Can you do something for me?
Adagio got up from her seat on the couch to answer the knocking at the door. There stood Sunset Shimmer looking nervous, this brought a smirk to Adagio's face.
"Well? Come on in Sunset Shimmer," Adagio turned side ways to let Sunset in.
Sunset paused at the entrance, not quite sure if she walking into a trap, however seeing the siren's impatient look caused Sunset to step past the threshold. The inside of the house was plain, something that caught Sunset off guard; a few paintings hung in the hallway, shoes and coats in the closet by the door. Sunset then took her shoes off and walked further into uncharted territory, though she had made friends with Sonata, she and her friends had never been over.
Adagio watched as Sunset walked down the hallway, she was amused by Sunset's reaction to her home; What did she think was in here? A million portraits of herself, if only. Adagio shook her head, she could get portraits later. Adagio began walking down the hallway, and turned left into the dining room. Taking a seat she cleared her throat loudly, causing Sunset to jump.
"Come sit next to me darling, I don't bite... Not unless I start taking a liking to you," Adagio teased Sunset.
Sunset walked over, and took a seat across from Adagio. They sat in silence for a few minutes before Adagio began speaking again.
"Sunset, it was never meant to be this way. I should have realized from the start that trying for equestrian magic was a bad idea, but I was blinded by greed. Look at us now, we're separated, I have trouble talking to my sisters now..." Adagio looked Sunset in the face, tears gathering the corner of her eyes.
Sunset was completely shocked, Adagio seemed to be reaching out, and she now had a chance to show her friendship. Sunset stared at Adagio gathering her thoughts.
"Adagio, it's okay. First tell me what's wrong," Sunset tried to comfort the much older girl.
Adagio was silent, reigning in her emotions. She looked at Sunset; the source of all her troubles, all the problems her sisters were facing. Though she knew Sunset was the only person she could confide in.
"You are what's wrong. Sunset, I hate you immensely... But I know you can help my sisters, I failed that duty, and every time I see their faces I'm reminded of my failure as an older sibling. Though I have kept one secret from them," Adagio paused and looked at Sunset, who looked uncomfortable. "We're dying..."
This revelation crushed Sunset, how could this be? The girls looked fine, nothing appeared wrong, they didn't look weaker.
"Sunset... I want you to keep this a secret between us, can you do that for me?" Adagio stared as Sunset.
"They need to know this right now Adagio, It's not right to keep this from them!" Sunset was upset that Adagio would even suggest to keep what she just told her a secret.
"Sunset, I failed to keep my sisters safe from outside dangers... This is the only thing I have left. I need you to understand, can you do that for me?" Adagio once again asked Sunset.
"Adagio... I can try, but I'm not making any promises, it's not right. Why tell me about this any way?" Sunset asked.
"I'm telling you because I've noticed it, our magic is still sustaining our bodies, for how long? I don't know. Months? A few years at least though... I hope. I want to keep them safe Sunset, but we're also ancient beings. I'm scared at the thought, could you imagine Sonata's reaction?" Adagio's eyes wandered around her environment.
"But you just said you're ancient, didn't you ever think about death before?" Sunset stared intently at Adagio.
Adagio shifted in her seat, looking at the table.
"Of course I've thought about my life, I knew it would end one day. Though I thought it would end along with creation, believe it or not, but we're still relatively young. I kept those two sheltered as best I could Sunset... Was it wrong of me?" Adagio asked.
"Maybe, but I never had eternity to think about my life, or the lives of others. I'm also not an older sibling, so I couldn't say. Though you need to tell them eventually Adagio, can you do that for me?" Sunset looked towards Adagio awaiting conformation.
"I'll try to, I don't want them to be scared though. What can I do Sunset?" Adagio spoke softly.
Sunset was at a loss for words, she didn't know how to comfort any one near death.
"I see, I don't know either Sunset..." Adagio sighed.
Adagio leaned onto the table, her elbows keeping her slouched over. Her mind was racing, why did she think this was a good idea? Well it was too late to take it back anyway. Well as long as Sunset was here, she might as well spill her fears to her, if only to comfort herself.
"I'm dying Sunset," Adagio said aloud.
"I know Adagio, and I'm trying to figure out a way to save you girls" Sunset raised an eyebrow at Adagio.
"I know that, but I mean—What I mean is that, I don't have as long as my little sisters. I'm telling you this so you won't be surprised, can you accept this?" Adagio looked Sunset in the eyes.
"Adagio. I'm having trouble accepting all of this information right now, and now you're telling me you're going to die sooner? How soon?" Sunset asked Adagio.
"I don't know how much longer... But I can feel it. I plan to be gone before my sisters know I'm going to be dead before them. In that time left I want you to do something for me, okay?" Adagio stared hopefully at Sunset.
Author's Note
I've been meaning to write something for along time, however writers block killed off my creativity... Until recently. I hope to become more pro-active.
I would like constructive criticism as I have become quite rusty with my grammar and such.
Aria... Sonata... I hope you don't hate me, who am I kidding of course you hate me. I'm a failure to you girls... But that's not the issue at hand, I have given this letter to Sunset Shimmer. I asked that this letter only be read by the two of you, after you do that... the letter is yours to keep, burn, or any other thing that comes to mind. I told Sunset in person, and now it seems unfair of me to tell in a letter. We're dying, plain and simple.
I've decided to leave because I can't stand the both of you. I feel so much better now that I'm gone, honestly. Sonata it's time to grow up, and you have to do it in the hardest way, can you accept your death?
Aria... You've always been stoic, what about now? Can you also accept that we're going to be gone soon?
The point is that with the little time we have left I suggest you guys do something worth while for once in your lives. This is why I left, I need to do something on my own.
And Sunset Shimmer, Thank you for delivering this letter.
Adagio wiped her tears from her eyes, she needed to keep the facade up for the letter, no matter how much it hurt.
'I hope you girls hate me... At this point it's what I'll take,' Adagio sighed.
Getting up from her position at the table, and securing the letter in an envelope, she walked over to the front door.
'Goodbye, I hope you come to understand why I left...' Adagio thought as she put her coat and shoes on.
The neighborhood Adagio and her sisters lived in was quiet, the houses that lined each side of the street were similar to each other. Adagio sighed and took off into the night, her mind in conflict about whether or not to turn back and keep every thing a secret.
'No I have to believe I made the right choice, right?' Adagio questioned herself.
Finally after two hours of walking Adagio found Sunsets' house. Taking the letter from her pocket she slipped the letter under Sunsets' door and walked off into the night once again.
'Well, if I have any regrets... it's too late to take it all back anyhow, I just need to get as far as I can. Those two are sure to send the RainHounds after me... It doesn't matter any more. If it did I think I would have tried to connect on a deeper level with Sonata and Aria...' Adagio's thought trailed off as she walked through a park.
Feeling tired from her long walk Adagio found a nearby bench and sat down. Looking up she saw a clear sky, the light of millions of stars to be seen. Adagio stared up in awe.
'Even with eternity I don't think I could have seen anything more beautiful,' Adagio was captivated by the night sky.
Adagio smiled wistfully, memories of the times she spent staring at the sky. Why didn't she do it more? Adagio could feel her heartbeat slowing, her breathing slowing down, and darkness started to fill her peripherals.
'It's not so bad, I just wish they were here with me......' Adagio's eyes finally closed, her thought trailing off into oblivion.
A breeze swept through the park, rustling the hair of it's sole inhabitant. Adagio's head was tilted up, a small smile adorned her peaceful features.
