Chapter 1: The Escape

The Canterlot Hospital for the Mentally Ill. Windy Heart hated that name. Her parents had sent her there when she was younger, after she had drawn a picture of one of her friends. Windy's parents at first visited every day, then every week. One day when they came, they brought somepony else. A baby. Her parents introduced this abolishment as Strong Heart. He was absolutely noisome. After that day, they came once a month. Then on holidays. Then once a year, every other year, and then.... Well, never again. Not together, at least. One of the nurses told her that her mother had died during the birth of a new baby, of which had been named Happy Heart. When her father came at last (for the very last time, infact), he only talked to Strong and Happy.

A feeling of hatred grew up from a place that Windy didn't ever knew she had, and she lashed out. At Happy, the nurses who tried to stop her, Strong, and even her father. She bit and clawed them. She tore out one of their throats, she wasn't sure who's, and danced in the blood. Her family visited her no more. They had kept Windy in her room, for who knows how long, in a straight jacket.

When they finally let Windy out of her room, she wasn't allowed visiting days any more. Not that it would matter, though, as no one wanted to. None of the others talked to her. Windy had a pony guarding her at all times. It was terribly lonely, so Windy struck up some conversation with her nonchalant laconic guard. Turned out her (not so nonchalant or laconic) gaurd's name was Mint Bow. Mint and Windy became friends. They often conversed with each other during lunch, or when Windy was drifting off. Mint told her everything, and Windy in turn told her everything. Their friendship brought Windy unexpected perks, like being able to stay up longer, get extra cake at lunch, and, today, going outside...

Mint walked Windy down the path towards the forest. It had been Mint's favorite place when she was a filly, and she thought that Windy would like it, too.

"Did you hear that?" Windy suddenly said, sounding partly fearful.

"Hear what?" Mint replied.

"Nevermind... It's probably just my head messing with me."

"Should we get you back inside?"

"No, no... I'm fine now..."

Then Windy lost control. She pounced on Mint, as if she was a lion and Mint was the prey. Mint screamed. Windy didn't hear her. She was just hungry. Starving, actually. She ripped open her throat open and feasted on Mint's blood and body. The screaming finally stopped. Then Windy awoke from the madness.

She's sleeping. I oughta get her home, so she'll be warm! Except Windy wasn't quite sure where that was. She had heard that a new princess, Princess Twilight Sparkle of Friendship, lived in Ponyville. Surely Windy would make many new friends with the princess of friendship around! So it was then that Windy decided where she would make her home.

Windy found a nearby cave and settled in for the night. She snuggled up against Mint and fell into almost as deep as a sleep.

The next morning, Windy located a stream and washed off. She then washed Mint, and placed her back in the cave. Stay here Windy told her, I'll come back for you soon. She then set off towards Ponyville.
