The thing in the edge of my vision
The first thing I remembered after waking was the terrible feeling of being watched.
I had kicked the covers off of me, and I was drenched in a terribly cold sweat.
My dream had been a complete nightmare. There were things...
There was blood...
But worst of all, there was a pony.
In the midst of it all, he stood untouched in the center of the action, shrouded in darkness. I couldn't see any actual features on him, but I could tell he was a stallion.
I didn't have much time TO look though. I was running from a demon after all.
I swore he had glowing white eyes though.
After the demon had finally caught up with me and trampled me over, my bones crushing under the weight of the scaly winged monster, I got one last look of the pony vanishing in the purple mist.
I shook my head.
It was just a nightmare. Just a dream.
I laid back down, brushing a few strands of hair out of my face and bringing my hooves up close to my chest. I look out at my dark room.
Everything was blanketed in soft shadows, brought forth by the moonlight that gleamed from behind the large window.
I looked outside, finding solace in the starry sky.
Nothing was wrong.
A simple dream.
Just before I closed my eyes in sleep once again, I could've swore I saw the shadow of a pony outside my window, on the balcony, staring straight at me...
"Twilight!" I was shaken into reality by a purple little scaly creature. He seemed a little concerned, and he eventually stopped when I finally opened my eyes drowsily.
"What is it Spike?" I mumbled. He sighed.
"Twilight, you've NEVER slept in this late! I thought you were dead!" he cried, and fell back onto the sheets. I sat up, and levitated him back onto his feet.
"I know, I know. I just didn't sleep well last night, is all" I turned to look out the window. The sun gleamed over the horizon.
"Uh-huh. Nightmares don't make ponies sleep an extra three hours in" Spike pouted. I laughed.
"Alright then, mister know-it-all. Mind making coffee? I need to study more on those Ender spells" I tilted my head.
"Hey!" Spike frowned.
I smiled and shook my head.
"... Fine" Spike jumped off the bed, and scurried off to find the kitchen. Even for a tiny little dragon, he made a great cook.
I slowly made my way out of bed, stopping to stretch my wings.
I noticed a shadow in the edge of my vision after I open my eyes. I glanced towards the direction it had been in, only to find nothing.
Shrugging it off for now, I padded out of my room and into the main corridor.
There I passed by several crystal windows, all flooded light into the room. The actual crystal walls themselves reflected that light to such extreme levels it was a wonder no pony had been blinded living here.
I had grown used to it though.
After a while of living like this, it gets comfy after all~
I turned around one of the corners and passed through an open doorway. It led into a red carpeted room, full of bookshelves about magic and had a large desk sitting to the left.
There was even an enchantment tablet set off to the right.
I sat down in front of the table, which was set low so I could sit on the floor, and opened the latest book I had been studying.
"The study of Enderlit"
It was an interesting book, to say the least.
It wasn't anything extravagant, finding a new source of magic was about impossible anyways- and it wasn't even written by a famous philosopher.
Actually, the author's name wasn't even there.
The only letters noticeable on the scratched surface of the bind was a rather peculiar "h".
The contents of the book were rather detailed, and the format seemed as if it was a journal gone wrong.
There pictures everywhere, sketches of what looked tall black creatures known as "Enderman". They had their mouths open, which emitted some sort of power source.
The faded writing was quite hard to read, many sentences scratched out completely from the passing of time. What I was able to decipher though, was that these "Enderman", when killed, dropped a little pearl known as an "EnderPearl".
Those enderpearls could then be used as some mechanic for magic...
"Twilight! I finished your coffee!" Spike barged into the room, almost spilling my cup in the process.
He stopped at the table and set it down.
"So, find out anything?".
"Nothing much. Nothing with actual evidence, I mean. I'll tell you if I find anything worth while" I smiled at my apprentice.
He nodded and ran out of the room- probably to go cook breakfast.
I settled myself down again, taking a sip of coffee. When she lowered it down to read again, I noticed a flicker of a shadow move across the room.
I twisted my head to see who, or what, was there, but found nothing but the light shafts of light that fluttered over my stacks of books.
I stared for a moment longer before turning back to my book.
Again, I read over the page. This book practically required you look through the notes numerous times, pulling out the documents from the diary entries.
'Ender pearls are pieces of the magic that N\th hief created. The bastard mae a lar mnstr, an enemy too gat for even his power, and that den me Enderman. When Notch created this ndr gd, he created a new form of magic. Enderlit. Throughout Minrafta, it's something most fear. Those tall black tins il pnies. They suck the life out of them.
Once killed though, they drop a little round gen erl non as an Ender pearl. They allow the pony o telort oce. If you threw it somewhere, the moment it it teh grnd you'd teleport just as those Edean cld. Although you'd take a it of fl dmae in the process.'
I read over the passage quite a few times. The scratched out words made finding out what the author meant an enormous effort.
So enderpearls were a source of magic.
You could teleport using them... Why not just teleport like any normal unicorn though? Yeah it took more focus, but still.
The author had stated he was a practicing sorcerer, meaning he had to have been a unicorn.
...Right?
Throughout the whole day, I had almost finished the book.
Normally I could read through two whole novels by this time, but the fact this 'journal' seemed to be at least a thousand pages thick AND the handwriting was blurred and scratched- I'd only been able to make so much progress.
I sighed.
I wasn't getting much of anything interesting from this book, and all of it just seemed to be some made up fantasy world with mythical creatures and some hoof-made magic.
So far, the author, H, was in some predicament. He was in a cave, hiding from the spiders and zombies, even skeletons that were looking for him. He said his house had caught on fire, courtesy of some monster (the words were scratched out), and he'd only been able to grab his journal and pen before fleeing.
It would make a great survival novel, I was actually wondering why he hadn't just made it a story instead of a journal filled with random facts posted when he'd found out more.
In the book, the next day he'd come back to his house, only to find it practically burned to the ground. There were few things left, and the foundation seemed about to cave in.
He found his iron sword lying beside where his chest had been. H had sadly lost his diamond though.
He said something about making an enchanting table with it when he got three more, but it seemed that was a distant goal to him now.
The pony documented everything that happened in that journal.
It was well into the night, I noticed as I got up to stretch.
Spike padded into the room.
"You know it's really late, Twilight. I don't want to have to wake you up again" he ushered me out.
"I know, but I'm almost done with the book, I only have about two-hundred pages left-"
"Two hundred pages you can finish in the morning after you get some good sleep!" Spike protested against my own.
"Ugh, fine. See you in the morning then" I sighed. He nodded briskly before leaving off to find his bed. I looked away just in time to see a black shadow move from right in front of my vision.
I almost jumped back, but after I blinked, I found nothing.
"Could've just been a hallucination" I muttered. I'd seen this shadowy figure WAY too much throughout the day, I didn't need to see it now that the safe sunlight had left and was replaced by fore-boding shadows.
I must've been seeing things.
I focused on casting a small spell to clear my head before trotting off to bed.
