Fairy of Keys
Arrival
Load Full StoryThird Person - Outside the gates of cast
It was a bright sunny day outside the city of Cast, a new city home to the largest known concentration of displaced in all multiverses. The city still showed signs of being new, however the thrumming power in the air made it clear powerful beings called this place home, with a large tree peaking over the walls. A small fairy, with the form of a key chain made his way there.
As the Fairy floated in front of the gates to the city, he stood outside the large gate that as in front of him. With several ponies on guard in front, along with several creatures of indeterminable origins, though some of them seemed to be humans like the Fairy used to be.
"Ugh, may I come in" He asked one of the ponies, on guard. At least he thought they were guards, they didn't seem to be wearing any uniform, and some of their friends don't exactly look like ponies, as he had seen everywhere else.
"Oh, didn't see you there, you another Displaced?" The guard said, clearly having dealt with a similar situation before.
"What's a displaced?" The fairy responded confused.
"Displaced, capital D, yeah you want to head to the big building in the centre of town they can explain it a lot better than us," The guard responded.
"Okay," The fairy said before floating away.
Cast Guild Hall
The fairy floated into the Guild hall. It was a suprisingly simple building, with painted walls and portraits of thirty beings hanging there. A board with what appeared to be job requests was on the right side of the room, as well as a large oak desk with a white coated unicorn mare with a blue mane, going through some paperwork. A bell was on the desk.
The fairy floated up to the desk and went, "Ahem," the mare did not notice the little fairy, even as the fairy tried to get her attention again. In a last ditch attempt, the fairy floated on top of the bell and slammed himself into the bell. The bell went off with a loud ding, the secretary looked up as the bell flew into her face, from the shock of the slam.
After the mare had recovered from the bell being slammed into her face she said, "Oh hello, there my names Bluebell how can I help you today?"
The fairy gave its best really look, hard to do it with a very small body and a face with minimal features. "Are you sure you're okay, you just got hit in the face with a bell?" The fairy asked.
"Oh it happens all the time," She shrugged it off, "Any-ways, what is your name?"
"I've forgotten," The fairy admitted, "Given my form... How about Klefki Keyes, it's as good a name as any."
"Okay, mister Keyes, that's your registry done, I take it you want to hear about the Displaced not," The mare went on to talk about what the Displaced are, as well as how the displaced of this universe were sent here by one void dweller and how there is no way back. As well as how the Guild which controlled Cast are a group of displaced run by thirty powerful members, and dozens if not hundreds of significantly weaker associate members. "So that's the explanation out of the way, would you like to join the Guild?"
Keyes thought about it for a moment before responding, "Yes I would, however how would I make money, because I would need to pay for necessities right?" Keyes asked.
"Oops, silly me," Bluebell responded, "The economy of this world is the bit, you have your one bit, your two bit, your five bit, and your ten bit, most of the displaced here settle in the city and open businesses, to make money, though others take jobs from the job board, which involves doing certain jobs for a reward. These jobs can be posted for anyone as long as a reward is provided, we get jobs of all kinds, from search quests, to bounty hunts. It is up to you to choose which jobs you would like to accept if any. But if your looking for a steadier job, there are many openings, including trainers, a librarian, gatekeepers and spots in the guard. So just ask me if there is anything your interested in," The mare smiled looking back to her paperwork.
"Did you say librarian?" Keyes asked, "My vague memories show me as a scholar before so what would that entail?"
"Oh, the librarian job, yes that's available, our library has unique volumes not found elsewhere, most of the volumes are related to the different characters people get displaced as. Especially volumes related to their powers, along with those are many books of magic, although certain tomes are under careful guard due to their dangerous nature. If you want, just fill out this form and you're set," Bluebell said as she pulled out a couple of forms and a pen.
After a couple of minutes of fumbling around with the pen, Keyes filled out the form and handed it to Bluebelle. "Well now that that's out of the way, here are the keys to the library, the top floor is your apartment, and it's right next to the training grounds, you can't miss it," She said pushing the keys to Keyes.
Thanking the mare Keyes grabbed the keys and left the guild hall.
Outside the Redwood Library
"Well she wasn't kidding when she said you couldn't miss it," Keyes said out loud as he approached the massive tree he say as he had approached Cast.
The Library was a hollowed out redwood tree, approximately 200 meters tall, and 30 meters wide, the walls were lined with bookshelves all filled with manuals on powers, magic tomes or books on fictional earth characters. There was also a a spiral ramp going all the way to the top where there was a trapdoor, presumably leading to the apartment Bluebell mentioned. Fortunately, Keyes ability to float made navigation an ease as there was no handrail on the sides of the ramp, something that would have to be fixed, Keyes didn't want anyone falling to their doom now, did he?
As he floated to the centre of the library, Keyes could feel the beginning of an adventure.
