//-------------------------------------------------------// Adagio Everlasting -by emgrbu- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Adagio Everlasting //-------------------------------------------------------// Adagio Everlasting The last few hours were a blur. A blood pumping, sweating, moaning, sheet clenching blur. She had no idea how it started. She had no idea how it escalated. But she knew how it finished. Oh. Indeed, they did finish. It was definitely a moment to remember. Sunset Shimmer, wearing nothing but a thin shirt and undergarments, ran her fingers through her disheveled hair. With her face half buried into her pillow, she exhaled deeply with a dreamy smile. A shift in weight and a squeal from the mattress caused Sunset to open her bleary blue eyes and look up at the figure sitting on the edge of the bed. “Adagio?” Sunset murmured, her voice a little husky. Adagio Dazzle, almost fully dressed, finished fastening her belt around her waist and turned toward the fiery haired girl with a half lidded leer. “Oh,” She purred, “I do love the way you say my name.” “I…er…thank you?” Sunset tittered, sitting up on her arm with a lopsided grin adorning her face. Her eyes met Adagio’s wine colored ones and traveled across her fair yellow skin, framed by unending waves of golden locks. Almost instinctively, Sunset’s gaze slowly made its way down the crook of Adagio’s slender neck, past her shoulders and to the curves of her body. Adagio reached out, cupped Sunset’s amber cheek in her hand and tilted her chin upward. “Stop staring.” Adagio smirked, everything about her brimming poise. She let her fingers linger on Sunset’s skin before she withdrew her arm and started gathering her gigantic mass of hair into its usual hairband. “I know I look good.” Sunset blinked, her smile only growing as her gaze drifted back up. “This was… fun.” “It was wasn’t it? I thought I’d have to pace myself, but as it turns out,” Adagio glanced at her slyly, “you can keep up.” Sunset pursed her lips, blushing slightly. “That’s not mildly insulting,” She replied sarcastically. Sunset watched as Adagio strode across the room and picked up her lavender jacket off the floor, which was littered with other articles of clothing also strewn about from the day’s activities. Sunset sat up, freeing herself from the clutches of her covers, and swung her legs over the edge of the bed. “What are you doing?” “Although this was an interesting diversion,” Adagio said, slipping her arms into the sleeves. “I should go. But thank you.” “Go?” Sunset stood up off the bed and started walking toward the other woman that almost had her hand clutched around the doorknob. “Adagio, wait!” Adagio paused and turned back towards her. “What is it?” She asked, somewhat annoyed. “You’re just going to leave?” “Yeah. We’re done here. Why do you ask?” “I just… um…” Sunset bit her lip, feeling splotches of heat blossom across her cheeks. “What…was this exactly?” Adagio placed a hand on her hip, tilting her head. “What do you mean?” “You know, what did this…” Sunset waved her arms around the room, gesturing vaguely “… mean? “Simple. We were rutting.” Adagio replied bluntly as if the answer were obvious. Her lips cured down as she raised an eyebrow. “Wait… you’re not thinking of bringing feelings into this, are you?” They were quiet for a moment, just looking into each other’s eyes from across the room. Sunset shuffled her feet nervously. “I just want to know where we stand.” Adagio sighed, listening to Sunset’s feet softly pad around the floor. “Sweetheart. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t sign up for something so serious. …Did you?” Sunset found herself holding her breath as her heartbeat anxiously drummed in her chest when her eyes found Adagio’s. The Siren’s stare locked onto her, probing her in a way that lead Sunset to believe she would notice even the smallest of tics. “Well, no…but, I just… It was so…. passionate.” Sunset stuttered before continuing. “And, for a moment, I thought maybe there was…” She swallowed, self-consciously tucking a piece of stray hair behind her ear. Her face heated up more as she spoke, “…something there.” Adagio’s piercing stare softened a bit, seeing the other girl’s unease. “Don’t get me wrong, Sweetheart. I do enjoy your company; but feelings are not for everyone.” Adagio crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. “Not for me, anyway.” While biting her lip, Sunset shrugged. “They can be pretty persistent whether you like it or not.” “Well, I couldn’t care less. Even if I wanted to.” Sunset’s mouth was left slightly ajar. “Have you always treated this so casually?” Sunset asked, shaking her head in disbelief. Adagio lips curled into a knowing smile. “I could ask you the same thing concerning that wanna-be rocker boy.” “That’s not the same.” Sunset scoffed, holding the bridge of her nose while blushing profusely. “Flash and I never did… this!” Sunset took a breath to compose herself before speaking again. “Have you been with anyone ever?” Adagio let out another sigh. She stepped away from the door and lead Sunset to the edge of the bed, where they sat. “Several.” She said, leaning back, her elbows on the mattress. “But fewer than some may think.” “You would do these kinds of things with them?” Sunset leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees. “Yes.” “And you’ve never stayed with them?” “No”. Sunset’s brow furrowed. “But… being so intimate with someone-” “What I do is purely physical, sweetheart.” Adagio interjected. “I’ve learned never to get too involved with others”. Sunset gave her reclining friend an incredulous look. “Why?” “It’s difficult to love someone who won’t be around for long.” Sunset eyes widened as she looked up at the slender woman before her as if it were for the first time. Adagio had always been gorgeous, clever, and held herself with an air of grace and maturity… … But now she looked striking. Despite her casual appearance, Adagio’s ruby eyes were bright and seemed full of something beyond ordinary. There was intensity to her gaze that Sunset couldn’t quite put into words. Like she could stare into those eyes forever and never quite reach their depths. In contrast, Sunset felt exposed under her scrutiny, more than ever, as if Adagio could read into her very being. Sunset pulled her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her bare legs, becoming very aware as a draft wafted against them. “I’m sorry.” Sunset’s voice was almost a whisper. “Why? Don’t be. I get my fun and go.” Adagio sat up, crossing her legs nonchalantly. “Saves a lot of trouble in the long run.” Sunset cocked her head curiously. “What do you mean by that?” Adagio drummed her fingers against her knee. “It might be hard to comprehend, but my sisters and I have lived a long time. And I expect to keep doing so, even long after you’re gone.” “That doesn’t mean living without feelings is anyway to live.” “You’re not getting it.” Adagio’s tone sounded annoyed, but there was patience to it, as if she’s been asked these questions a thousand times. Sunset wouldn’t doubt it if that were the case. “The life we have, you can’t call living. Not in the same way you do, at least. We just… are.” Sunset’s brow furrowed. “I don’t know if I follow.” Adagio’s expression turned thoughtful as she stood up and walked toward the window. The sun had begun to fall on the horizon, coloring the sky indigo with tints of yellow and orange. The fading light streamed through the window of the small apartment bedroom, silhouetting Adagio against it. “The world grows and changes around us, but we’re… stuck. Time doesn’t exist for us. We live in the moment, constantly seeking pleasure and adoration because, honestly, that’s all we have.” “Honestly,” Sunset said, “that sounds like it would feel pretty… empty.” Adagio let out a low laugh, almost a snicker. “On the contrary, that’s only if there’s no excitement to be had.” “But would it really be bad to be with someone?” Sunset unfurled her legs and sat up a bit straighter. “Especially someone who understands you, even if it’s just for a short time?” “Sunset Shimmer.” Adagio’s voice sent a chill down Sunset’s spine. She turned from the window, looking her directly in the eye, a stern expression playing across her features. “It won’t work out between us, not the way you want it to.” Adagio walked over to the bed, rested her hand on the mattress and leaned down, looming over Sunset, who gripped the edge of the bed, and recoiled slightly. “A life as long as mine sees your life as insignificant. And as a mortal, your time is limited.” Sunset’s mind reeled from the penetrating gaze from the former siren and the feel of Adagio’s warm breath on her face as she spoke. “Every moment is special for you. You should have the opportunity to spend it with people who will actually grow and change along side you.” Adagio straightened up. She raised her hand to seemingly grasp something at her neck but stopped herself. Instead, she looked down with a sad smile at Sunset. “Don’t waste your life on a creature like me.“ “Adagio…” Sunset said quietly with a doleful expression. “Do you regret it now?” Adagio asked, her gaze downcast. “Honestly, I did not put into consideration the significance of this situation when we decided to proceed. And for that, I apologize.” “No. I appreciate your honesty.” Sunset said, holding her palms up forgivingly. She smiled, as she looked upon Adagio, once again in a new light. “And I think I know you a little bit better now. You’re a good friend, Adagio, in your own… outlandish way.” “Whoa slow down there.” Adagio smirked, playfully. “I'll have sex with you, but friendship is a serious commitment.” Sunset giggled pushing herself off the bed and Adagio turned back towards the door. “All right, I’m done talking, Sweet heart. Do we have an understanding?” “Yeah.” she nodded, “Like you said…we just lived in the moment…” Sunset pursed her lips. “But, what now? Do we just go back to the way things were?” Adagio stopped short of the door and shrugged. “You can do whatever you want.” Sunset rubbed the back of her head, her face flushing a bit. “Would you… want to do this again…?” Adagio blinked, her eyes widening at he question. With a grin, she walked back towards sunset and stepped into her space, almost chest-to-chest, with a half lidded gaze. “For future reference, you never have to ask that question.” Adagio’s alluring expression fell to one of concern. “But are you sure this is something you’d still have us do?” “Don’t worry. I understand now and I don’t mind. “ Sunset smiled sheepishly, her cheeks turning rosy. “You’re just extremely hot.” Adagio leaned forward, her lips brushing against Sunset’s ear. “You’re not going to fall in love with me, are you?” Adagio murmured. Sunset inhaled sharply as her breath tickling the sensitive skin there. “Who said anything about love?” Sunset said into the space separating their faces. “I just want your ass back in bed.” Quickly, Adagio wrapped her arm around her waist and drew her in, pressing their bodies together and producing a delighted gasp from Sunset. “Now you’re getting it.” She shoves Sunset onto the bed, grabs her by the shoulders and pines her against the sheets with a feral grin. And then, they lived in the moment once again... …And again several times after that moment. Author's Note Had this idea after watching the film Tuck Everlasting for the first time. It's not really my ship (so I wasn't as invested in the story) but immortality is an interesting topic to think about. Feel free to rip this apart. I'm not the best with dialogue and other things so constructive criticism is welcomed.
