Nine months. That's how long Dinky waited. Waited for...something. No, not something, somepony. Nine months ago, Dinky and her family had moved to Canterlot. Nine months ago, she had left Ponyville and the only true home she had ever known behind. She still remembered that day. Every detail. More specifically, she remembered the last day of school. The last day she spent in her home away from home.
Dinky walked through the crowded school gym, searching. "Where are they?" She thought.
The tiny unicorn looked frantically around the room. Everywhere she went there were ponies, all of them laughing and talking excitedly, because this was the last day of school, and they had the whole summer to have fun together. But Dinky didn't have that. She was leaving for Canterlot that very day. She wasn't happy, or excited, or any of those good feelings anypony else was feeling at that moment. She was scared. Scared that nopony would remember her and just as she would later walk out of the school's front doors, she would walk out of her friends lives forever, never to be remembered again.
Suddenly, she spotted Sweetie Belle and Pipsqueak across the enormous room, with a sea of pastel coloured obstacles between them and her. Sweetie Belle and Pip. She certainly counted them as two of her closest friends, but Dinky didn't know if they thought the same about her. "What's the point of talking to them now?" the unicorn thought miserably.
"It's not like we're that close, anyway. They've probably already moved on to other friends. I've only been in Ponyville for a year. Only at this school for a year. Only known them for a year. Is it even possible to make a friend in one year? I don't know. Twilight Sparkle makes friends much much faster than that, but that's the Princess of Friendship! That's her job. Literally thank Celestia she's good at it. I'm terrible at making friends. All the friends I made before Ponyville ditched me when they found out I was leaving Manehatten. Except two. My bestest friend who I've known my whole life is one. And Apple Bloom. But she doesn't count because she was already in Ponyville and is one of the many reasons I moved here in the first place."
Dinky waved hopelessly in the direction of her friends. They didn't notice and instead ran over to Button Mash, who was desperatly trying to complete the last level of a video game, which he had been hiding under his desk and playing during class all year.
"UGH. I think too much. Point is, I care about them, a lot. I trust them. A lot. But they probably don't care about me or trust me or consider a friend. I'm just a temporary thing. Blink and I'm gone. Nopony's going to care."
Just then, Derpy swooped down in front of Dinky.
