Rarity Belle, Human Spirit of Generosity
A day in the life of the Human Element of Generosity.
Written and revised by FluttershyandDashie.
"Rarity? Aren't you late? You said you were supposed to leave to go to the mall soon." Sweetie Belle asked. We were sitting at the kitchen table, eating our breakfasts.
I shook my head. "Don't be silly, Sweetie Belle. I have plenty of time to eat breakfast."
"That's not what you told me. You said you had to leave at 11:00. It's 10 now." She said.
I laughed. "It couldn't possibly be that layyyHUUUUUUH!"
Sure enough, she was right. The watch I was wearing said it was 10:05.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked.
"I thought you knew." Sweetie Belle said, looking confused.
"Now I have to hurry to get ready!" I said. "Do you have any idea how long it'll take me?"
She was quiet for a few minutes. "Well, it normally takes an hour and thirty minutes to do your hair, and then thirty minutes to get dressed. Then I don't know how long to get your shoes on, and the same goes for your make-up." She said.
Riiiiiiiiing! Went my phone.
"Hang on, Sweetie Belle. I have to take this." I said.
"It's alright." She said.
I then put the phone up to my ear. "Hello?" I asked.
"Hey Rare. Are you ready yet?" A raspy voice said into the phone.
"I'm terribly sorry, but I'm afraid I lost track of time because SOMEBODY didn't tell me that I was running out of time." I said.
"Hey! It's not my fault!" Sweetie shouted in an unnecessarily loud tone in the background.
"Anyway, I'll go as fast as I possibly can without making myself look sloppy, I'll give you that much." I said.
"Okay fine. And by the way, we're all headed to your house." She said.
I gasped. "You- you didn't say anything about that!"
I heard her scoff through the phone. "Relax. We're at the gas station right now because Pinkie Pie had to... Actually, never mind. You don't want to know." Rainbow Dash said.
"Well, if I'm going to have any chance at getting ready before you arrive, I better get off the phone." I said.
"Arrivederci!" Pinkie Pie shouted.
"See ya!" Rainbow Dash said.
Then she hung up.
"Alright, I don't know how long I have, but I need to wash my hair and get dressed." I said, as I headed into the bathroom to get my shampoo and conditioner, and a towel.
"Rarity, I don't get it." Sweetie Belle said. "Why do you make such a big deal out of getting ready to go to the mall?"
"Wha-" I said, then I turned around to face my younger sister, who was sitting in her chair at the table, still eating breakfast. "I am a lady. And a lady takes pride in her appearance." I said.
"But I'm just a girl." Sweetie Belle said.
"Sweetie Belle, we both know that even childhood can't last forever." I said.
"I know Rarity." She said, as I put my head into the sink. This was the way I always washed my hair when I didn't need a bath, and in this case I had taken one yesterday. As for my hair, I hardly ever let it get dirty, so it only took one good shampooing and I was done.
"Rarity, can I ask you something?" Sweetie Belle asked.
I walked over to her and sat down in the chair next to her, wrapping up my now wet hair in the process. "Shoot." I said.
"What do you want me to shoot?" Sweetie Belle asked. "I don't have a dartboard, or darts. Or a bow and arrow. Or-"
I gently put my hand on her shoulder. "I didn't mean that literally." I said. "The way that I used "shoot" doesn't mean that I really want you to shoot something. It means like... "ask away." Do you understand now?" I asked.
She nodded. "Well, what I wanted to ask you was.... Do you think I'll be as pretty as you are one day?"
"Sweetie Belle, darling. You already are as pretty as I am, in your own way." I said.
"Really?" She asked. She didn't sound like she believed what I was telling her.
"Yes, of course." I said. "I may not be as honest as Applejack, but I would never lie to my sister."
And then we hugged.
These are the moments I enjoy the most. The ones I get to spend with my sister. Even the simplest ones. We may argue on occasion, but that doesn't mean we don't love each other. We are sisters, and-
"Hey Rarity! Open up! It's hot out here!" A muffled, yet raspy voice said. And that was accompanied by someone pounding on the door.
"Well, that's a way to disrupt a special moment." I said, as I walked over to the door. "I'll let them in."
"And while you do that, I'll refill my juice." Sweetie Belle said.
"Hurry up with that missy! You have to get ready to go, same as me." I said.
And then I finally reached the door, and the very second I opened it, all my friends came in. It seemed like they all wanted to be in the same place at the same time.
The last one to enter was Fluttershy, and she was followed by Spike.
"I didn't expect any of you to be here." I said. "Not yet anyway."
"Well I didn't plan on that originally, but then Angel bunny ran out of carrots, and I told the others, so they decided that it would be best if we left right away, and-" Fluttershy started, but she stopped talking when we all started staring at her.
"Um... never mind." She said, as she slowly backed away. And she did it so far to the point where she bumped into Rainbow Dash.
"Hey! Where's Applebloom and Scootaloo?" Sweetie Belle asked.
"They're in the car. They woulda came in with us but after the last time, we decided it wouldn't be a good idea." Applejack said.
Sweetie Belle slumped in her chair after she heard that.
But I agreed with Applejack this time. The last time Scootaloo was in here, she tried to "surf" on my kitchen table.
And then there was more pounding on the door.
"I'm hopin' that ain't Scootaloo." Applejack said, as she slowly walked towards the door.
But luckily it wasn't. Applebloom was standing there instead, and she was sweating her butt off.
"Applebloom! What the hay are you doin' not in the car?"
"Well, about that." Applebloom started, as she walked inside so Applejack could shut the door. "I was perfectly fine until Scootaloo started to get all sweaty. And then she started layin' on me, and that got me sweaty, so I had to come in here to get some water. But then again, now that I am in here, I don't wanna leave." She said, as she plopped down on the floor.
"Sis, can you please get off the floor?" Applejack asked. "Rarity really doesn't like sweaty people layin' on her fancy carpet."
I scoffed. "It is not wrong to have standards."
"Rarity, aren't you supposed to be getting ready?" Pinkie Pie asked.
"Ready?" I asked.
"Yes." She said. "We're going to the mall today, remember?"
It took a few minutes, and then it hit me. "THE MALL! I FORGOT ABOUT THE MALL! I HAVE TO GET DRESSED AND DO MY HAIR AND DO IT ALL ASAP!" I shouted as I ran up the stairs.
"Geez. She sure gets overly excited about every little thing." Rainbow said.
"It's Rarity. What would you expect?" I heard Applejack respond.
"Well, while we're waiting for her to get ready, does anyone want something to drink?" Rainbow asked. "Considering how hot it is outside, I don't think it would hurt if-" BANG! "OH SHIT MY TOES!" She shouted.
"Rainbow Dash!" I heard someone shout.
"Did ya just... curse in front of the little ones?" Applejack asked.
"I don't know! Maybe! But I'm NOT thinking about that right now! My toes... The fuck..."She said.
"It's alright, Rainbow Dash. Can you take your boot off?" Fluttershy asked.
"I don't think so..." She said.
That was right around the time when I wanted to see what was really going on downstairs.
"It sounded like there was a cat fight down here!" I said, as I walked down the stairs.
From what I could tell, there was a vase laying down on the floor, and Rainbow's foot was under it.
"Rarity, this is no time for makin' funny comments. We need to make sure Rainbow Dash is fine before we go anywhere."
"It doesn't feel fine, Applejack. It really hurts!" Rainbow said.
"Rainbow Dash, please take your boot off." Fluttershy repeated herself.
Rainbow Dash didn't do anything though. She was sitting on the floor, trying to hold her toes. However, she was clearly failing with that, because if she did it all the way it would have smashed her fingers too.
"Rainbow Dash, are you going to take the boot off?" Fluttershy asked.
"I can't do that until a certain farmer girl gets a stupid vase off my toes!" She said, and her eyes were right on Applejack.
"That vase is not stupid! It's beautiful!" I said.
"Rarity, can't you help me lift this heavy vase?" Applejack asked.
"I wouldn't say it's heavy either. I don't know if it's lightweight or not. When I bought it, the guy put it in my car and I don't remember how I got it inside. But I did none of the questionably heavy lifting." I said.
"Rarity! Stop talkin' about this boulder of a vase and help me lift it!" Applejack said, as she grunted.
"I can't see Boulder in here! It's waaay too dark!" Pinkie said.
"Get your head out of that vase Pinkie Pie. We're going to get it off of Rainbow Dash." I said, as I finally walked over to Applejack and crouched down next to her.
It almost took forever, but finally the vase was back to being right side up.
"Are you alright, Dash?"Applejack asked.
"I'm not sure." She said.
"Um... why don't you take your boot off like I've been saying all along?" Fluttershy asked.
"Are you sure that's what I really need?" Rainbow Dash asked.
"Can you please try?" Fluttershy asked.
"Fine, fine." Rainbow said.
She still didn't sound very sure of herself. But even so, she still slipped her boot off. And then the sock.
I couldn't believe what I saw after she got the boot off.
Her toes looked completely untouched.
"Do they still hurt?" Sunset asked.
Rainbow Dash shook her head. "It's the weirdest thing but... they feel like nothing happened at all." She said. "It must've been the boots that protected my toes so well."
"Well then, if you excuse me, I have to get dressed." I said, as I headed upstairs once more.
I can only hope that nothing bad happens while I'm busy.
"Hey, uh... Rarity?" Applejack asked from the other side of my bathroom door. "Are ya ready yet?"
"You aren't trying to rush beauty are you?" I asked.
"Geez, Rarity." Applejack said.
"And while you're here, I must thank you for not cursing in front of me or my sister." I said.
"Now Rarity. You can't blame Rainbow Dash for what happened. Cussin' when you get hurt is a natural response." Applejack said.
"I get where you're coming from, but was she really injured?" I asked.
"Rarity, I-" She started. "Are ya dressed yet?"
I looked down at myself. I had indeed gotten dressed, but I didn't want her coming inside yet.
"Are ya dressed yet or not?" Applejack repeated herself.
"Well, yes. But you can't just barge in like some-" I said, but by then she had already let herself in.
"Why did you do that??!" I asked.
"Because we've gotta talk. And this is the best place to do it." Applejack said.
