Music at Twilight

Lyra was sitting comfortably on her couch and reading the last few sentences of the chapter in the Daring Doo book she was currently on. This chapter was one of the more exciting ones because it finally introduced some action which was good because the introduction was kind of boring. Not that the book was boring, she actually found it a bit interesting to read some history facts.

Right after she finished reading that particular chapter she heard somepony unlocking the door. The pony had the key to the house and that meant that pony was Bon Bon. She smiled gleefully at that because it meant that her marefriend remembered what day it was, their anniversary. Today was exactly five years since they got together, five years of sharing each other’s lives, the sad moments and the happy moments as well as the occasional intimate moments.

She blushed a bit at all the memories but that passed quickly as she heard her walking into their living room. Lyra turned around and saw her cream-coloured marefirend trotting towards her with a smirk on her face.

The moment Bon Bon was close enough to Lyra she gently grabbed her head with her hooves and kissed her passionately on the lips. It was a long and a pretty amazing kiss and Lyra released a quiet moan before the candy maker finally released her marefriend. “Happy anniversary dear,” said Bon Bon still smirking while sitting down on the couch next to the green mare.

“Happy anniversary to you too beautiful,” replied Lyra smiling at her marefriend. I really am a lucky mare to have her in my life, she thought. They agreed a week ago that they would go for a nice walk through the town park and have a romantic dinner after that. She was really looking forward to it as they haven’t been to a restaurant together in ages. All in all it was going to be a great day she was sure of that.

“So how is the most important mare in my life doing today?” Bon Bon asked giving Lyra another brief quick kiss on her lips. She was really looking forward to their anniversary, it was a big number of years they spent together after all. Five whole years she spent in joy and sadness with the love of her life. Throughout the morning she was remembering all the moments they spent together.

She was especially remembering the days when the two of them met and became a couple. She considered herself a really lucky mare to be with her. Since the moment she laid eyes on her she knew that the mare she was looking at was the one with which she wanted to spend her days with. Confessing her feelings was a really difficult and scary process but it was all worth it and she wasn’t regretting doing it.

The days they spent getting to know each other were the days she treasured the most. Her cute laugh and her honey voice made her heart flutter. At the time they started to spend more and more time together talking, laughing and exchanging interests. A month or so after she told her that she loved her and Lyra’s response was a long passionate kiss, not to unlike the one they shared a moment ago. After Lyra graduated she moved into her Ponyville house and the rest is history.

Lyra responded in a casual tone: “Oh I’m doing great. I slept great, ate great, read a part of a great book and I’m about to have a great evening”, she stopped for a second and put on a smile,  “That is if you haven’t forgotten what we have planned out for today.”

Bon Bon pretended to look shocked: “Oh Lyra dear you really wound me by not trusting me,” they just looked at each other before breaking into laughter together. They did this sort of thing sometimes when one of them needed cheering up or when the mood somewhere needed to be lighten up. “Of course I remember what we have planned out, I even closed up the shop a little early than usual just for you.”

“Awww thank you I really like that you closed earlier just for me,” Lyra said to her marefriend and hugged her immediately, the hug was followed up with a peck on the cheek.”

“Yes, well we should get ready and go, we do want to make good use of the time we have don’t we?” Bon Bon smiled. She wasn’t joking this time, she really wanted to spend as much of this day with Lyra as it was possible. The dinner was just a finishing touch to a perfect day, the real fun was spending time together in the park and planning for the future, discussing random topics or simply cuddling.

With that they got up and trotted through the living room and up the stairs to take the bath together and do other similar things a pony does before they go out on a day like this one.

Twilight has just finished her lunch at Sugarcube Corner and was on her way back to the tree she called home. This lunch and a talk with her wonderful friends was what she needed to lighten up a bit. The six mares have discussed a number of things, one of which was Rarity’s plans to open up a second shop and in Canterlot no less! It surely was an ambitious idea but she was sure that with some help from her friends Rarity could pull it off.

Canterlot, the city in which she left her heart. Today marked five years since that sad event. Usually she would spend the evening with a bottle of hard cider and a soft pillow but today was going to be different, at least that was what she hoped. The plan was to distract herself with research of some kind or a good book. Twilight saw Lyra walking with Bon Bon and she stopped walking. The couple was smiling happily, only noticing each other. That was okay in Twilight’s book, they were a couple and it was their anniversary after all.

For the first time today Twilight genuinely smiled, Lyra was happy. Her being happy was what she really needed, more than her friends or all the books in the world. The couple just trotted by and she couldn’t help but to steal a glance at Lyra. She was truly beautiful, her mane swishing back and forward, not to forget her tail moving hypnotically. At that moment her mind and soul were screaming at her to fight for her love, urging her to kiss her and show how much she meant to her, how much she cared for her. She wanted to do it she really did but that meant hurting Lyra’s relationship with Bon Bon and potentially Lyra herself and she couldn’t do that if her life depended on it. Instead of listening to her hearts’ wishes she took the pain that was the second option and trotted back home.

It was now evening, the Sun was setting and shinning its last rays upon the town and the Moon was slowly rising as its counterpart was setting. A pair of mares was leaving a restaurant after a romantic dinner. The cream-coloured mare spoke fist with a smile on her face: “Well that was an amazing dinner wasn’t it dear?”

Her marefriend smiled back at her. It really was an amazing dinner and she enjoyed every bit of it. “Yes it was I really enjoyed every bite of it,” she said. The perfect dinner for the ending of an important day in her life.

Lyra was silently trotting along Bon Bon when she felt the need to say how much she loved her beautiful marefriend. “You know you are the best thing that has happened to me,” she said. Bon Bon smiled and kissed her. The kiss was short yet it had a meaning of deep love behind it.

“I know Lyra I feel the exact same way, meeting you has changed my life for ever and I am not regretting it,” said Bon Bon. They smiled at each other and kissed again. Everything they felt for each other was put into that kiss.

What they both failed to notice was a lavender unicorn who just came from around the corner. That unicorn was Twilight Sparkle and she stopped dead in her tracks. She felt her heart scream at her again. It was telling her to do something, anything to be the one kissing the golden-eyed beauty. Soon the couple stopped kissing and moved on only to bump into a unicorn they did not know was there.

That brief contact was too much for Twilight to endure and her emotional dam broke. She quickly grabbed Lyra’s head and kissed her with all of her might. All the years of care, love and stealing glances at her were put into that kiss and what a kiss it was. It was a kiss that quite clearly stated ‘I love you and want to spend the rest of my existence with you’.

Bon Bon was shocked and her brain was trying to comprehend that Twilight Sparkle was kissing HER marefriend with all her might. The effort wasn’t going to well so she just stood there. Lyra was even more shocked than Bon Bon was to the point she was paralyzed. All the energy she had was being used up to process the fact that her fillyhood friend was kissing her. She wasn’t expecting anything remotely close to this on her anniversary.

Now that she thought about it Twilight tended to act funny near her but she somehow failed to realise that was a consequence of a crush. That was certainly a revelation to her and got her thinking how this would affect her relationship with Bon Bon, she was worried about it a bit now. Soon Twilight realised what she was doing and released Lyra and backed up a bit. She was visibly worried and scared but before anypony could ask a question she teleported away leaving tow stunned mares behind.
