"So,girls, what did you do this weekend?" Sweetie Belle asked as she and her friends trotted to school on a Monday morning.
"Applejack took me to see Babs," Apple Bloom responded.
"Rainbow Dash took me to a Wonderbolts race!" Scootaloo announced excitedly.
As the CMC approached the schoolhouse, loud noises were heard from inside. "Hey, what's going on?" Scootaloo asked.
When they stepped inside, they saw the whole class crowded in one area near a desk. They recognized the filly sitting in the desk as Twist. She looked like she was worried, and it also looked like she was searching for something. The crowd whispered all at once.
"Hey, what's going on?" Asked Scootaloo.
"Twist lost her cupcakes," their friend, Diamond Tiara answered. Everpony knew that Twist had enrolled in a cooking contest for fillies and colts, and she had made her special candy flavored cupcakes. Everypony knew Twist's cooking was really good, even Miss Cheerilee agrees. Suddenly, AppleBloom's face lighted up.
“I got an idea!” She announced excitedly. “We can help Twist by getting her cupcakes back!”
“That’s a great idea!” Scootaloo commented. “Besides, since we’ve gotten our cutie marks, it’ll be easy.”
The three fillies trotted through the crowd, and up to Twist’s desk. “We’ll help you find your cupcakes,” Sweetie Belle said.
Twist’s face brightened up a little. “Thanks for helping me,” she said. “It’s a big mystery.”
“Did somepony say mystery?” A pink mare suddenly appeared in the schoolhouse.
“Pinkie, how did you get here?” Apple Bloom asked.
“I came as soon as I could when my tail started twitching,” Pinkie said. “I can help you solve your mystery, after all I am a pretty good detective.” Everypony knew about the mystery on the train, when Mr. and Mrs. Cake’s prized cake was being eaten.
“Okay, more help would make it easier,” Sweetie Belle said, accepting Pinkie’s help.
“So what’s the mystery here?” Pinkie asked.
“Oh, Twist’s batch of cupcakes went missing, she was made them for a cooking contest,” Sweetie Belle answered.
“This reminds me very much of the first mystery I solved. We must interrogate her first,” Pinkie said. She trotted up to Twist. “So, Twist, where was the last time you saw the cupcakes?”
“I wanted to show my friends the cupcakes I made, since I knew they would like to see them. I also knew that the contest was after school, so I thought it would be better that way. I came early tot school to set it somewhere, and I asked Miss Cheerilee is she could save it somewhere after school, and she put it on a table next to the window. But when I came back to check on it, it was gone,” Twist answered.
“What did your cupcakes look like?” Pinkie asked.
“I wanted to do a hearth's warming eve theme. They were vanilla cupcakes with red and green frosting. I added a candy cane at the top,” Twist answered.
“Hmm…” Pinkie thought aloud. “Do you know any others who might be entering in the contest?”
Twist thought for a moment before answering, “I know that Dinky Hooves was also entering in the contest. She was baking muffins.”
“We should interrogate Dinky,” Sweetie Belle said. “I think I saw her in Sugarcube Corner before she headed to school.”
In Sugarcube Corner, Dinky took out a fresh batch of muffins. They were droopy, and imperfect. Dinky took a bite from one of the muffins, and threw it up in the garbage can nearby. She frowned. “I’ll never win the contest, now.”
“Aha!” Came a voice.
