Long, long ago, there lived three ponies. They were both sisters. One was blue, and she was named Sonata. Another was purple, and she was named Aria. Lastly, the oldest one was yellow. And she was named Adagio. Together, the three sisters lived in harmony. They lived in a village with their mother. They had great friends and a loving family. But not all was well now.
Aria, Sonata, and Adagio stood beside their mother's bed, concern was displayed on their faces. Their mother was in deep sleep. Her eyes were closed, and she was so thin, her bones were visible. She was sick and caught the plague, which had spread throughout all of Equestria. There was no cure for it.
"Will Mother be okay?" Asked Sonata.
"I'm sure she will be fine, she'll heal soon," Adagio replied, but she knew that it was not true. As the oldest sister, it was her responsibility to look after her younger sisters. She couldn't break Sonata's heart by telling her the truth. Adagio knew very well that nopony ever survives the plague. "We should let Mother rest," Adagio said, and with that, the three sisters walked away.
It had been three days since their mother caught the plague. By the third day, she was found dead in her bed. The funeral was held in the morning. Aria had to comfort Sonata while she sobbed, and Adagio was making preparations. She tried not to cry, for she knew she had to be strong for her sisters. She stood by her mother's coffin, trying to control the tears threatening to roll out. But she couldn't help it, and they rolled down like a river. Adagio stood on her knees, crying while nopony watched her.
"Hello there, little one," a voice said, causing Adagio to gasp. An old pony in a cloak suddenly appeared. "You must be heartbroken," the old pony said.
"Who are you?" Adagio asked.
"That is not important," the old pony replied. Her eyes shined a shade of green in the sunlight. "I'm here to offer you a way out."
"What?" Adagio questioned.
"I will make your life rich. You can have anything that you've ever dreamed of. You'll never have to run away," the old pony said. Adagio knew that she and her sisters would have to find a new place to live. Nopony in the village would take them in, nopony could care for three sisters. The villagers have their own problems, and none of them wanted to care for the three sisters.
Adagio was silent, thinking about it. She knew it was wrong to trust a stranger, but she wanted to make Aria and Sonata happy, no matter what the costs are.
"Meet me here at sundown," the old pony vanished into thin air.
The sun was starting to set. The funeral had already ended, and the three ponies were sorting through their mother's belongings. Adagio suddenly remembered the old pony's offer.
"We have to go," Adagio said, pulling her sisters up.
"Why?" Aria asked. There was no answer.
Adagio led her sisters to their mother's grave. The old pony was there, waiting. "I knew you'd come," she said.
"Adagio, what's going on?" Sonata asked.
"She is here to make a deal with me," the old pony answered. "I will give you the power to desire anything you ever wanted."
"Really?" Sonata asked.
"Only if you give me your mortal form," the old pony said. Adagio nodded. She knew i meant giving up her horn, but if getting the power to desire anything she ever wanted, she would sacrifice her horn for it. The old pony grinned, her teeth were sharp like knives. She chanted a spell that Adagio couldn't hear. Green magic began to flow from the old pony towards the three sisters, lifting them in the air. Their pony bodies cracked open, revealing slithery, serpent-like bodies.
Adagio gasped. "What did you do?"
"I gave you the power to desire anything you'd ever wanted. You are sirens, creatures who sing to manipulate others, you feed on the hatred with your voices," the old pony answered, smiling again.
Sonata was on the verge of tears, "I don't want to be a monster!"
As before, the old pony vanished once more. This is all my fault. None of this would've happened if I hadn't made that stupid offer. Now my sisters are suffering because of me, Adagio thought.
The three sirens went to go back to the village. But when the villagers saw them they thought they were monsters, even though the sirens were trying to point out that the real monster was the mysterious old pony.
"Burn them!" A villager clamored. "Burn them!" The rest of the villagers gathered big torches and were aiming them at Adagio and her sisters. Adagio knew she had no choice but to control them. She didn't want to do it, but she knew that she had to. Adagio fed on the hatred from the villagers, and song a song an enchanting song that was charming and beautiful. Her sisters followed along. They all sung until every single villager was under their control, ready to obey them. With more hatred, the sirens grew stronger and stronger. Adagio felt like she could have anything she ever wanted like she could take control of the whole world. Before she could get any further, Adagio stopped herself. She didn' want to hurt them, so she put them to deep sleep.
"We must run before they wake up," Adagio said. She and her sisters escaped into a body of water.
"What will we do now?" Aria asked.
"We have to travel across Equestria, we have to use our magic to control other ponies to make conflicts so we can feed on their hatred," Adagio responded.
"Adagio," Sonata began. "Why did you do this, Adagio?"
New tears were ready to burst out of Adagio's eyes. "I'm sorry," was all she managed to say.
