“Twilight, get out here already! I have stuff to do.”

Twilight peered out the window of her cottage and smiled as she saw Rainbow Dash awkwardly shaking her hoof. A yawn forced itself out of her muzzle, but that’s something she had grown accustomed to after what felt like a month without sleep. She didn’t mind though, not when she got to step out into her garden and feel a warmth grow in her chest. “Rainbow, just ask him to let go.”

Rainbow glared at Twilight for moment while lifting her hoof another inch or so, allowing the black vines around her hoof to show above the grass in the garden. “You don’t think I haven’t tried that?”

“Maybe he just takes after you a bit?” Twilight chuckled slightly as she slowly walked towards the patch of ground where the grass had flattened out. Tentla was still so small, only having hatched from his seed a month ago. Ever since, Twilight had made sure to have routine visitors from around Ponyville play come to the house. While at first the plant monster had shown signs of fear at the movement, it had obviously abandoned those notions by now. “You should be happy. He doesn’t cling to many ponies like that.”

Rainbow huffed out a large steam cloud as she looked Twilight right in the eyes. “Look, normally I would love an excuse to put off work, but you know I’m not good around your kid, especially when he gets clingy.”

Twilight nodded as she extended a hoof towards her little one. “I know Rainbow. I was simply trying to have some fun. However, Tentla, she is right too. You need to come off.”

At first, Rainbow winced as the vines only got tighter, before Twilight gently rubbed the beast’s core, and the grip loosened. Soon, the vines were surrounding Twilight’s hoof, and the proud mother nuzzled against one of them. Rainbow mimicked a gagging motion, before saluting Twilight as she started her way up. “I still don’t know how you put up with it, but it is pretty cute while you do it.”

Twilight laid down in the grass, smiling at the sky as she felt her little one’s grip slowly wrap along her forehoof. Looking down at the one she knew would one day protect all she cared for, even if it put that which she now loved as much as herself in danger, blossomed a joy she had a hard time describing within her chest. Instead, she merely did what she did every day, and gently pecked Tentla’s core, before whispering, “I know you’ll do good, just like your dad. You’re too amazing not to.”

And as always, a small chirp escaped the monster as his vines coiled tighter on his mom, and his core grew warmer.
