Mass Destruction
Jungle Trek
Previous ChapterNext ChapterYour vision is blurry. A blinding light is still lingering behind your eyelids, preventing slumber.
You shoot open your eyes to see the wonderful mess that is your life at the moment. You are suspended upside in the ejection seat hanging from the parachute so kindly attached to said seat. You look up to see the parachute is tangled in the darkened and burned branches of the tree that had broken your fall.
You let your head fall back down and resume the upside down view you are oh so delighted about. You know with the whole blood rushing to your head and all.
You look down and see you are around 25 feet away from the ground. A fall from this position would not be ideal.
As you look around to adjust to your new surroundings, one thing strikes you odd in your heavily concussed head. You were never flying above a jungle. Speaking of flying, what happened. The trees in this jungle twist, and turn in unnatural ways. With vines creeping and crawling, almost alive, around the trees.
You have come to the conclusion you no longer enjoy this view and plan to get down. Your pilot suit is torn and battered. Your visor for your helmet is missing. And your headset is nowhere to be seen.
Hanging from your seat is your emergency equipment satchel. Tightly fastened to the arm of the seat. Stretching and reaching you are able to get a a hold of the bag. You tug on it to try to loosen it, but by doing this the satchel then tears a small hole and a whole assortment of medical and survival tools fall out.
"Fuck!" You curse under your breath as you struggle to undo the satchel and get whatever remains inside the bag.
Because of you straining to get a hold of the satchel the parachute above you lurches as a twisted branch falls and cuts your leg as it makes its descent below.
Now frustrated you wiggle the cursed bag more until the clip breaks and you dig inside to see what you are working with.
Inside the satchel is a standard combat knife, a bottle of water, dry food, powdered milk, and a can of what looks like Presidents Choice Beans and Pork Soup.
As you equip the knife and let the satchel fall with the rest of the equipment you decide how you are going to get down.
You start the slow and tiring job of cutting the somewhat thick cords. It takes around 3 minutes to cut through one with nonstop sawing. As you finish with the second on the seat lurches forward, breaking the cord you were almost done cutting suddenly. Due to the momentum you are now swinging back and forth upright.
You begin to unbuckle the massive vest of seat belts on you. Once down, you begin to immediately grab the cord for balance as you stand on the seat.
"Holy shit this is high" You say to yourself.
You ponder a way down and it suddenly dawns to you that you either have to, A) Climb the cord and get to the tree and shimmy your way down. Or B) Make a rope out of the belts and buckles from the seat and see if you can drop from the end of it.
Yeah fuck that. I don't trust my 1 and a half years of boy scouts knot lessons that much.
You begin the slow ascent and descent up the cord and down the tree.
When your feet hit the jungle floor you hear a set of explosions go off east of you.
Gathering the fallen medical supplies and safely store them in the ripped satchel, you begin your run towards the set of explosions. What the fuck have you gotten yourself into.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You near the near a large cloud of dark smoke in the air. Presuming this is the source of the explosion.
Breaking through the bushes of the jungle, you enter a burned, and destroyed clearing. There resting at the end of a carved path dug into the mushy ground is your jet.
You try to think back to what happened but your mind instantly pushes the thoughts away.
In the distance breaking you from your thoughts you hear the sound of people.
"Fuck they found me" You say to yourself.
You instantly run to the jet in search of your gear. The jest is torn apart, the cockpit is leaning against a bent tree while the rest lays in the dirt.
Climbing into the cockpit you find your pistol with a clip of ammo. You grab a military grade backpack, and a vest.
Now running to the other end of the clearing, just in time as the voices get louder. You hear the screaming of a female soldier, not looking back you spray a round of ammunition in the opposite direction back into the clearing.
Not paying attention your foot is caught on a root and you fall. Conveniently enough the root was just positioned near a hill. All of the stuff you had grabbed from the cockpit, now flying everywhere as you start your messy descent down the hill. You roll, again and again. Never able to stop yourself or see where you are going.
You then get the feeling of weightlessness, and then to have that feeling taken away from you as you make the hardest impact against what feels to be stone.
Luckily you landed on your side, so your spine is hopefully undamaged, But your arm, not so much. A flaring pain is now searing up the side of your body as you lay on your most likely broken arm.
You roll onto your back, breathing heavily. To only now see the extent of your fall. You had fell roughly 22 meters down a steep hill. And located at the bottom of this steep hill is one of the most comforting things ever. A fucking cave.
Getting up and leaning against the wall of the cave, you adjust your eyes to the darkness of the rest of the cave. To only see in the corner of the cave, two bright green eyes staring at you.
Raising your gun with your other hand. You aim.
"W-who-who's there!" You yell shakily.
"I could ask you the same thing" An odd definitely feminine voice responds.
"I will shoot! Who are you!"
Then your gun is covered with a green aurora as it is thrown out of your hand and across the room.
H-h-h-ho-how?
"How dare you threaten your queen!" The voice responds, way more assertive and angry.
The set of eyes staring at you rises and makes its way out of the shadows of the cave. What you saw was what not what you were expecting the slightest.
Stood in front of you was a four legged fucking insect. Well to be more exact was a goddamn thing with insect like wings, a holed body, four legs, and horn, and a fanged mouth.
It looks at you as it makes its way towards you. The distance between you two now is a foot. Her eyes then become her center of attention. You stare at them deeply, admiring the beauty of them. You feel light and warm. At peace.
Yeah, now would be a good time to sleep. Sleep sounds good.
