I giggled and buried my face into his warm embrace, but just as I felt like I could stay there forever, Shining Armor slowly pulled away and started heading towards the door. “Seriously, though,” he said, taking one last look before walking out the door. “If you need any help with the baby, send a message to Twilight.”
“I’ll be fine,” I fibbed. “I’d be too afraid of Spike coughing up a letter while he was eating anyway.”
With a sad smile and the wave of his hoof, my husband then walked out the door and into the world that needed him most. The sound of the door closing, though, told Flurry Heart all she needed to know before she started crying loudly for her father to come back home.
“Shh, shh, shhhh,” I hushed, picking up the baby and cradling her in my hooves. “It’s OK. Mommy’s here for you.” Putting her back into the baby saddle around my neck, I then quietly made our way into the playroom of the castle, filled with toys for her and books for me.
With the foal still crying, I set her down on the floor, and with my most surprised voice, I said, “Look! Blocks! You wanna build a house with the blocks?” Flurry Heart sadly followed my eyes to the toy cubes on the floor, but as she saw the fun activity right in front of her, she hushed her crying and crawled her way over to play. Giggling at her sudden wide smile, I picked out a book from the shelf and levitated it to eye level, trying to find where I left off.
A History of Equestrian Magic. The book was actually a very interesting read. Normally magic books I picked up were about Starswirl the Bearded, but this book actually had biographies of all kinds of unicorns that also contributed to the study of magic. In fact, there’s a possibility that Starswirl’s tutor was actually more talented in magic than he was. He wasn’t a unicorn, though. He was--

Flurry Heart’s eyes gently closed again as she quietly muttered, “Ma… Momma…”
