[Prelude] Barbeque at the Lake
It was a nice sunny day. Even though it was really hot out today, it was tolerable due to the nice crisp winds that blow through your mane. The smell of hay burgers filled the air during this great afternoon.
Soarin was showing off a little by flying around above the cool lake, droplets of water splashing against his chest. It was a great way to keep him from overheating without completely soaking himself. Braeburn was sitting by the side of the lake, watching the pegasus zoom around in the sky above him. He wiped a bit of sweat off of his forehead and fixed his hat to block the sun out of his eyes. Big Mac was in charge of cooking the hay burgers. He tossed a patty into the air catching it pack on his spatula. He then flipped it onto the grill letting it sizzle. He spat out the spatula, it landed right onto the hook of the grill that held it. He smirked, knowing that his skills with a grill were getting better and better.
“How’re the burgers comin’, Mac?” Braeburn asked.
Big Mac smiled, indicating that they were almost ready.
“I can’t wait to get my grub on, dude!” Soarin called out as he soared over the grill.
Finally, the others showed up. Rainbow Dash was the first to sprint by. She was a tad ahead of the others, but it only took a few seconds before they showed up behind her. She immediately galloped and jumped into the cool lake. Applejack trotted over to her big brother, making sure he didn’t burn anything. Fluttershy put an umbrella into the soft sand and she went to lay down under it. Pinkie just bounced around excitedly before sitting with Fluttershy. Twilight sat by Braeburn and began to talk to him. Rarity was wearing a lovely sun hat with a sparkly bow on it. She trotted near the water, just to get her hooves wet. Spike took his beach ball and kicked it into the lake before swimming over to it. It was a great summer day to spend with friends.
“Ya know, Mac, if y’all want any help with them there burgers, jus’ call me.” Applejack commented to her brother.
He looked over to his sister and replied. “Eeyup.” He then continued tending to the grill.
“Alrighty now.” Applejack took her hat off before jumping into the lake.
She splashed Rainbow Dash with her canon ball. This made the rainbow maned pegasus groan before splashing her back. Applejack’s eyes narrowed before she returned the splash. Soon, an all-out splash war began between the two. The rest just watched and laughed. This was the third time a splash war happened this month alone. It was okay, because they all knew when this was over they’d be the best of friends all over again.
“Ready!” Big Mac yelled as he finished piling a large plate of hay burgers.
All of a sudden, the large table was filled with hungry ponies, and one dragon. Big Mac then passed plates to all of them and set the hay burgers down along with the rest of the sides. There were daisy fries, cole slaw, a salad, corn cobs, and lastly a massive apple pie for dessert. Pinkie slammed her face into her food, sucking up every last crumb. Rarity took her time making sure she didn’t make a mess, or be a pig like Pinkie. The rest of them were in between those two. Once they all finished eating, the sun began to set. So Twilight used her lantern spell to make the area illuminate slightly, though it still was dark enough to know it was the evening.
“Hey Brae bro,” Soarin started, walking over to his coltfriend. “I have a surprise for you.”
“Yeah?” Braeburn looked over to his lover.
“I got us these!” Soarin pulled out two train tickets. Their destination: Las Haygus.
“Wow, I’ve never been to Las Haygus before. When do we go?”
“Well the train leaves tomorrow night, and the train ride is about three hours.”
“Sounds good to me, let me just get my stuff ready.” He paused. “When we get home I mean.”
“Yeah, dude.” He gave Braeburn a quick kiss on the cheek.
“Shucks, you always treat me well.”
“That’s because I love you.” Soarin began to tease the yellow earth pony.
“Aw, I love ya too.” He replied, kissing Soarin back.
Throughout the night, the ponies had fun at the lake.
