The Ponyville Tornado

The sun rises over Ponyville on a normal morning. There is not a cloud in the sky as far as the eye can see. It's a quaint morning. But, 30 miles southwest of Ponyville, a dry line links up with a cold front and a occluded front. It does not take long before a small cloud forms on a plume of moisture preceding the occluded front. In approximately 5 minutes, this small Cumulus cloud has turned into a Cumulus Congestus cloud and starts dropping rain. The cloud moves at 15 MPH. The time is 10:25 A.M.

At 10:30 A.M., the storm is now a Cumulonimbus Calvus cloud and wind shear has caused a rotating horizontal column of air to start spinning. The updraft in the storm turns this rotating wind verticle and creates whats known as a mesocyclone. On RADAR screens at the Equestrian National Weather Service in Canterlot, the famous ridgeback hook echo forms and the NWS sends out a tornado warning for that particular storm.

Rainbow Dash and Applejack wake up to the sound of thunder and hail pounding on their window. They look outside and see the first sign of the real menace. A wall cloud. The NWS continues to broadcast warnings and yet, still, nopony heeds them. The time is 11:20 A.M.

The tornado starts as a slender, white cylindrical cone extending almost elegantly from the bottom of the wall cloud. It touches down 14 miles southwest of Ponyville in between Sweet Apple Acres and Ponyville and snakes its way down the main road. It steadily grows bigger as it dodges farm houses left and right. The time is 11:51 A.M.

At 12:15, it is 2 and one-half miles outside of Ponyville and is a raging F3. It is one-half of a mile in width. By this time, Twilight and Mayor Mare are busy trying to save their quaint little town. Their urges to get everypony out of Ponyville go totally unnoticed, even with the tornado looming on the horizon. Once they notice it is almost too late, the residents of Ponyville scramble for the basement of Ponyville town hall.

The tornado's mesocyclone has  been tremendously fed by a low level jet stream and has ramped from a 175 MPH F3 to a 289 MPH F5. The width has also grown, from one-half of a mile to a mile and a quarter.

The time is 12:25. The tornado is still a F5 and has now grown to a 2 mile wide monster. It has just entered Ponyville and is ripping up houses everywhere. The rotating wall of material basically disinegrates anything in its path. NWS meteorologists broadcast out Equestria's first tornado emergency at 12:30. The tornado tears apart Ponyville town hall and moves on to the Golden Oak Library, tearing it from its roots and hurling it somewhere in the distance. The time is 12:45 when the tornado exits the now leveled Ponyville. Past Ponyville, the storm encounters another low level jet stream that is laden with moisture and feeds the Storm even more. Its  winds greatly increase, becoming a 340 MPH 3 mile wide tornado at 1:15 P.M. and it still grows bigger, eventually becoming a 350 MPH 4 mile wide monster before the storm's energy does out. The dry line catches up to the storm and the tornado goes from a F5 to a F0 in a matter of minutes. The tornado lifts off the ground and the storm rains itself out 2 miles north of Canterlot. The great Ponyville tornado was Equestria's worst natural disaster. At its peak on RADAR, the tornado was at an F5 rating and had 350 MPH winds. Ponyville was declared a federal disaster area. 3 ponies died, 27 were injured.
