Bud Dale is from a family that runs one of the biggest breweries in Equestria. Ever since he was big enough to help pull the heavy carts he's helped deliver the beer they make. He saw and participated in many bar fights, even getting banned for life form a couple bars before he was even old enough to drink.

Then he joined the Solar Guard. He still enjoys a good bar brawl, though he's careful to do so only on leave to keep his professional and personal lives separate. Then he gets found out by another guard.
