Following a humiliating defeat thirty years ago, the Gryphon Empire has once again sought to expand its borders at the expense of the surrounding nations. Called upon by its allies, Equestria responds with massive military force, drafting large numbers of soldiers to meet the greatest threat to freedom in history.

One young stallion, Steel Wing, has just turned seventeen when an unfortunate turn in the war increases demand for able bodies. Faced with the Draft, he must come to terms with the fact that soldiers are called upon to serve, even at the expense of their own life.
