An Icy Twilight

CHAPTER 1 – Boredom

By Eddiehowell

I sat in her throne in the Friendship Castle. I sat up straight and dignified then continued to slouch. My number one assistant, Spike, watched from the side as I let out a sigh that carried on the wind and throughout Ponyvile.

I’m bored. I wanted to reorganize the Library again, but Spike told me that there are only so many times you can reorganize a Library. He was right and I knew this but I still have nothing to do. So I tossed a few ideas round my head.

Was Pinkie Pie throwing a party soon? No, not until next week. Did I need to send a letter to Celestia? No, nor to Shining Armour or my Parents, I had done that Already. What about Rainbow Dash or Applejack? Did they need help? No Applejack was busy apple bucking and Rainbow was watching the Wondercolts with Fluttershy. What about Rarity or Pinkie Pie? No, Rarity already had some inspiration and Pinkie Pie was party-planning. Did anypony else need my help? Unlikely, unless somepony needed to take out a Library book.It was at this point Spike stepped forward.

“Twilight, are you ok? You’ve been sat there for nearly an hour just sighing. What’s wrong?”

“I’m bored Spike. I mean, what’s a mare to do when she’s got nothing to do?” I sighed giving in.

“Well, you could take a trip.  Everypony’s gotten used to you being a Princess, and you could take Starlight Glimmer with you. Teach her more about the magic of friendship.”

I blinked. I blinked again. How had I not thought of that? It was obvious. Just go for a nice calming trip with your student, and enjoy some time together.

“Thanks, Spike” I Jumped out of the throne, picked Spike up with my magic and spun him round and round, making him dizzy. His eyes spun as he tottered on his feet. ”Ok, I’ll go ask Starlight”

“Okay Twilight, just compose yourself first. Don’t just run in there like a madmare” Spike said after shaking out his dizziness.

“Fine Spike, don’t try and eat the Castle this time.”

“Hey! I just wanted to see if it was edible for a dragon.” I smiled as I went to find Starlight.

Starlight lay there, reading in the room I gave her after we helped her.

“Hey, Starlight. You want to go for a walk? It’s just that I’ve got nothing to do and I wondered if you’d come with me.”

“Sure, why not. Got nothing better to do.” Starlight looked up from her book

“You are reading aren’t you?”

“Ha ha, Twilight, very funny. I’ll come with you”

“Great, I was thinking of a trip to the frozen north; see my brother and Cadence in the Crystal Empire.” I thought out load.

“Wait you mean, Princess Cadence?” Starlight looked at with an expression of bewilderment on her face.

“Yes, how can you stalk me for 3 months and not know she’s my Sister-in-law” Starlight’s jaw almost touched the floor.

“She’s your Sister in law! I thought you just knew her. And besides I was looking up your past not your current relationships with the Princesses of Equestria, I already knew about you being Celestia’s Protégé and Luna’s friend but Sister-in-law to Cadence!”

“So… Frozen north it is?” I said before Starlight could continue ranting

“Huh? Oh, yeah. It would be nice to see Princess Candace.”

“You know that makes two Princesses you’ve met.”

“Wow, I hadn’t thought of that. Wait. Are you a Princess in name only like Blueblood is a Prince or are you actually in line for the throne of Equestria?”

“Hum, I’d need to ask Celestia to know for sure but, I think I am.”

“Okay, that makes sense. I guess Cadence is too as she ascended from a Pegasus to an Alicorn.”

“Yep, now let’s go before Spike tries to push us out with force” I said Laughing as I did so.

The train ride was a comfortable ride. The long winding tracks that led up to the Crystal Empire provided the most gorgeous views of the empire. The rolling hills, the mountain behind the castle made of crystal. The houses of the ponies were only small bumps on the landscape from out here.It also gave me plenty of time to tell starlight what happened in the empire a few scant months ago.

“You mean that you threw the crystal heart off the edge, when you were pinned down by Sombra, hoping that spike could catch it.” Starlight almost gasped after I’d finished talking

“Yes, I did but it was that or give it to Sombra. If Sombra got his hooves on it, the crystal ponies would have been under his control again. I couldn’t have let that happen.” My counter was stronger than her first attack. If she were to retaliate with a new point I may have been done for.

“I guess that, makes sense but still that was pretty risky of you. If the heart had smashed the Crystal Ponies would have been demoralized beyond repair.”

WARNING! WARNING! Immediate backfire! Must think fast!

“I made a well evaluated, well thought out, plan and executed it.”

“You made a well thought out plan in seconds, while pinned down by a pony willing to kill you!”

RED ALERT! READ ALERT! ALL SNARK CANNONS ON FULL POWER

“Nooooo. I made a split second decision and it worked out. Of course it thought out!”

“I’m confused which part was sarcastic?”

The first part was true but I wasn’t going to give her the satisfaction of knowing that.

CHARGE UP SNARK CANNONS!

Wait for it.

FIRE!

“All of it was a lie. I never faced Sombre, the Crystal Empire never came back, and Spike didn’t become the hero of the Crystal Empire.”

“Ok, Snarky McSnark. Why can I see the Crystal Empire out the window?”

Umm. The Snark cannons must be broken. Must resort to normal forms of communication.

“Oh, that’s a fairly large plothole. Hum, oh look, we’re here.”

As the friendship express slowed to a halt the Crystal Empire’s true glory could be seen and experienced. I’m pretty sure I heard Starlight’s Jaw hit the floor. This was going to be a fun trip.
