Magic. It's a word that is common in households across the land. It is the energy that flows through everything. Without it, this world would soon wither away. With each passing moon, scholars across the land discover a little more about magic, from how it affects pony evolution, to new techniques of manipulating it. But something gnaws at my mind, the one unanswered question that bothers me: where did all this magic come from? Quite some time ago, I found a few scrolls at the University Arcana, the most distinguished academy on magic, crammed into a tight corner between shelves. I took them back to my laboratory, and soon noticed that this was in Faustus, a dead language. Faustus is still used in some spells, so I had a good knowledge of it.  I spent many moons painstakingly translating the scrolls, and when I was done, it was as if everything we have learned in the past hundred years was barely scratching the surface. In the beginning of time, two godlike beings first released magic from the core of the planet. I have deemed them the 'Alpha' and the 'Omega'. They were the ones who showed magic to the first ponies. They allowed the magic to flow throughout the earth, filling the world with life. Now, I was looking through these scrolls, and in the second-to-last one, the middle had been eaten by termites. I could only decipher the words 'absorb' and 'corrupt'. This has lead me to believe that someone tried to corrupt and/or absorb magic, causing a catastrophic event that forced the Alpha and Omega to be sealed away, locked in the core of the planet. I was organizing my personal library earlier today and found a spell that may be similar to the spell used to create the seal. It says it lasts for...eons? Millenia? It was slightly blotted by an ink splotch. I must stop writing now, for someone is at my door. I will continue my studies later.
