The first thing I feel as I open my eyes is the coldness of a floor pressed to my back. Standing up i take a look around and i notice im surrounded by shelves lined with though sands of books, some even looked ancient. Then a female voice echoes from somewhere above me, making me jump nearly out of my skin.
"Welcome young one, to my library." Looking up I spot a woman standing at the railing of a balcony above me.
"Who are you? Where am I?" To my surprise she starts laughing, not like an evil laugh... more like I just told a funny joke.
"Well to answer your first question... I can't tell you who I am yet until I've properly spoken to you about why you're here young one. As to your second question, I brought you to the world between worlds for the time being. My reasons will become clear to you soon." She didn't really answer my question but since she's the only one who knows what's going on right now I have no choice but to trust her and hope this is just one huge fever dream.
"Okay why don't you come down and explain a few things to me because I'm afraid I don't know the first thing about what's going on right now." At this she looks off to so unseen place with a vacant stare.
Once her focus come back to me she pulls away from the balcony and starts walking to a set of stairs I just noticed. When she reaches the bottom of them she turns to me and motions for me to follow.
Soon I find me self walking down a long corridor lined with countless stained glass windows depicting different heroes fighting the forces of evil or something, it seemed a bit strange to have things like this in a library of all place. It could have been a record of some other worlds history though so I didn't question it too much.
After about ten minutes of walking she turns into a door on the left side of the corridor. I enter the room behind her and find it's a room ones would find in an old style home, all that was in the room was a small table with a few chairs and a teapot with matching cups and saucers.
"So you intend to tell me over tea? I have to admit, even though I am not an avid tea drinker it seems fitting." Taking a seat opposite of the woman, she sits and starts pouring tea for the both of us.
"Now, the reason you are here... I should start by telling you how you came to be here in my library. To be perfectly blunt with you, I brought you here moments from death and healed you. However being so rose ro death like you were you have lost Josh of your personal memories like who you were and what your life was like before a little while ago. As for why I saved you from deaths door, I need your help with a problem I have. I am the overseer of several worlds including the one you previously called home, and one of them is currently in danger from an outside force. Do you know what a Lich is?" I just sat there to
Take in the fact that she said I was practically dead.
"Well... I do know what that is but, I don't know why you would think I could help you with something like that... I don't even know how I 'died' yet." By this point my brain was doing back flips I was so confused as to what was going on. I didn't have time to reflect on this however before she started to talk again.
"I know this is sudden... but I really need help with this, you see I'm not allowed to leave my library to interfere with any of the events that happen in the worlds I create. It was one of the rules in order to create them in the first place, however I can choose a champion to fight for me to protect them in my place. So I saved you in order to ask you to do this for me and help save my children from harm." I could tell by the way she was all but begging for my help that I didn't have much of a choice.
"The best I can do is try to help you out, I doubt I can do much but I have to try. One thing though, is there any way for me to get my old memories back? I would like to know who I use to be before all of this happened." She looked at me with relief etched onto her face.
"Giving your memories back is entirely withing my power, and is also a reasonable request. Though I must warn you that it won't be pleasant in the slightest." And with that she gets up and I following.leaving my now empty cup on the table as it was. Soon I find myself back in the hallway with the stained glass.
"So I take it that these depict past champions then?" I say while giving them a passing glance as I walk.
"That's correct young one. Although there are a few living still in the world you are going to, I feel they aren't prepared to take on a fully realised Lich King yet." She never once looked back to me while she answered my questions.
"So my job is to defeat it if they can't? I have no fighting ability so I doubt I could do something they can't." She finally looks back to where I'm walking behind her.
After about five minutes of walking she stops outside a wooden door and turns back to me. "Now I should warn you about this process, to get your memories back I have to force them into your head from the outside and it is quite painful."
Nodding my head I follow her into the room and find nothing but a padded chair in the center of the room. Without being told I knew I needed to sit in it and let her get started.
"Now once you have all your memories back I can tell you who I am so you have that to look forwards to." And with that she placed her hands on my head and closed her eyes.
After a couple of seconds of wondering when it would become painful I started... and it felt like someone was driving an ice pick into my skull. The pain went on uninterrupted for what felt like hours, then it suddenly stops. I sit in the chair barely conscious and reeling from the pain.
"Well you aren't in any condition to listen to me talk now, how about we continue this in the morning hm?" And with that she teleports my semi conscious body to I don't know where.
