Well, I've been arrested.
It doesn't really matter HOW I got caught, but I'll tell you anyways.
I'm your ordinary, everyday thief, and it turns out that I completely underestimated the security at a museum.
So there I was, performing the classic way of grabbing valuable stuff, from above, I'm a Pegasus, when I hear an alarm go off, and guards randomly jump out of nowhere, and take me down in seconds.
Not much, but happened way too slowly.
Now I'm here, in a prison, locked up with other people who tried to do the same kind of thing. And now, we will all do the exact same thing, over and over for however long it is until we get let out.
Except I'm not being just like the others. I need to get out of here, before I go mad.
Day one.
Morning roll call. How they see if you've died the night before. It's quite pathetic. We just stand there, and listen to the guards ramble on, and occasionally call out one of our names.
"Crackle Star?"
"Here, sir." Oh god, I sound like something straight out of a correctional facili- oh, right.
The guards blab on a bit more, distracted by their own speech, when another inmate, grey coat, dark blue mane, whispers to me. "Got a comb shiv on ya? The screws took my last one. I'll pay ya for it." He pulls out about 25 bits, and continues. "All yours, if you just get me that shiv." He puts the bits back in one of his pockets.
"Yeah, sure. Do you know any easy way I can get out of here?"
"Uh, you new to prison? We call it 'waiting'."
"I mean a way out that doesn't take a minimum of 2 years to execute."
"Oh, well that's your problem. I dont wanna get in with the screws too deep."
One of the guards shouts out that it's breakfast. Everyone begins to walk towards the cafeteria, but I slip away. I go in all the cells, and find things that could be useful. I found a bunch of stuff, which consists of: A roll of duct tape.
You have got to be kidding me. I walk back to my cell, and store the duct tape there.
The bell rings, indicating free time. I remember spotting a comb back in one of the cells, but now that the guards are walking in the area, it could be difficult. I sneak in, and take the comb.
"Hey, you! Get your sorry ass outta that cell!" A guard yells out.
"Sorry, sir! I forgot which cell was mine, sir!" Again with the straight outta a correctional facility thing.
"Keep moving, you piece of slop."
I wander into my cell, and sharpen the comb on the wall. After a few minutes, it's ready. I do my best not to cut myself, and hoof it over to that grey pony.
"Pay up, dude, I got your shiv." I put it on his hoof.
He examines it closely, and runs some of his fur along it. "Thanks, man. Take the 27 bits." He tosses a few coins over to me, and I catch them in the air.
"Looks like you got a bit o' cash. Wanna buy something?" A pony pops out of nowhere and opens up a contraband saddlebag. In it are two files, a crowbar, and some wire. "I get you wanna get out of here, but everything has a price."
He got me. I hand him 25 bits and take a file.
"Thanks for the cash, dude."
I examine the file closely. Rough, but was used before I bought it. It won't last as long as it should. "Hey, get back here!" I look around for the merchant pony, but he's nowhere to be found. "He's messing with the wrong pony."
That lunch, I see him again. "Give me back my money."
"Give me back the file."
I hand the file to him, being careful of guards. "Sorry, bro, but this is used. I can't take it back."
"It was already used! Give me back the money!"
He shakes his head.
"You messed with the wrong pony!" He smiles in a smug way, so I wipe the smug look off his face with a hoof. Quickly.
He exaggerates the pain, and the guards start to notice. I need to stay under the radar, or my escape plan might be foiled later on. I clutch my back left leg, and put on a believable face that shows pain. The guards walk over, and he throws a punch at me. The guards see that I'm now 'hurt' more, and begin to take out the merchant. They search his saddlebag, and I grin as they take the files and the crowbar. A guard slips a bit into my pocket. He must feel bad for me.
Lunch ends, and it's excersize period. I walk into the gym to see a bunch of weights and treadmills. I try to fly, but realize they've put a restraint around my wings.
I wander up to that guy who I gave the shiv to. "Hey, you know how to get these restraints off?"
"Like I said before, that's your problem."
I wander over to the weights, and gain a bit of strength. I sit down and do my best to examine the restraints. It appears to need a key, and a small smudge indicates it's likely a black key.
"Do any guards have a black key I can borrow?" I yell out. Hey, it's worth trying.
"How bout you shut your piehole, convict! You ain't getting those restraints off any time soon!"
I shrug, and sit. Eventually, it's free time again. That means raiding cells. From knowledge of thievery and makeshift stuff, I know that a bit of talcum powder and toothpaste makes good putty, and putty can be used to make molds. If I can get a mold of that black key, then I can unlock the restraints and fly away.
It seems like a good strategy.
I raid for those materials, and craft the putty. One of the guards is carrying the key in his back pocket, so I take it. It takes me a few seconds to make the mood, then I slip it back in.
When dinner comes around, I raid the kitchen for a fork, and some more cells for a lighter. I put the newly crafted melted plastic in the mold, and voila! A pristine plastic black key that has probably about 3 uses.
Courtyard time rolls around, and we all head outside for a look at the outside world that day. That's my cue. I unlock the restraints, but keep them on. I yell out to all the guards that there's contraband. A model of a black key on the ground near my feet! They begin to crowd to see it, and I throw the sections of restraint at the guards. I spread my wings and leap into the air. It may have only been one day, but it's good to be free.
I look back, and see other pegasi using the black key on their restraints, and flying off. I look towards the roof of that god awful prison, and i see a figure. A closer look reveals what he's doing. He's sniping me down.
A bullet rips through my wing, and I go spiralling to the ground. I do a roll and start running, some cops hot on my tail. I begin to run through ponyville, and pass by the golden oak library. I see a glow in the window, and I feel myself stop moving. I cramp up everywhere, and another restraint appears on me. A purple alicorn walks out of the library.
"On the behalf of the princess of friendship, I give to you... A high security prison and a cell. Enjoy!" She shoots a beam of light at me, and I fell myself fall asleep.
I wake up, and the first thing I notice is the fact that I'm in a cell, and all the walls are carved into the ground. The next thing I notice is that there isn't a keyhole on the restraints any more. A note falls from the desk to my feet. I read it alout to nobody in particular.
"You might've already noticed, but the only way out of this prison is a door, and there is no way to fly out. I figure that isn't a problem, though, as your wing restraints gave to be removed through magic.
