reassuringly, “Don't worry. We'll get you home... somehow.”

I smiled. Together me and the princess returned to her room. I settled down back into bed and stared at the ceiling. Memories of staying with my grandparents during Summer Break flowed through my head. I would always look up at the ceiling whenever I wasn't falling asleep at home... it was... odd.

But it made me feel better, somehow.
