Chapter 1: A Brand New World

"Daddy!" Jason called out, sounding like he was in tears.

"I'm coming, hold on!" Skyler called out, worry clearly in his tone.

It was the middle of the night, exactly 37 minutes away from the break of midnight. The entire town was already asleep so little to no sound was able to be heard. The only noise that was in the house was the sound of Skyler swiftly moving through the halls to get to his son's room. Every footstep against the cold wooden floor made a creaking sound, along side the click and clack as he moved. It was a very long hallway, despite it being a very small house. But, it only took about a minute to make it to his son's room which was already opened slightly. As he opened it fully, he saw Jason sitting on his bed, face in his knees, bawling out his eyes.

"What happened?" Skyler asked, concerned.

"I had a nightmare daddy... a very scary one!" Jason managed to say though the streams of tears.

"Are you alright?"

"No..." He slowly started to calm down.

"Maybe you would like a bedtime story to make you forget about your bad dream?" Skyler said with a grin.

This made Jason look his father straight in the eye with a big smile "Really?!"

"If it will help, then alright." He giggled slightly at his son's reaction, "So what do you want me to read?"

"Something new. I don't want to hear anything I've heard before."

Skyler thought for a moment about what stories he had already told Jason. It seemed that he had told almost every story he had. He tried to think of any stories he may of forgotten. At that moment, he remembered.

"I'll be right back." Skyler said, as he stepped into the hallway.

He walked down the corridor a few steps to another door. He slowly turned the knob and creeked the door open. As he flicked the light switch on, the room flickered to life. Inside, a single oak desk sat in the middle of a antique rug. Accompanying it was a lone office chair. Upon the desk sat an inkwell and a stack of parchment. Skyler doesn't like to admit it, but writing in an old fashion manner was easier for him than sending an e-mail. Lining the back wall was a decently sized bookshelf that was filled to the brim with different stories.

Skyler walked over to the bookshelf, skimming the titles that he kept on it. He saw various stories that he had already read to Jason and some that he was just not old enough to hear quite yet. He paused as he noticed his favorite bedtime story when he was a child. It was 'Jack and the Beanstalk' which he adored when he was younger. As he continued, he caught a glimpse of the book he was looking for.

"Here we are!" He said, removing the book from the heavily packed shelf.

In his hands, he held a very old book that was covered in layers of dust. As he took a deep breath, he exhaled onto the top of the book with all of his might. When the cover of the book was visible, a small smile found it's way onto Skyler's face. It was titled 'Memories of Equestria' and it despite its old appearance, it was kept in relatively good condition.

As he went to exit the room, he took one last look at the inkwell on the oaken desk. This held a very deep meaning to him, but he didn't like to think of how he received it in the first place because it usually brought a tear to his eye. He flicked down the light switch and left the room in its original state.

As Skyler went back towards his son's room, he glanced down at the book. This was a very special story to him. Thinking about what was within the pages of this book made him happy. He was sure that his son would be very excited to hear this special tale. After approaching Jason's door once more, he creaked it open. Jason was looking out his window but shot his head back when he heard his father enter.

"Did you find a story?" Jason asked, excited as ever.

"Yes I did!" Skyler said, "and I'm positive that you will love this one."

"What's it about?" asked Jason as he hopped back on the bed.

"It's... I guess an autobiography... by me. It tells a tale of when I was not a part of this world."

This caused his son to tilt his head in disbelief, "What do you mean?"

"Why don't we read and find out?"

"Alright daddy."

"Alright... let's see..."

Chapter 1: A Brand New World

It was a beautiful day today. There were barely any clouds in the sky, and what clouds were there were very spread apart. The wind was soft and gentle against my face. The trees were slowly swaying to the breeze, making it seem like they were dancing. You could say that today was a very peaceful day. There was only one problem... I don't know where the heck I am!

One minute I was hiking through the woods, trying to get some peace and quiet, and suddenly, I walk through a thick line of trees and on the other side, everything looked different. I tried going back through but it just lead me into a completely different path, which was weird because I was just on a path and now it gone!

I couldn't have gone through a portal, because I didn't feel anything. And even if it WAS a portal, I should have been able to turn back the way I came with relative ease!

"Hello?" an unknown voice spoke, but me being the dense person I am, kept looking at the trees.

"Maybe it's some sort of dream world, and I just passed out in the trees without noticing!"

"HELLO?!" The voice spoke louder, this time, it grasped my attention.

"Oh hello!" I said, turning, " I didn't think anyone else would be hik-" I was cut off.

I did not expect to see this. In front of me was a cyan coloured horse with wings. This thing looked like it was birthed from a crayon box, even more so when I saw that the hair of this thing was RAINBOW COLOURED! In all my years I have learned two things. It's that you should never do drugs and if you do, don't interact with the hallucinations. And even though I was positive that I hadn't taken and drugs, I ignored rule number 2.

"You're a horse." I said, a blank expression covering my face.

"No, I'm a PONY! Pegasus to be accurate." This creature boasted by spreading its wings out far.

"Right, forget the rules, HOW ARE YOU TALKING?!"

"The same way everypony talks around here."

"Wait, there's more of you?" I ask, scared.

"Of course! Probably thousands of ponies out there!"

*THUD*

I instantaneously fell to the ground.

"Oh boy. I'm the first pony to discover this thing and I made it faint. Maybe Flutters can fix this thing, she's good with creatures!"

Why did I wake up this morning?
