It was a sunny day in Ponyville when three mares exited the local spa. Twilight, Rarity, and Fluttershy had just spent their afternoon getting pampered by Aloe and Lotus and were feeling refreshed.
"You were right, Rarity. The spa was just what I needed after that overnight study session."
"Yes, isn't the spa just lovely?"
"Oh yes, it is very enjoyable."
"YOU GUYS!" Pinkie Pie's voice could be heard in Canterlot with the volume she used. She could be seen running towards the three mares with a look of absolute glee in her eyes. After rubbing their ears of ringing, Twilight spoke.
"Pinkie, don't yell so loud. You'll frighten everypony. What's wrong?"
"Wrong? Nothing's wrong, you silly filly. Everything's great!" Pinkie was bouncing in front of the others in excitement.
A confused Rarity spoke, "Then why were you yelling?"
"Because I just found out Applejack and Rainbow Dash are a couple!"
All three mares gasped. "What?!"
[Ten minutes ago]
Giggles could be heard outside of a large red barn on Sweet Apple Acres. Pinkie Pie heard this and decided to investigate.
"Ya think the others know?" The first voice was Applejack.
"I hope not. I don't want to tell them til we're ready." It was Rainbow Dash.
"Same here, sugarcube."
"Why is it so big?"
"For the most enjoyment, 'a course."
Rainbow could be heard giggling again, "I can take it all."
At this, Pinkie gasped and ran off. She had to tell the others!
Applejack poked her head out of the barn and looked around. "Did you hear that? Ah thought Ah heard somepony gasp."
[Present]
"And that's what happened!"
"Pinkie Pie," Rarity spoke up, "I can't believe you would eavesdrop on our friends!" Her demeanor changed to joy. "But this is great news! I always thought those two had a lot in common."
"I'm glad for them, but what do we do?" Twilight wasn't too experienced in romance and looked to the others for information.
"That's easy! We'll throw a party! We can hold it at Sugarcube Corner and invite the whole town. They'll love it!"
As the girls got to work planning out the party, Fluttershy looked concerned. Whenever she tried to voice her opinion, it would be drowned out by the others. Before long, everypony arrived at Sugarcube Corner and the lights were turned off. Applejack and Rainbow Dash could be heard approaching.
"Pinkie sure has good timing. Now's as good a time as any, ah guess."
"Don't worry Applejack. They'll love it. ...Why is it so dark though?"
The door opened and everypony let out a loud 'Congratulations!' The two were surprised, but, after so many parties by Pinkie Pie, it was subdued. After meeting with the rest of their friends, Applejack and Rainbow Dash walked up onto a stage.
"I wanna thank y'all for coming. Rainbow an' I have some big new to tell y'all." The crowd was hanging on their every word.
"Yeah, we wanted it to be a surprise, but it looks like Pinkie beat us to it.
"RD an' I have been working together to make something we hope y'all will enjoy." Now the crowd was getting confused; weren't they here to celebrate their relationship?
"Without further ado..." Dash let the moment hang for a bit. "We give you, Rainbowjack!" A large keg appeared between the two. Everypony went wide-eyed.
"It's a new cider we worked on that has a stronger kick than the usual applejack ah make!"
The whole crowd turned to a sheepish looking Pinkie Pie. They spoke together, "Pinkie Pie....."
The door to the library burst open, startling the purple librarian within. Pinkie ran in and started hopping circles around Twilight.
"I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!"
"Pinkie."
"You all thought I was wrong, but I was right!"
"Pinke!"
"Sure they didn't announce it at my party, but they were just shy!"
"PINKIE!"
"Yeah Twilight?"
"Who and what are you talking about?"
"Applejack and Rainbow Dash of course! They are totally together!"
The purple unicorn facehoof'd. "Pinkie, didn't you learn anything the last time?"
"I know they're together this time! The whole town is talking about it."
"And what, exactly, are they talking about?"
"AppleDash this and AppleDash that! I don't know how the town found out before me, but it's okay! I can still make a party for them!"
Twilight sighed. "Pinkie, I still don't see how this proves Applejack and Rainbow Dash are dating."
Pinkie grabbed Twilight's hoof and dragged her out of the library. When they got to the center of town, she pulled Twilight into a nearby bush with her.
"Pinkie-"
"Shh! Listen" Twilight perked her ears as she was told.
"Did you hear about AppleDash? They work so well together, I can't believe it."
"AppleDash? Well I'll be, about time."
"Those two are at it again. AppleDash is the hottest thing right now."
This convinced her. If the town is talking about it, it must have some truth to it. "Alright Pinkie, I believe you. I'm guessing you want to put together a party for them again?
"Yupperoni! You get the other girls Twilight; I'll meet you back at the library so we can get the party started!" Pinkie Pie ran off to do whatever she does to make parties.
Twilight sighed again. "Another party in the library... Ugh, better get the girls."
Twilight found Rarity and Fluttershy and told them what happened. They agreed be at the party and she went to find Applejack and Rainbow Dash. When she did, all she told them was to meet at the library for a little party. Then, she returned home.
While she was away, Pinkie had set up the place like every other time she made it the party locale. 'At least she has the decency to avoid damaging the books,' Twilight thought. Soon enough, the party was ready and guests arrived. She pulled Pinkie over then.
"Pinkie! I thought it was just us. The town already knows!"
"No they don't silly. They know AppleDash, not them together! I brought everypony so it really would be official!"
Twilight just groaned and headed towards the knock at the door. Applejack and Rainbow were there. Just like last time, the door was open, congratulations were had, and the two headed towards a stage. This time, it was just the landing at the top of the stairs.
"Ah really must that y'all for congratulating us. Ah didn't know we'd be so popular."
"Maybe for you, AJ, but I knew I'd be popular." Dash's confident attitude as as ever-present as always.
"Right, well, we just wanted to think y'all for enjoying our newest drink so much, AppleDash! A sweet apple energy drink!"
And just like that, Rarity and Fluttershy turned to Twilight and Pinkie with eyebrows raised. "Twinkie..." The timing between the two saying different names ended up making another portmanteau.
