Spike woke up tied to a chair, with a pistol pointed into his mouth. Lance was holding the gun, and held his finger firmly on the trigger, grinning devilishly.
"Three minutes." Lance spoke flatly. "this is it. Ground zero. Would you like to say a few words to mark the occasion?"
Spike looked up at him. "Aaaaahhhhllllll cnnnnttt nnnnnkk uu uuuuhhhhnnnnhhnnnn." He said, the gun barrel between his teeth. Lance moved the gun away from Spike, who sighed, and repeated himself: "I can't think of anything."
Lance sighed, and moved behind Spike's chair, to the large window. he had a complete view over Canterlot. "Getting exciting now." lance reported, leaning his arm up against the glass.
Spike looked around. He was in a large, dark room, and there were huge bookcases covering the walls. twilight's old house. Spike thought, then memories hit him and tears formed around his eyes. Dammit, Twilight! Why did you have to become all protective over me? You'd still be--
"What?" Lance turned around, pointing his pistol at the back of Spike's head. "Alive? She'd be alive, is that it?" Lance moved in front of Spike again. "Are you blaming her death on her?" Spiked gulped, and forced back more tears. Lance gestured to the window with his gun, and turned Spike's chair around so that he could see outside. "We have front row seats for this theatre of mass destruction. The demolitions committee of Project Mayhem have wrapped the foundations of every major building in Canterlot with a dozen columns of blasting gelatin."
Spike grit his teeth, already knowing everything that Lance could possibly tell him. Lance grinned, also aware of Spike's knowledge of the situation. Even so, he kept explaining it to him. It seemed to hurt him more. "In two minutes primary charges will blow base charges and all the important buildings in Canterlot will be reduced to smouldering rubble." Lance moved to the window again, and checked the clock on the wall. "Two and a half." He said blankly. "Think of everything we've accomplished."
Suddenly Spike realized that all of this, the guns, the bombs, the revolution, has got something to do with a pony Spike and Lance had crushes on: Rarity. Spike thought back to how this all had started...
It was months ago, and Spike couldn't sleep. Not for weeks. He was doing his normal thing in his average life. Every so often something would happen to Twilight and her friends, but most of the time, Spike wasn't around to witness it. he usually just wrote to Princess Celestia about what Twilight had learned. Every once in a while he would see rarity, and gawp at her, but nothing ever happened. Spike didn't have the guts to to anything about it. And even if he did, there would be major problems to face: there was an age difference between them, and not to mention the racial difference. Spike was, he had to face it, a dragon, and no amount of shipping fics online about "pony potions" or spells, or even accidental brushes against blue flowers would change that.
So Spike stopped caring. He did his work, reporting to the Princess about friendship every so often, but other than that he just wandered Ponyville, sometimes even venturing outside of the town. that's were he met him: Lance.
Spike was walking through the Everfree Forest, following a small stream. he found a cosy spot, stopped, picked up a rock, and tossed it. it went surprisingly far. Nice throw, Spike. He said to himself. But can you do it again? Spike picked up another stone, leaned his arm back, and heaved it again. It flew farther this time, clonking against a tree.
"Wow! Nice arm!" A voice said from behind Spike, causing him to scream in surprise. Spike turned around angrily, ready to tell off whoever snuck up on him, when he say another dragon his size.
The other dragon was a baby dragon, it seemed, only his scales were pointier and his skin was red. He wore a big grin on his face. "I didn't think you were going to throw it that far!" The red dragon said, moving towards him.
"Wait!" Spike said, bemused. "Who are you? Where did you come from?"
The other dragon paused, and blinked. "Of course. I'm Lance. I just moved to Ponyville recently."
"Really? Spike asked. "Where? I haven't seen you around town."
Lance leaned up against a tree. "I don't live in town. Most ponies aren't accustomed to seeing a dragon around town."
Spike frowned. "I live in town. I'm a dragon."
Lance chuckled, picking his teeth with his finger. "Yes, but you live with Twilight, in her house."
"Yeah, I guess you're... wait. How do you know that?"
"So, what are you doing all alone out here, Spike?"
Spike was astonished. How did Lance know who he was, and who he lived with? "I... uh, was just... wandering."
"Well, I saw that." Lance rolled his eyes. "I meant, why aren't you taking advantage of your life, like say, asking Rarity out?"
That comment drove Spike off. How did Lance know so much about him? Was he a master spy? Spike began to back away. "Well, I guess I should be getting back now."
"Oh, yeah. Twilight might need you to take a letter."
Spike ignored Lance this time, and began to walk quickly back to Ponyville.
"Why don't you hang out with me for a bit?" Lance called out to him.
"No, thanks." Spike said, waving back at him.
"Well, if you change your mind, just come find me here, in the forest!"
Spike silently noted to never come back to this spot again. He headed back to Ponyville. When he got there, it was late at night, and Twilight was still awake, reading. When Spike came through the door, twilight jumped at him.
"Oh, Spike!" She exclaimed, hugging him. "You're ok! I was getting worried about you! Where were you?"
"In the Everfree Forest." Spike returned the hug. "Don't worry about me."
"It's late, Spike. What were you doing?"
Spike thought back to the stone hurling, and Lance. Spike was too lazy to tell twilight about Lance right now. He was tired. He just wanted sleep. "Nothing, just lost track of time, that's all. You tired? I sure am!"
Spike and twilight headed up the stairs to their beds, nestled down, and fell fast to sleep.
