The joys of parenting
Load Full Story"She's beautiful!" Shinning Armour said as he held his sleeping daughter. The small infant in his lap yawned as she opened her sea blue eyes. Shinning smiled and then looked at his wife, who had fallen asleep.
Flurry Heart smiled and then tried to get comfy. His daughter went back to sleep, melting his heart in the process. Her eyes shot open as did her mouth and she threw up a bunch of sticky white stuff all over him.
It had been two days scene princess Flurry Heart had been born and the young princess, plus her mom where home now in the Crystal Empire. This would be their first night back! Cadence looked into the crib where her daughter was trying to fall asleep. All the feeding was done for the day and it was time for bed.
"Good night my little angel!" Cadence bent down and kissed Flurry Heart's forehead, causing the baby alicorn to squeak with delight.
Cadence walked out of the nursery and into the joined bed room she and her husband would be sleeping in untill their daughter was older. She landed down next to her husband in the bed and he turned the lights off. They closed their eyes and prepared to sleep.
Monstrous cries filled the castle. The sounds seemed to be coming from the nursery, Cadence got up and slowly walked into the room. She picked up her daughter, flew a little into the air, and rocked the infant back and forth as she sang 'hush now quite now'
It was now 2 years since Princess Flurry Heart was born. She had already started levitating various objects. The filly was in her high chair and Cadence was feeding her some green beans. The two year old banged her hooves on the high chair table causing the bowl to fall and brake into pieces, green beans also littered the floor.
She proceeded to laugh. Cadence asked one of the maids to clean up for her so she could try another feeding method. As the Crystal pony cleaned up, Cadence gave her daughter a sippie cup full of juice.
"You have to try and not break stuff like that Flurry." Cadence smiled.
"Sowy mommie." Flurry Heart smiled sweetly, "I won do it again."
Cadence nodded and that was that, she left her daughter in the care of the maids for a bit while she got some rest. Once she returned Flurry Heart was sitting in the center of the room surround by pots, pans, food and several maids who where covered in Apple sause and cowering in a corner together, Flurry Heart was chewing on a spoon and levitating another spoon above her head.
Flurry Heart was now 4 and was talking almost perfectly! Her auntie Twilight and uncle Flash Sentry where visiting for the day. She was so exited that she used her large wings to guid her down stairs very fast.
"Hi auntie!" She said as she landed not very gracefully.
"Hi Flurry!" Twilight Sparkle said without looking up, she was instead rubbing her belly.
"What ya doing?" Flurry Heart asked with confusion.
"Twilight's pregnant dear." Cadence smiled at her daughter.
"What's Pregnant mean?" Flurry Heart
"It means that you'll be getting a cousin soon." Flash smiled as he rubbed his wife's stomach.
"Really?" She asked, "will it be a filly or a colt?"
"We haven't found out yet, it's too soon I'm only 6 months pregnant." Twilight smiled.
"Oh." Flurry Heart looked at her parents in awe, "can you both have another baby?"
"Well we would like to wait on that subject for a little longer, your still a baby yourself." Shinning Armour smiled awkwardly.
The young princess looked down, "ok."
The next week Flurry Heart no longer had her heart set on getting a new sibling! She wanted something else. She flew to her dad, her large wings blowing him backwards. He'd thought she would have grown into them by now, but she hadn't.
"Daddy, daddy, daddy!" She bounced up and down, "I gots ta ask you somethin!"
"Ok what is it?" He smiled.
"Can I have fire bird. like Celestia has?"
"A phoenix?" Shinning Armour asked.
"Yeah, one of those!"
"They're real hard to find sweetie." He rubbed the back of his head, "why not a puppy or something?"
"No, a fire bird!" She was determined to have one.
"But I-" Shinning Armour became.
His daughter sat on the ground, folded her hooves and held her breath. The filly's pinkish face slowly gave off a purple hue. She stared at him with her blue eyes in anger. He needed to do something.
"Ok fine!" He turned around to get somepony to find a phoenix.
Flurry Heart realised her breath and smiled victoriously.
Flurry Heart was now 5. She was going to celebrate her 5th birthday with her friends. But she didn't want to go down stairs. She didn't want to wear the party dress either.
"But you have to sweetie, it's your party!" The poor crystal pony who had to get her dressed up tried to smile without showing any fear.
"But it's ugly!" Flurry Heart wailed, "I don't want to go down stairs anyway!"
"But you'll look so lovely in it." The pony held the dress out to the princess.
"If you like it so much why don't you wear it!" Flurry Heart flew into the air, used her magic to levitate the dress and stuff the crystal pony into it.
Cadence could hear the shrieks from down stairs. She trotted up to Flurry's room, once she opened the door a frightening sight was layed out before her. The crystal pony was trying to get the small dress off while Flurry Heart was tying the lace ribbon around the back. The pony seemed out of breath and in pain.
"PRINCESS FLURRY HEART!" Cadence yelled.
Her daughter froze like a statue. Giving the crystal pony the change to escape. Once alone with her daughter in the room Cadence gave her a stern look.
"You will take a time out, your presents will be given back to the guests and you will NOT have a birthday party today."
"But mommy!" Flurry Heart gave a sad look, "I'm so sowy."
"Your not 2 anymore, you need to start behaving like a good little girl." Cadence frowned.
Flurry Heart held her breath.
"I'm not like your dad."
They sat there in silence for a few moments. Flurry Heart gasped and began to breath again, the purple in her face subsided. She looked at her mom sadly.
"Now come one." Cadence stood up, "your friends want to play birthday games and your not there.
It took Flurry Heart a moments to realize she had been served by the bluff master.
Flurry Heart was now 6 years old, she would be in first grade, she was super excited! She jumped up and down, "just imagine all new ponies I'll meet!"
"Yep, and you'll behave like a good girl?" Shinning Armour asked, he and his wife then exchanged a look of worry.
"Yes sirie!" Flurry Heart smiled.
The closer they walked to the school house the more worry the two parents felt. If their daughter didn't mind stuffing a crystal pony in a tiny dress, bringing her to first grade would be like letting a timberwolf lose in a bunny cage.
Their daughter ran into the class room after giving each of her parents a kiss on the cheek, "love you guys."
Cadence smiled at her husband, she then grew serious, "let's promise to NEVER have another baby."
"Agreed."
They walked back to the castle.
Flurry Heart was now 7! This was her second year of school! She made some new friends last year and had already started to get awards for being a good student. She made her parents proud. Not to mention her pet phoenix Ruby seemed plenty happy also.
Flurry Heart was now on her way back to school chatting with her friends as she left. Cadence and Shinning Armour where standing outside watching her leave, they exchanged another glace, this time a smile.
"One more?" Shinning Armour asked.
Cadence nodded and they walked back into the castle.
